* HurtingHero: When she was a child Asuka's mother got crazy, stopped recognizing her daughter and hang herself together with the doll she thought was her daughter. Her husband never loved Asuka and after his wife's death he got married to his lover and refused taking care of Asuka. Asuka spent the next ten years training to be the best at everything, thinking would nobody give a damn about her otherwise. When she discovered she had incredible powers she got thrilled but soon she found out they were a burden. She had to fight criminals and super-powerful beings besides the giant alien monsters she was trained to beat, she was often hurt and even mind-raped, her family and friends were constantly targeted by crazies and loonies, and everybody looked up to her and expected her being a pinnacle of morality and heroism.

* GunsAreWorthless: Reinforced. It is stated that not even Kryptonite bullets would harm Asuka because they are too fragile to survive the stress of being fired out of a fire weapon.

* TheHero: Asuka. After discovering her powers she decides to use them to help people and earn a bit of extra praise. However she realizes before long her powers entail obligations and responsibilities, helping others actually feels good, and people actually expects a lot of her. She begins trying to live up to everybody's expectations, starting out the path to become a true hero.
* HeroesWantRedheads: Shinji is infatuated with Asuka.

* ComesGreatResponsibility: [[spoiler:After being shown [[{{Film/Superman}} Jor-El's message]] Asuka strives to live up to the ideal of hope that Kal-El could have been.]]

* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Naturally, Asuka has no clue how strong she is once she starts developing her powers. Her first attempt to ''find out'' [[HilarityEnsues ends in fire and destruction]]. And that's ''before'' she gets [[EyeBeams heat vision]].

* HowDoIShotWeb: Asuka's powers start to manifest during the battle with the Sixth Angel. Some HilarityEnsues during the next couple of chapters as Asuka tries to find out her capabilities.

** Asuka, a. k. a. Supergirl, is this to both [[GovernmentConspiracy NE]][[BigBad RV]] and [[OmniscientCouncilOfVagueness SEE]][[TheManBehindTheMan LE]] and their beloved "[[AssimilationPlot scenario]]": a girl with powers beyond their understanding that appeared out of nowhere, has no allegiance to them and is more than capable to single-handily destroy their giant alien adversaries and the HumongousMecha used to fight them. Much HilarityEnsues as they try to reign in a VillainousBreakdown and race to find ''[[KickTheDog some]]'' ''[[MoralEventHorizon way]]'' to put them out of the way ([[RightHandVersusLeftHand without showing their hand to the other group]]).

* PatchworkFic: The Superman aspects of the fic are taken from many different sources, including the comics, the ''{{Franchise/DCAU}}'', and the various live action films.

* TheyDo: In chapter 19 Asuka opened up to Shinji and came clean about her SecretIdentity. At the same time, Shinji confessed he liked her. In reaction, Asuka kissed him.

* MindRape: [[spoiler: Happens like in canon, and [[BreakTheCutie completely smashes Asuka]]. * LeotardOfPower: Asuka's uniform as ComicBook/PowerGirl (little change from the 'canon' design is Asuka having a V-shaped cut which shows her cleavage instead of the classic "[[CleavageWindow boob window]]"). As [[spoiler:Comicbook/{{Supergirl}}]] she uses the Pre-ComicBook/New52 "cheerleader" outfit, with plenty of BareYourMidriff. Needless to say, both can be pretty {{Stripperiffic}} at times (and this is pointed out in the fic and the {{omake}}).

* BareYourMidriff: Asuka's Supergirl costume is based on one of the outfits of Kara Zor-El. When Shinji sees her costume for first time he notices very acutely that her very tight blue shirt "left her toned midriff bare".

* YouWouldntShootMe: When Asuka is threatening [[spoiler:Chiron to tell her where Prof. Hamilton is]], he laughs and says that she, as Supergirl, wouldn't torture him. [[spoiler:Misato, who not only is a steadfast and determined soldier but despises Chiron, [[SubvertedTrope tells him that SHE is more than happy to torture him]] and even playfully asks him not to talk TOO soon.]] [[DirtyCoward He]] [[SmugSnake immediately]] {{Hypocrite cracks}} under these threats.

* ShesGotLegs: When Shinji saw Asuka's ''Comicbook/{{Supergirl}}'' costume for first time he noticed it showed off her gorgeous, muscled, long legs:

* PantyShot: Happens to Asuka in an {{omake}}. Much to the continued good health of [[AccidentalPervert the poor bastard who gets a view while she was saving him from a burning building]], Asuka doesn't kick into ([[MegatonPunch superpowered]]) PervertRevengeMode.

* GirlOnGirlIsHot: Shinji thinks so in chapter five's omake. Due to radiation from a special chunk of kryptonite, Asuka seduces Misato and both women start making out. After seeing what they were doing, Shinji called his friend Kensuke and told him getting over there and for the love of God, bring his camera.

* WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld: Asuka is an excellent mecha fighter and an overpowered super-hero. She can handle herself efficiently when she has to fight criminals, aliens or monsters. However she has absolutely NO social skills and she's massively frightened of other people.

** Being attacked by [[spoiler:Kalibak from the future [[TerminatorTwosome and helped by]] the ComicBook/{{Legion of Super-Heroes}}, given an incentive by [[KidFromTheFuture one of her descendants]] to become a better superheroine (although [[LaserGuidedAmnesia the Legion makes her forget the details]]).]]

The story follows Asuka from her first discovery of her powers, her pitched battles against supervillains, and beyond... as she deals with her growing attraction towards Shinji Ikari.
