* DramaticIrony: Angie believes that Leon would never kill a harmless girl like her just for sneaking up on him. In canon, Leon killed Sayaka for sneaking up on him and trying to kill him, even though she was injuries and harmless to him by that point.

* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Before the trial in Chapter 3 begins, Monokuma explains his "first come, first serve" basis, saying that if there are multiple killers, then only the one who successfully killed their victim first will become the Blackened. However, once it is revealed that [[spoiler:Sakura was the one who killed Hajime and Kokichi, before she was killed herself]], he immediately declares that if the first Blackened is killed then [[YouKillItYouBoughtIt whoever kills them will become the new Blackened]]. When everyone calls him out on it, he says he is allowed to do so since one of the rules his he can add any rule he wants.

* ItsAllMyFault: After being outed as the Blackened for Chapter 3, [[spoiler:Aoi feels this way for the three deaths, because [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom bringing back Sakura led to the latter killing Kokichi and Hajime]], and leading to Aoi killing her best friend]].

* SparedByTheAdaptation: Leon and Peko are among the survivors in the third chapter when in their canon games they died in the first chapter and the second chapter respectively.

* TwoScenesOneConversation: Monokuma leaves a Flashback Light in everyone's room as the first motive. When everyone sees the Flashback Light the scene continuously swaps between the POV of the various characters as they observe the device and read the note left by Monokuma.

* BullyingADragon: Although everyone knows that Peko is [[spoiler:capable of murder]], that doesn't stop some of them from antagonizing her. Special mention goes to Miu and Hifumi for trying to start confrontations with her. Miu also takes it a step further by insulting Gonta for being willing to associate with Peko, despite Gonta being the strongest boy in the academy and could easily strangle her if he weren't a gentleman.
