Well, it turns out that the White Fang aren't to blame, as Vlad is only using Weiss and Winter to serve a role in his grand scheme. He's not only responsible for giving Weiss her scar, but also made her and Winter fight Grimm, fight each other, and even injected them with what could be the Dust/Aura equivalent of ''steroids''! What seals his fate as this is that his plan for Weiss is for her to be basically a ''human sacrifice'' to awaken Giranarok!]]

* AlternateContinuity: The events of Volume 3 (mainly the vol.'s endgame) of the [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} series proper]] effectively makes the events of ''Grimm Darkness'' impossible to coexist alongside them. ''Grimm Darkness'' will either exist parallel to Volume 3 or take Volume 3 in BroadStrokes and happen before Vol. 3. The author does not like to alter events in the series itself unless they ''absolutely'' conflict with the events of the fanfic, but this happens to be a case where the retcons are seen as necessary.
** That said, however, anything from Volume 3 that harshly goes against events established in ''Grimm Darkness'' and some other things are changed to make the two more compatible with one another. See {{Retcon}} for more details.

Instead of meeting up with Team RWBY at the entrance to Beacon, Winter meets them in a secret location. Qrow does the same, leading to the sparring match. In addition, Winter doesn't meet up with Ironwood since she's considered a traitor to the military. Dialogue between Weiss, Winter, and the others is altered to reflect events from ''Grimm Darkness''. Winter, however, reappears during the endgame in a BigDamnHeroes moment to save Weiss from the Atlesian Paladin, but ends up captured by Ironwood to be tried for her crimes as the Mysterious Girl]].
