** Izuku's father considered to send him to a boarding school for Quirkless children in order to spare him the SuperSupremacist bullying, but his mother got a real bad feeling of the place and shot down the idea. Years later, it was discovered that the BoardingSchool was a cover for a project involving illegal human experimentation that gathered Quirkless kids as guinea pigs.
** Tokiwadai Middle School is a borderline example. While there's nothing wrong about the prestigious [[OneGenderSchool all-girls']] BoardingSchool in itself, and their reputation for producing powerful Quirk users is well-deserved, their alumnae have a suspicious tendency to either become famous heroines, or else marry very young and disappear from the public eye. The implication is that a Tokiwadai diploma basically ''brands'' a girl as prime breeding stock for Quirk Marriages, and that they're sought after for this very reason when they're older. The only reason why this isn't quite a straight example or a DoubleSubversion of the trope is that there's no evidence so far suggesting that Tokiwadai is doing this on purpose.

* CuttingTheKnot: During a training exercise in Hero Fundamentals class based on a game of tag, the rules were 1) a "Gazelle" only get tagged out if a "Lion" (pursuer) touches them anywhere with their hands, and 2) stepping out of bounds disqualifies either party. ** Also a DiscussedTrope. Izuku's Party wondered about several pieces of FridgeLogic involved in this trope, such as "is the money a forgery?" and "if not, where does it come from?" Based on the dates stamped on the cash – often old but valid bills and coins in any odd combination, rather than the most efficient one – they arrived to the hypothesis that Reflective Dungeons brings money that was physically lost or destroyed in the real world back to an usable condition. To verify the authenticity of their Dungeon-obtained money, Inko put a relatively large sum of it in a paper bag and handed it over to the police claiming she found it in the trash. Two weeks later, the police returned it to them (after taking out taxes, of course), which they took as a strong indication that the bills were neither forgeries nor traceable to a real source.
** Grinding for money in a Reflective Dungeon is also very, very profitable. Especially when {{Boss Battle}}s are cleared. For reference, one time on a good Dungeon run, a level-6 party with two combatants made almost ''one and half million yen'' (around 13,400 USD) in just under 4 hours. In fact, [[spoiler:one of the reasons why Inko took the risk of filing for divorce and looking for a job she could actually enjoy doing was because Izuku agreed to support them this way, just in case it took her too long to become financially self-reliant.]]

* NotSoAboveItAll: Izuku takes striving to become an IdealHero very seriously. However, he's not above attending his last days in middle school – despite the teachers allowing him to skip them after passing his high school entrance exams – simply because he wanted to see the expressions on his bullies' faces, after hearing that he was accepted into the prestigious Hero Course at UA. He didn't rub their noses on it, nor said a word to them, but the righteously smug satisfaction was indeed there.

* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Izuku was already very good at thinking on his feet and coming up with clever plans in the source material, but here with the Gamer's Mind stabilizing his emotions during a crisis, he can even crunch the actual numbers of a given situation in order to take the best course of action available. For example, when a [[HelpImStuck trapped Ochako]] was about to be crushed by the [[HumongousMecha Zero-Pointer]] during UA practical entrance exam, Izuku calculated that any speed fast enough for him to get to her in time to push her out of the way, was also enough speed to destroy her trapped leg. That left him with the only option of somehow keeping the Zero-Pointer from stepping on Ochako, but that meant solving another math problem about where to hit the HumongousMecha to make it tumble away from her the most in order to maximize the effect of his limited strength. He pulled it off, albeit barely, and later on the teachers confirmed that his analysis was completely correct if just a meter and half off the optimal striking point. [[spoiler:His correct judgement keep him from getting penalized for attacking an obstacle he was supposed to avoid, and securing his place in Class 1-A.]]

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Midoriya meets Tsuyu Asui 10 months before the UA entrance exam because he picked the same place as her to train. ** Tokiwadai Middle School is a borderline example. While there's nothing wrong about the prestigious [[OneGenderSchool all-girls]] BoardingSchool in itself and their reputation for producing powerful Quirk users is well deserved, their alumni have a suspicious tendency to either become famous heroines, or marry very young and disappear from the public eye. The implication is that a Tokiwadai diploma basically ''brands'' a girl as prime breeding stock for Quirk Marriages and that they're sought after for this very reason when they're older. This only reason why this isn't quite a straight example or a DoubleSubversion of the trope is that there's no evidence so far suggesting that Tokiwadai is doing this on purpose.

Her mother got a real bad feeling about the place and refused to enroll him there, but couldn't provide a better argument than she didn't believe a school filled with bullied kids would lack some of them who would take it out on the rest and complete the ViciousCycle -- a decision that made their already strained marriage worse. The FramingDevice set in the far future says that Inko not only had it right about the kids, but also the entire place was in fact a BoardingSchoolOfHorrors and actually a cover for an illegal human experimentation project that used Quirkless kids as guinea pigs.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: "Efficient Sleeper" is a Talent that allows a person to get as much rest in 5 hours as they would get from a 8-hour night of sleep. The kids continue to use it to train physically, and they all load it up with furniture and other amenities. Izuku even calls it "[[ShoutOut The]] [[PunnyName Pencil]] [[Franchise/{{Superman}} of Solitude]]". It has the added advantage that he can carry it around, and when he enters, anyone currently in his party is pulled in as well.
* InstantExpert: The Gamer can turn Izuku into this if he's willing to burn through his increasingly valuable Skill Points to do it. One time he panicked when an irate girl (Cassandra) ranted at him via [[UsefulNotes/SignedLanguage sign language]] and he immediately dumped points on his ASL and JSL Skills in order to converse with her and hopefully calm her down... only to find out seconds later that she can hear him just fine. Not really wasted points in his opinion given that they both ended up as classmates.
* IntimateHealing: A PG example. The TraumaInn effect that completely heals Izuku's wounds and replenishes his stamina overnight can propagate to a Party Member if they sleep in close proximity to him. How close they have to be to trigger the effect is yet to be established. Sleeping under the same roof is shown to insufficient given that Inko never noticed anything despite being a party member for months. However accidentally spooning with Tsuyu ([[BedmateReveal long story]]) is confirmed to do the trick.

** Also a DiscussedTrope. Izuku's Party wondered about several pieces of FridgeLogic involved in this trope, such as "is the money a forgery?" and "if not, where does it come from?" Based on the dates stamped on the cash --often old but valid bills and coins in any odd combination rather than the most efficient one -- they arrived to the hypothesis that Reflective Dungeons brings money that was physically lost or destroyed in the real world back to an usable condition. To verify the authenticity of their Dungeon-obtained money, Inko put a relatively large sum of it in a paper bag and handed it over to the police by saying she found it in the trash.
For reference, one time on a good Dungeon run, a level 6 party with two combatants made almost ''one and half million yen'' (around 13,400 USD) in just under 4 hours. In fact, [[spoiler:one of the reasons why Inko took the risk of filing for divorce and looking for a job she could actually enjoy doing was because Izuku agreed to support them this way just in case it took her too long to become financially self-reliant.]]
* MultinationalTeam: Class 1-A unlike canon, now listing Cassandra Cain (half-American, half-Chinese) and Modura Penryu (British descent) in its roster.
* MutuallyExclusiveMagic: Ki and Psionics are this. Using them together provides an amazing boost of power, but dangerous feedback. As in damage every step he takes feedback.
* NameOrderConfusion: The Gamer shows people's names with the given name first, whereas Japan uses the family name first convention. This causes some minor problems for Izuku who got used to the former after little less than a year reading from The Gamer's user interface.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Izuku takes striving to become IdealHero very seriously. However, he's not above attending his last days in middle school -- despite the teachers allowing him to skip them after passing his high school entrance exams -- simply because he wanted to see the expression on his bullies' faces after hearing that he was accepted into the prestigious Hero Course at UA. He didn't rub their noses on it, not he said a word to them, but the righteously smug satisfaction was indeed there.
* PocketDimension: Just like in the manhwa, The Gamer allows Izuku to create Instant Dungeons with enemies to grind, but not quite in the same way. Unlike the originals that are anchored to a location, Izuku's "Reflective Dungeons" are created from an object in a way similar to the Item Worlds in ''Franchise/{{Disgaea}}''. He also uses the first Reflective Dungeon he and his party cleared -- based on a high-end mechanical pencil he got for his 15th birthday that he always carries with him -- as a portable HomeBase that they later furnished with a table, chairs, a bookshelf, and other odds and ends. They call it "[[ShoutOut The]] [[PunnyName Pencil]] [[Franchise/{{Superman}} of Solitude]]".
* PointBuildSystem: The Gamer quantifies Izuku's growing as Attributes. They are Strength, Endurance, Agility, and Quickness for physical characteristics, and Wit, Intuition, Charisma, Determination, and Luck for non-physical ones. Izuku's user interface (and the narration) usually uses the first letter of each as a shorthand. Upon each Level Up, Izuku gets seven Attributes Points he can freely spend on them to increase their values, but other than {{Luck|Stat}}, they can be improved by performing activities related to them as with normal training. Sometimes The Gamer rewards Izuku with small but permanent Stat increases for doing something particularly remarkable related to it. For example, increasing his Intuition for making remarkably good deductions, or his Wit for doing something particularly sneaky.

They call He calls it "[[ShoutOut The]] [[PunnyName Pencil]] [[Franchise/{{Superman}} of Solitude]]".
* PointBuildSystem: The Gamer quantifies Izuku's growing growth as Attributes.

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: In chapter 9, Izuku, Inko, and Tsuyu test the Dungeon in one of his training weights. The first mook they see is level 21. Izuku was level 6 and Tsuyu level 7. Inko was level 17, but also basically a non-combatant. The description when Izuku scans it is even 'Way above your weight class'. They leave immediately.

* SuperBreedingProgram: Quirk Marriages, as in canon. There are some unsavory rumors about it involving Tokiwadai Middle School given how their best graduates either become famous heroines, or end up marrying suspiciously young and disappear from the public eye.
* SuperpowerLottery: Izuku's power as The Gamer. This includes the ability to see himself as an RPG character and control his stat growth, heal almost anything with a good night's sleep, resist most mental attacks, store a limited number of items in an extra dimensional space, and invite people into his party, giving them a limited version of the first power and the ability to make sure other party members are in good shape. And that is before he starts getting quests to improve those powers or unlock new gamer like abilities (like one resembling Item World from the ''Franchise/{{Disgaea}}'' series), or using the first power gain Telekinesis and Ki powers. The main thing keeping him from being overpowered is that he was so far behind his universe's power curve to begin with.

* WrongContextMagic: The Gamer is not a Quirk and doesn't have to follow their rules at all. This is a bad thing for Izuku because there's no way to predict how the government would react to something like that, or what the Villains would do to get their hands on it if they find out. After a few months debating with Inko and Tsuyu how to best hide it, they decided on pass it off as a MindOverMatter Quirk called "Tactile TK" (which is actually the name of one of his Skills) because it won't be suspicious because it's similar to his mother's Quirk, and telekinesis is well known to be a very versatile power that comes in many variations, thus helping him to explain away his other Skills like KiManipulation as an application of it.

* AdaptationalWimp: Izuku's version of The Gamer is a lot less broken that in the source material, and ''especially'' so compared to other crossovers following the FandomSpecificPlot of giving The Gamer to a character of another series. * AugmentedReality: How The Gamer manifest itself. Izuku can also toggle the user interface into a HeadsUpDisplay mode, but he finds seeing his HP bar at the corner of his vision at all times to be kinda morbid.

* BadDreams: Izuku has a nightmare about flunking UA entrance exam losing The Gamer. The [[TrollingCreator author]] pointedly didn't format the NightmareSequence as a such, so both Izuku and the reader are led to believe he failed until his CatapultNightmare moment.
* BagOfHolding: Izuku's version of The Gamer also comes with an "Inventory" screen where he can store things in {{Hammerspace}}, but his is an InventoryManagementPuzzle. On the bright side, his Inventory space can get upgraded, items forming a whole like his notebooks share grid space, and food stored in there won't spoil because it doesn't technically exist in real space for that to happen. At his mother's insistence, Izuku always carries a fully stocked first aid kit in there.

* BoringButPractical:
** Izuku's one innate Talent is called "Studious", which simply improves the rate his Wit and Intuition attributes increase and hastens a bit the development of Skills related to those two Stats. While not impressive on its own, the overall effect in the long run is more significant and allows him spend his Attribute and Skill Points on something else.
** Later on he buys the "Free Runner" Talent, which is basically the same thing as "Studious" but for Agility and Quickness. This one does have a more direct effect in helping him build up speed and reflexes for the UA entrance exam.
* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: Sometimes "Mandatory Quest" alerts pop up that {{Railroad|ing}}s Izuku into a course of action related to his dreams to become a hero. * ChickMagnet: {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d by Hagakure the Invisible Girl, who made a joke after seeing Izuku surrounded by half of the 1-A girls before even starting their first day at UA. This was actually just a coincidence. To wit: he and Tsuyu were already friends before the entrance exam. Ami graduated from the same middle school as Midoriya but they never had a class together, so she decided to stop by and say hello when she entered the classroom. Cassandra is mute and knew that he could understand sign language, so she tried to strike a conversation but was interrupted. By Mikoto, who was surprised to see him in class because he told her before that attacking the zero-pointer at the entrance exam probably cost him his admittance into UA, and she demanded an explanation for making her worry. Finally and just like in canon, Ochako naturally wanted to thank him for saving her in that very same incident and tell him how happy she was that he made it to the Hero Course.
* ChunkySalsaRule: In the non-canon omake where Izuku kills Shigaraki in retaliation for Tsuyu's death in the USJ Incident, he made sure of turning his head (and most of his torso) into fine mist.

* FirstEpisodeSpoiler: Izuku gets The Gamer and he doesn't meet Toshinori. [[ForWantOfANail As a result of both changes]], Bakugou isn't rescued in time and dies in the Sludge Villain Incident.

* GenderEqualEnsemble: Class 1-A now consists in 10 girls and 10 boys, unlike canon where boys outnumber the girls more than twice over.

* GutFeeling: When Izuku begun to [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer suffer serious discrimination at school for being Quirkless]], his father proposed to send him to a BoardingSchool that exclusively catered to kids like him.
It may not sound like much compared to stuff like KiManipulation and MindOverMatter powers, but for Tsuyu who has school, training, and her younger siblings to worry about, three extra hours a day just for herself without any drawbacks is truly a ''godsend''.

* InventoryManagementPuzzle: The Gamer's Inventory works like this, meaning that Izuku has to be mindful of the arrangement, and storage limitation forces him to plan ahead. Despite these issues, having a {{Hammerspace}} at his disposal is very much worth the hassle.

* LemonyNarrator: {{Downplayed}}. The FlavorText in The Gamer's user interface seems to be built as one, sometimes playfully snarking at Izuku's expense but never like an InteractiveNarrator would. For example, popping a congratulatory notification saying his WIT stat went up for doing something particularly sneaky.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: {{Defied|Trope}} by Izuku, who comes clean to his mother about The Gamer as soon as he's sure he isn't just imagining stuff. They both agree to keep it a secret and set about thinking up a way to fake his power as a Quirk.
* LonelyFuneral: PlayedWith. While plenty adults attended to Katsuki's funeral, only two kids his age showed up despite the fact Aldera Junior Hight officially suspended classes so the students could go to the service. Those two were of course Izuku, and a girl that was later revealed to be Ami Mizuno. It's currently unknown why the latter did it, given that she and Bakugou apparently never became acquaintances.
* LuckStat: The Gamer quantifies Izuku's luck (or rather, his [[BornUnlucky lack of it]]) as a number. He isn't quite sure what effect, if any, does his LuckStat has in his life or what the number actually means, but given that no normal activity seems to have any effect on it unlike with other Attributes, he decided to [[StatGrinding spend one Attribute Point on Luck per each Level Up]] just in case.

* MoneySpider: Izuku and company are surprised when the first dungeon they enter, the first monster (a kobold) drops Yen bills. Played with, in that non-humanoid enemies like wolves drop money, but noticeably less.

* MoneySpider: Izuku and company are surprised when MoneySpider:
** Reflective Dungeons follow
the first dungeon they enter, the first monster (a kobold) drops Yen bills. game convention that enemies drop money upon defeat. Played with, in that non-humanoid enemies like wolves drop money, but noticeably less.less.

For example,
* PsychicSurgery: In chapter 7, Izuku used his [[MindOverMatter TK]] to carefully remove shrapnel from Tsuyu's injuries while minimizing additional damage. Then he customized her Stats and Skills to pull her HP from the negative numbers, which caused her body to return back to health in a matter of moments, which was a particularly disturbing sight for him.
* RescueRomance: There was a fair amount of ShipTease between them once they became training buddies, but Izuku saving Tsuyu's life pushed them to actually consider a RelationshipUpgrade. Heck, the rescue very nearly ended up in GladToBeAliveSex, but The Gamer's Mind helped Izuku to keep his wits about him and realize that [[QuestionableConsent Tsuyu wasn't in the right mind to make that decision]].
* RestingRecovery: One of the benefits of The Gamer is that it turns the game convention that sleeping can completely heal a person overnight into a reality. The effect can be extended to Party Members, TraumaInn style, under the right circumstances.

* ShoutOut:

to:

* ShoutOut:SecretTestOfCharacter:
** The Quirk Assessment Test from the first day at UA as, but differently from canon where the expulsion thing was a MotivationalLie to make them try harder. [[spoiler:Midoriya noticed that their home teacher's whole behavior resembled too much that of a Villain: he used coercion and blackmail to force to compete against each other for survival by threatening to expel the lowest scoring student. Aizawa also dropped an anti-government rant that it was completely at odds with his position, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and there was no rational way to convert the test results into an overall ranking]]. Midoriya passed his observations to others who quickly agreed with him and ganged up on the teacher, managing to safely capture him. Aizawa demanded an explanation, and when they provided it, he (''very'' begrudgingly) congratulated them for being the first class to figure out the secret test in the six years he's been doing it.]]
** PlayedWith for a bit in the above example because the "assessment" part was real and class 1-A still had to complete the tests so their performance data could be recorded in order to measure their improvements later on.
* SenselessSacrifice: In the non-canon omake where Izuku and Shigaraki end up in a MutualKill, the narration makes it painfully obvious that retribution for Tsuyu's death is the only thing that came out of it. Shigaraki was completely redundant to All For One after All Might's death, and without him or Izuku around, his plans are likely to come intro fruition unopposed.
* SensoryOverload: One half of Cassandra's hybrid Quirk gives her CombatClairvoyance, but it's very sensitive to her own voice, creating some sort of overwhelming feedback effect that gives her a migraine if she tries to force herself to produce a vocal sound. This suggests that she wasn't born mute, but rather had to ''unlearn'' to speak since the moment her Quirk manifested.
* ShipSinking: Izuku's parents. Their marriage has been one existing only on paper for a while, but Inko finally files for divorce in chapter 12.
* ShoutOut: Plenty.

Added DiffLines:

** Izuku calls the [[PocketDimension Reflective Dungeon]] that he carries around in his mechanical pencil as a portable HomeBase "[[PunnyName The Pencil]] [[Franchise/{{Superman}} of Solitude]]".
** In order to save Tsuyu's life, Izuku needed to make her part of his Party, but that requires her to accept the invitation by pushing a button in The Gamer's AugmentedReality-like interface, something she couldn't do because she was unconscious at the time. Izuku silently thanked Reki Kawahara for giving him the idea of gently lifting her finger to the "Accept" button, a trick the {{light novel|s}} author had villainous characters do in ''LightNovel/SwordArtOnline''.

Added DiffLines:

* SkillScoresAndPerks: The Gamer quantifies Izuku's learning potential like this. Upon Level Up, he gets three Skill Points that he can use to make himself instantly more proficient at any of his Skills. Talent Points are scarcer and even more valuable, as they allow him to give himself a trait that people normally had to be born with in order to be able to manifest, as he did for {{Ki|Manipulation}} and {{Psychokinesis}}.
* TheSpeechless: Cassandra is mute as a side effect of her Quirk. She's fluent with [[UsefulNotes/SignedLanguage ASL/JSL]], but only Midoriya (thanks to The Gamer) and Shoji can understand her in Class 1-A , so the former tends to act as her mouthpiece when he's around. For other times, she carries a pad and a pen.

Added DiffLines:

* SuperBreedingProgram: Quirk Marriages, as in canon. There are some unsavory rumors about it involving Tokiwadai Middle School given how their best graduates either become famous heroines, or end up marrying suspiciously young and disappear from the public eye.

Added DiffLines:

* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Whenever the words "Mandatory Quest Alert" appear.

Added DiffLines:

* WhatIf: Some chapters are ended with non-canonical omakes showing what could have happened if events would have taken a different course. For example, if Izuku hadn't make it to the Hero Course, he would've lost The Gamer, keep his KiManipulation and MindOverMatter skills, and make it into UA's General Course with the hope of one day moving into the Hero Course by his own merits. However, his absence from Class 1-A would have turned the USJ Incident into a ''disaster'' resulting in the death of several Pro Heroes, including All Might and Eraserhead, and at least five students -- Tsuyu among them. Then Izuku would have JumpedOffTheSlipperySlope, and after three months of insane training sharping his skills with the single-minded purpose of exacting bloody vengeance for her death, he would have found Shigaraki and ''vaporized'' his head and torso without a care for his own lethal wounds claiming his life soon afterwards.
