* JoustingLance: Unit-05's primary weapon is the [[WeaponOfChoice Lance of Cassius]]. As of Chapter 036, the Lance of Cassius is bigger, longer, and features a pair of built-in guns.

* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: The fic's resident BattleCouple, Asuka and Mari.

The premise is simple, combining the main story-lines of the original series, the [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion recent movie trilogy]], the manga adaptation, and the author's own ideas. (Not) the End pushes back the appearance of the Angels by two years, aging the characters up and making them a little different from canon. Naturally, things get different from there. Where does it start?

* ActionGirl: As with the source material, pretty much every female pilot. Misato also counts as this, due to fending off Iruel with a sub machine gun to buy time.

* BloodierAndGorier: Fight scenes between Evas and Angels usually end with both sides suffering multiple wounds of varying degrees of melting/messiness/burntness, stained with their colourful AlienBlood.
** Most recently, the two best contenders for this are the second Israfel fight, and Sandalphon vs. [[spoiler:Beast Mode Unit-02.]]

* CurbStompBattle: The first fight with Israfel, even more than canon. It ended with Nerv having to drop several N2 Mines before they could rescue the Evas and pilots. [[spoiler:Nerv simply never had the experience to deal with multiple opponents at once, and the fact that everyone froze up after Israfel revealed its abilities to replicate and regenerate certainly didn't help them.]]

* JoustingLance: Unit-05's primary weapon is the [[WeaponOfChoice Lance of Cassius]].
** As of Chapter 036, the Lance of Cassius is bigger, longer, and features a pair of built-in guns.
* LovableAlphaBitch: Asuka's portrayed in a more sympathetic light initially, though she still has her aggressive attitude and AttentionWhore parts present.

* MindRape: [[spoiler:Sandalphon]] essentially does this, [[spoiler:trapping Mari inside her own mind, convincing her that her life is useless, and eventually straight up ''trying to metaphorically choke her (soul) to death''.]] The end of Chapter 030 suggests just how bad the damage is.

** Beast Mode. Once [[spoiler:Mari activates it properly, she mortally wounds Sandalphon in moments,]] in spite the fact that [[spoiler:she was being [[MindRape MindRaped]] for the last ten or so minutes]].
*** [[spoiler:Also a DeliberateInjuryGambit on her part, due to the side effects. Namely, the feedback skyrockets-- meaning Mari can feel ''every'' injury Unit-02 suffers/has suffered-- the Eva's AT Field begins to actually [[HeroicRROD damage her ego barrier]], and pushes her from BloodKnight to AxCrazy.]]

* ActionGirl: As with the source material, pretty much every female pilot.

* BattleCouple: Asuka and Mari-- not just fellow soldiers, but romantically involved as well.

* LongDistanceRelationship: [[spoiler:Asuka and Mari]], up until Chapter 015.

* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: [[spoiler:Mari and Asuka]], when the latter is introduced. Hinted at throughout the early chapters of the story.
* RousingSpeech: By ''Rei'' of all people, just before Operation Yashima.
* ScreamingWarrior: Mari, Shinji, and Asuka [[spoiler:the latter upon temporarily reaching 100% synchronization with Unit-02]].
* SuperMode: Two examples have been shown so far:

* UseYourHead: Shinji [[spoiler:uses Unit-00's reinforced helmet to smash Shamshel's Core.]]

** Technically, the Evangelions count as this themselves, due to [[spoiler:containing the souls of the pilots' mothers. Kyoko/Unit-02 in particular fits this, fighting Sandalphon directly in Chapter 030 to buy time for Mari.]]

** Unit-00's fists can use [[RocketPoweredWeapon elbow rockets]] to enhance their force. Additionally, she has a set of cranial Gatling guns.

* BarrierBustingBlow: Unit-05's lance can punch through AT Fields without even slowing down.

* FelonyMisdemeanor: [[spoiler:Asuka]] punches Kaworu in the face for insinuating that she's frustrated with the fact that [[spoiler:her girlfriend is in another country]], ''and'' [[spoiler:challenges him to Eva vs. Eva simulated combat]].
* HollywoodHealing: Averted. Even twelve chapters later, Mari still has the scarring on her arms from her fight with Sachiel.

* MeatMoss: [[spoiler:Iruel, Terror of God.]]

* SuperMode: [[spoiler:Beast Mode]]. Once [[spoiler:Mari]] activates it properly, she mortally wounds [[spoiler:Sandalphon]] in moments, in spite the fact that [[spoiler:she was being [[MindRape MindRaped]] for the last ten or so minutes]].
** Also a DeliberateInjuryGambit on her part, due to the side effects. ** Unit-02 has AbsurdlySharpClaws on its hands and feet, as well as a set of missiles.

* HeyYouHaymaker: Gloriously abused by Mari and Shinji against Sachiel.

* JoustingLance: Unit-05's primary weapon, used against the Third and Seventh Angels to great effect.

** Unit-01 has an ArmCannon, as seen in [[spoiler:the Berserker Incident flashback]].

* BolivianArmyEnding: Chapter 016 ends with [[spoiler:Asuka stuck in Unit-02, sinking to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.]]

* HollywoodHealin: Averted. Even twelve chapters later, Mari still has the scarring on her arms from her fight with Sachiel.

* ThEReasonYouSuckSpeech: Delivered twice in Chapter 021, first by [[spoiler:Shinji to Gendo]], and then by [[spoiler:Asuka to ''both'' of them.]]

* FetishFuel: Subverted with Mari. WordOfGod says that Mari's going to have significant character development throughout the story ''particularly'' to rectify this from canon.
