* MegatonPunch: Whitebeard lands a punch that uses his Fruit, Armament Haki '''and''' Advanced Conqueror's Haki on an enemy. [[spoiler:It's enough to break the teeth of his target, even though it's Shepherd Ju Peter.]]

* NotMeThisTime: Ivankov is initially blamed for Luffy turning into a girl until they learn he changes genders with water.

* TookALevelInBadass: Besides the Straw Hats growing stronger, Hina's subordinates also become tougher during the Skypiea arc with a note during their fight against the Foxy Pirate that they were all more than twice as strong as before.

* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: Smoker can't beat Luffy when they first meet but his powers are unusual enough that Luffy has to work for his victory if he doesn't want to use haki. However, despite Luffy warning him to, Smoker doesn't pick up any new tricks and uses the same tactics in subsequent encounters, causing Luffy to defeat him with ease each time. Contrast Hina who changes her tactics since not only do her normal ones not work, but Luffy's already seen them and would have counters prepared. Luffy at one point asks if he can have Hina chasing him instead since she keeps things interesting.

** A past user of Robin's fruit was the strongest rokushiki user to ever live, as he could grow countless extra limbs to launch multiple Rokushiki attacks simultaneously.
** Whitebeard naturally.

* NoSell: Sanji negates Blueno's attempts to disable his limbs via turning them into doors with his Devil Fruit by pulsing armament haki through the affected limbs.

* StrongAndSkilled: Luffy is a sorta reincarnation of Ranma Saotome with all his memories and skills on top of knowing Rokushiki and having some skill with Haki. Unlike canon Luffy who is forced to flee from Smoker until after the timeskip, here Luffy only has trouble the first time they fight because he doesn't want to resort to haki. By the end of Alabasta, Luffy takes down a Vice Admiral with only moderate trouble.

* NormalFishInATinyPond: Luffy and Makino end up this way to varying degrees. Both have some level of skill in the main variations of haki along with rokushiki while still sailing in the East Blue. Even though Makino only has enough Haki to coat her hands and only for a few seconds, and is nowhere near as skilled with Rokushiki as Luffy (or any of [=CP9=]), she's still pretty much unstoppable in the East Blue while being a decent fighter in Paradise. Luffy on the other hand is far more skilled with armaments haki (though he has little skill with observation) and Conqueror's Haki on top of using all of the Rokushiki with ease. All of that on top of being a sorta reincarnation of [[Manga/RanmaOneHalf Ranma Saotome]] (and thus knowing all his techniques) puts makes Luffy incredibly dangerous even in Paradise, though he has to actually work for his victories.

** After Buggy kills X Drake, the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus goes to [[spoiler: Usopp who consumes it and gain the power to transform into a dinosaur in battle.]]

* TheScapegoat: Capone Bege and his crew are blamed for the attack on Iceburg and the Straw Hats due to being a pirate crew that wears suits, like the CP9 (the actual culprits), and having been in the area just a couple weeks prior. This upsets Bege when he reads the newspaper about it.

* SimpleYetAwesome: Nico Robin at one point uses her power to load and fire all of the Straw Hat cannons at once, by herself being far more efficient than the rest of the crew combined. She later uses it to spam [[RazorWind Rankyaku]] against Fukuro
* SpannerInTheWorks: The Straw Hats ruin Kuro's plans without ever encountering him because they got into a fight with the Black Cat pirates at sea and captured them.

** [[spoiler:The entirety of the [=CP9=], minus [[ArmchairGeneral Spandam]], are killed while fighting the Straw Hat crew]]. Some are outright killed while others are knocked (or dumped) into the ocean while unconscious and heavily injured.

** When the marines attack Water 7 with a Buster Call, Iceburg threatens to seek out the protection of an Emperor if Sengoku doesn't call them off.

* IOweYouMyLife: Invoked by Donquixote Doflamingo who saves [[spoiler:Blackbeard]] but demands their service in return.

** Despite Shanks didn't lose his arm, Mihawk refuses to duel with him as he see it as a disgrace to swordsmanship and that Shanks now uses his fists. [[spoiler: Because he ate the Gum-Gum Fruit and became a Rubber Man.]]

** Speaking of Buggy, he is this as well compared to his canon self being a BoisterousWeakling.

** [[spoiler:The entirety of the [=CP9=] are killed while fighting the Straw Hat crew]]. Some are outright killed while others are knocked (or dumped) into the ocean while unconscious and heavily injured.

* DemotedToExtra: Usopp is not a crew member in this telling. While he was not AdaptedOut and [[InSpiteOfANail IS still sailing on the Grand Line]], he has much less focus than in the canon material.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: Buggy the Clown is disgusted with Kuro for not only running away from the pirate life like a coward, but also slaughtering his own crew. Buggy even states that Usopp is more of a man than him for willingly facing a pirate with nothing but a slingshot.

* BoobsOfSteel: Inverted. Barring Nico Robin, the women of the Straw Hat crew are less busty the stronger they are. Nami is the second bustiest after Robin but the weakest fighter, Vivi is better and less busty, Makino is smaller and a much better fighter, and lastly Ranko has the smallest bust and is the strongest fighter of the entire crew.

* AdaptationalCurves: When the female Straw Hats decided to sunbathe in their bikinis, it is revealed that Makino has six pack rock hard abs due to the result of undergoing physical training with Luffy and Garp.
