* AlternateTechline: The technology levels of the Wizarding World and Equestria are contrasted in the story. The Statute of Secrecy has caused innovation in Wizarding magic to stagnate due to lack of interaction with Muggles, with wizards often continuing to use unconventional magical solutions as long as they work without trying to improve them. Meanwhile, Equestria's understanding of magic and worldwide acceptance of its principles has led to ponies viewing magic as another kind of science to study and improve upon. This is best seen with both societies' approaches to instantly transporting people across large distances: Wizarding Apparition has a strict age limit for even attempting to learn the technique due to it frequently causing TeleportationSickness and [[TeleFrag Splinching]] being a consequence of not giving it one's full attention, while the Equestrian teleportation spell is well-researched and has safeguards in place to prevent serious harm befalling the user, allowing even untrained magic users to use it given proper instructions and tools.

** In chapter 67, Dumbledore appears to be headed down this path.
--> (Dumbledore) sighed tiredly. “I did put up spells to monitor the boy’s physical and mental health, as Minerva can tell you, but, unfortunately, I made a mistake and the spells failed to work as I had intended. Minerva has always said I should have personally checked on his welfare, but I trusted my spells to keep me apprised. That was a mistake — one I deeply regret. The spells I had so carefully built to protect him actually prevented me from noticing the things that would have warned me to take a closer look.”

** Dolores Umbridge, in the first book, tries to manipulate Minister Fudge into taking Ambassador Blueblood hostage (believing that he's as smart as a wizarding world unicorn), liquidate the Equestrians' dealings with the UK government, and take all of Equestria's funds for the ministry. This plan fails spectacularly thanks to anti-magic charms installed throughout Major's office, leaving Fudge-for-brains and Dumbridge trapped and helpless, with only Dumbledore's interference preventing them from being imprisoned. In the second book, Umbridge (due to the efforts of Sirius and Anne [[spoiler: Starlight Glimmer in disguise]]), is finally exposed for her manipulation, deception, and bribery, losing her job, power, and prestige while gaining a prison sentence.

* AdaptationalExplanation: In the original book and movie, it's never explained why Dumbledore didn't sign his name when he gave Harry his father's invisibility cloak for Christmas (although he does later take credit for it). Here, considering how Harry's only ''just'' started to forgive/respect his Headmaster (and Dumbles only just realized this), it makes sense why he wouldn't want to sign his name on the gift.
* AdaptationalIntelligence: Blueblood in canon is a crass PrinceCharmless. In this story, despite his snooty nature, is still a shrewd and tactical diplomat.

** Lucius Malfoy is one of Voldemort's most dedicated supporters...and yet the fact that the Dark Lord put a basilisk under the skill and ordered it to kill children seems to startle him. [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes After all, his son attends the school]].
** Everyone in the Wizengamot (even the people who hate the Black family) are ''horrified'' at the fact that an innocent man was locked up for ten years without a trial, which leads to Sirius finally being cleared of the charges against him and leaving Azkaban forever.

** Like in canon, Mr. and Mrs. Weasely are excellent parents for their many children, and are willing to host five more (Harry, Hermione, and the CMC) during the day over the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Granger also apply, as they (despite knowing very little about the wizarding world or what their daughter is capable of) support Hermione fully and encourage her love of learning. They also handle most of the wizarding/pony shenanigans surprisingly well.
** Twilight, from the moment she becomes Harry's caretaker, is an excellent parent and teacher. She looks out for all of his needs, does her best to help him adjust to Equestria and make friends, and is able to help him recover from the abuse he suffered at the hands of the Dursleys. Even after he begins school at Hogwarts, she is always there for him and is making sure he's safe (to the point that she ripped Dumbledore a new one for not acting reasonably about the Philosopher's Stone or the Basilisk in the basement).
