The Imperium has shrunk to a fraction of its former size, and humanity and the Aeldari are just barely hanging on amidst assault from every threat on every side.

* HeelRealization: Between the future visions, his honest discussion with the Primarchs, and some prodding from Malcador, the Emperor slowly begins to realize what a terrible father (and frankly, terrible person) he's been, though the real kicker comes when [[spoiler: the portion of his soul containing his compassions forces its way back into him]] prompting him to have a furious FreakOut as he rants about his terrible decisions.

Roboute Guilliman and Yvraine do everything they can to help their son Aegidius despite having to juggle the complex realities of running Imperium Secundus.

Rogal and Signy Dorn supported their son, Friedrich, and did everything in their power to ensure that he would able to live despite facing a congenital disease that left him disabled when he was a toddler. Signy also provides wise counsel to Friedrich and still pampers him even after he became a Space Marine while Rogal encourages and mentors him as a Space Marine.

Vulkan and Kai are loving parents who did everything they could to help their last son, Janan, who was born with severe handicaps due to mutations, giving him a chance to live before letting him [[spoiler: entomb himself in a custom dreadnought that he built.]]

** In canon, it's revealed that a Perpetual named Erda was essentially the Primarch's mother; since this story was planned before that reveal, she isn't. [[spoiler: Alivia is]]. This still get's referenced when Malcador learns about [[spoiler: Alivia]] and comments that "Erda will be dissapointed." The Emperor admits he could care less what she has to say, echoing the authors' stated feelings on the matter.

* RelatedInTheAdaptation: In canon, [[spoiler: Alivia was just one of the Emperor's peretual allies who remained loyal]]. In this story, [[spoiler: she's the Emperor's wife... and the Primarchs' mother]].

* EldritchAbomination: Kain and Abel, the sons of Lorgar, failed Heirs to Chaos. Now respectively a drug addicted immortal traumatised mess and an evil, sentient, soul devouring sword.

** Likewise, the Emperors dialogue, in both reaction and non-reaction segments, was previously depicted in ALL CAPS, representing his charismatic psychic aura. This eventually dropped, and it's in-universe a part of the Emperor's CharacterDevelopment, as he becomes more humble and more open with his sons.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: As it turns out, the Emperor and all eighteen Primarchs going radio-silent for weeks on end (''with'' their Astartes legions) nearly threw the Great Crusade into chaos, with Malcador single-handedly holding it together in their absence. After that realization, the vid-viewings are limited to a few Primarchs (and sometimes the Emperor) at a time, reporting on the events depicted to the rest of the family who keep up the momentum of the Crusade.

In short, they've inherited the super-human abilities of their fathers, but don't seem to be nearly as powerful as them. They're still well above Baseline humans, and many Astartes as well.

** Ragio: Abandoned by his parents as a child, albeit unwillingly, consumed by rage and his endless quest to murder his father for his wrong doings. Once a doctor, he has thrown away everything to pursue revenge and is hinted at suffering from Khornate corruption.

* TheAlliance: Imperium Secundus and a large number of Aeldari Craftworlds have formed one to better survive the horrors of the current galaxy, solidified by the marriage between Roboute and Yvraine. Even then, it's an extremely tense relationship, with many Eldar staying less out of loyalty, and more because they've come to believe the half-Eldar Aegidius is their species' last hope for survival.
