* TheStationsOfTheCanon: Subverted. While the key Stations are much the same as canon, many of the details are considerably different.

* AlternateUniverse: The author has [[http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/265995/whats-canon-in-mplt a blog post]] officially laying out which canon episodes are and aren't canon, or were changed from canon. The following had changes -
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E25ACanterlotWeddingPart1 A Canterlot Wedding]]" has no changeling attack, though [[http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/265995/whats-canon-in-mplt#comment/1652193 author's mum on why.]]
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E1TheCrystalEmpirePart1 The Crystal Empire]]" saw Yuuno and Luna's involvement.
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E3TooManyPinkiePies Too Many Pinkie Pies]]" - mostly unchanged, no word on the details.
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E5MagicDuel Magic Duel]]" - non-canon for obvious reasons, but the Alicorn Amulet still is out there.
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E10SpikeAtYourService Spike At Your Service]]" - non-canon [[WriterOnBoard due to author's distaste]].
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E13MagicalMysteryCure Magical Mystery Cure]]" never happened during the TimeSkip between ''A's'' and ''[=StrikerS=]'' due to being incompatible with the fic's cosmology on alicorns.
** "[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls Equestria Girls]]" - Heavy changes, including no high school. Author's exact words are that "Sunset Shimmer is still around. She just didn't jump through a magic mirror into the human world..."
** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E1PrincessTwilightSparklePart1 Princess Twilight Sparkle]]" - Heavy changes, though the Mane Six still had to give up the Elements of Harmony.
** "[[Recap/{{MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E3CastleMane-ia}}]]" - Mostly unchanged, no word on details.

* TheStationsOfTheCanon: Averted. While the basic story is much the same as canon, many of the details are considerably different.

** In the past, [[spoiler: Luna named the Tome of the Night Sky's Master Program [[MeaningfulName Nyx]].]] It remains to be seen if the name will be kept or not.
*** It wasn't. [[spoiler: It was revealed that when Nyx tried to stop Princess Luna from becoming Nightmare Moon, in addition to violently changing her programming, Luna also took away her name. So when Trixie became Mistress of the Book, she gave Nyx the same name as in canon, Reinforce. But this is ultimately a DoubleSubversion, because even though her name is still Reinforce, her full title is not the Blessed Wind, but the Brightest Light in the Darkest Hour.]]

** "[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls Equestria Girls]]" - Heavy changes, including no high school or Sunset Shimmer.
*** Actually, the author's exact words are "Sunset Shimmer is still around. She just didn't jump through a magic mirror into the human world..."

* LeeroyJenkins: Scootaloo in ''[=StrikerS=]''.

* FantasticRacism: Not all Humans think highly of Ponies, being an established non-Human civilization with their own goals and agendas makes some people nervous. [[spoiler: This may include Teana, although hers is suggested to be because ItsPersonal]].

* TookALevelInBadass: The other two characters taking the Class B test alongside Subaru and Teana? ''Scootaloo and Spike''. The former mentions having taken Guard training.

* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: The inevitable result of [[FriendToAllLivingThings Flutter]][[BewareTheNiceOnes shy]] versus [[BigBadassWolf Arf]].

** The fire at Coastal Airport 8 still happens, and it's still Raising Heart's wielder, who is aiming to become a Bureau Instructor, who saves Subaru. Though how it being Twilight rather than Nanoha changes things remains to be seen...

** "[[VideoGame/{{Castlevania}} But enough talk… have at you!]]"

** [[spoiler: As the PensieveFlashback in Chapter 11a of A's shows, this was also [[MamaBear Luna's]] reaction to what [[CompleteMonster King]] [[DrunkOnTheDarkSide Sombra]] did to Princess Aria.]]

* HeManWomanHater: In ''[=StrikerS=]'' we learn that the Equestrian Royal Guard has accumulated a rather severe case of patriarchal privilege that is resisting cleansing from no less than the Princesses themselves, no thanks to a cultural mythos of heroic male figures. The ones stupid enough to voice it openly were quickly dealt with, but more subtle dissent persists. It's suggested to be part of Scootaloo's newfound issues.

* NoodleIncident: PlayedForDrama with Scootaloo. We have been given a few hints about the reason she TookALevelInJerkass, but other then knowing about a pony named Hotshot being involved and that Rainbow Dash [[MyGreatestFailure thinks she totally failed her]], we haven't been given a whole lot of details.

** "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E21DragonQuest Dragon Quest]]" apparently never happened either, because Spike gets angry when Friedrich dismisses him as not a "real" dragon.

* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Also InUniverse. When they first meet, Caro is surprised to learn that Spike's a dragon considering her native dragons are quite different from him.

* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Spike and Scootaloo in ''StrikerS'' are only just barely capable of this, due to Scootaloo being a IneffectualLoner and LeeroyJenkins.

* WhatTheHellHero: Princess Celestia gave a thoroughly justified one 1,000 years ago, when [[spoiler: a member of the DeadlyDecadentCourt proposed a day of celebration in response to Nightmare Moon being sealed in the moon on top of the MaliciousSlander that served as her StartOfDarkness. Cue them losing everything that set them apart from common ponies.]]

* WhatTheHellHero:
Princess Celestia gave a thoroughly justified one 1,000 years ago, when [[spoiler: a member of the DeadlyDecadentCourt proposed a day of celebration in response to Nightmare Moon being sealed in the moon on top of the MaliciousSlander that served as her StartOfDarkness. Cue them losing everything that set them apart from common ponies.]]

* NotSoAboveItAll: One of the signs of CharacterDevelopment from Chrono in As and StrikerS is the fact that he is willing to make jokes from time to time.

* UnskilledButStrong: Celestia is the diarch with more raw power, but less finesse in combat. Particularly visible in the [[spoiler: flashback to the Celestia vs Nightmare Moon fight]] where Celestia was nearly tapped out using her power statically, whereas her foe had hardly broken a sweat despite staying mobile and using various multi-front attacks.
** No longer applies in the present. She's still less skilled, thanks to the inherently unsubtle nature of her power, but she can [[spoiler: stand toe-to-toe with Nachtwal in their fight on the moon.]]
