Kiyome had no other choice due to them living in poverty, as Kiyome has difficulty finding work as a single mother of a young child. Kiyome's parents disowned her, and her in-laws seemed to despise her, so she has no help from her family. Hawks was railroaded into becoming a pro-hero with his mother frequently clashing with the Heroics Commission in his defense. While initially Sora is trained gently, Kiyome would intervene if the Commission would push Sora too hard. She wasn't always successful. Hawks recounts a handler beating him in front of his mother to show that she's ultimately powerless and the Commission makes the decisions.

* AMistakeIsBorn: Sora is stated to be an accident baby.

** Midoriya Izumi and Reo were deeply remorseful that their meddling drove their son and daughter-in-law to cut ties from them. Once they got the news that Hawks was their grandson, they rushed to Mustafu to apologize to Kiyome in person and welcome her and Sora into the family.

** Rumi is pretty angry that Sora didn't tell her about Izuku's Quirk considering that he told her about Izuku's supervillain father. To be fair to Sora, he didn't know when would be the right time while Izuku's supervillain father is a security concern.

** Takashiro Kiyome, Hawks' mother, is one to Todoroki Rei. They are both parents with powerful children and their agency was stripped from them by forces out of their control. They are separated from their families: Rei to being sold by her family to marry Endeavor, and Kiyome because her family and in-laws disapproved of her marrying. Which prevents them from raising their children how they like, they constantly have to run interference to how their children were trained, and are both abused as a result. But Rei's [[SanitySlippage sanity was sapped]] by [[MaritalRapeLicense being forced to bear]] and protect four children by her [[DomesticAbuse abusive husband]], while Kiyome had only one child out of a [[MarryForLove loving marriage]]. [[spoiler: Combined with Kiyome's former training as a vigilante,]] Kiyome was better able to stand her ground.

** The Takashiro parents [[spoiler: are vile Stage Parents who tried to force their daughter to become a pro hero, then let the Commission enslave her and their grandson when she refused. This makes All for One's upcoming visit very satisfying.]]

** Hawks' Quirk Fierce Wings got his abilities from his mother, Kiyome Takashiro's flight and hardening feathers and his father Kei Midoriya's minor gravitational Quirk.

** A minor one, in that while Aizawa thinks that Bakugou's performance at the end of the Sports Festival (specifically, the tantrum he threw about him not deserving the first place medal) wasn't great, Aizawa wants to know who the ''hell'' thought that ''chains and a muzzle'' were appropriate in that situation.

* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Where Wolfram belonged to his own terrorist group and was an Arms Dealer in the movie, where he works for All for One. Wolfram was given a Quirk to supplement his original Quirk. His motive is to rise up the ranks to win All for One's favor and become the man's successor.

All Might is furious and disgusted when he finds out the Commission's abuses and crimes. [[spoiler: He and his entourage march down to the Commission headquarters and give an ultimatum: release Hawks from his illegal debt they forced on him and give him a permanent hero license, or he's going to publicly denounce the Commission in front of the media and tell the Minister of Justice of all their crimes. Saito Hana, the Head of Commission, has no choice but to comply.]]

** The late Kei Midoriya is one to his wife Kiyome. They loved each other enough to elope together and his death had a profound impact on the lives of his parents, sister, wife and son. His death from a treatable illness caught too late left Kiyome with deep psychological scars and she still hasn't emotionally recovered from his death.

* OneSidedRivalry: Endeavor greatly dislikes Hawks for taking his spot as Number Two Hero and for being an upstart. Hawks has adored Endeavor since childhood and looks at him as an idol. And is rather disturbed that his idol hates him for no reason.

* ParentalBetrayal: The Big twist of [[WhamEpisode No More Cages]]. [[spoiler: The Takashiro parents knew that their daughter and grandson was being enslaved by the Commission and let it happen. * PyrrhicVictory: Bakugou's victory in the Sports Festival turns out to be one. His tantrums tainted his image and reputation, which Bakugou doesn't help with his poor conduct and bad attitude. Ultimately, people use his performance in the Sports Festival to make negative comparisons of him next to the Hosu Quartet and no one believes in Bakugou's strength.

* QuitYourWhining: Endeavor disregards Shouto's justified complaints over his abuse as whining and is annoyed that Hawks is believing Shouto.

** If [[{{Muggle}} Quirklessness]] is treated like a disability, then it should have been verified by at least three doctors like actual disabilities are.

** Regardless of the power of your own Quirk(s) and the boost you have from your support gear, when the odds are stacked against you it's best to fold because otherwise you are going to be completely outclassed and beaten by the enemy. Wolfram learned this the hard way when he believed his own power and the amplification device would allow him to take down All Might, Hawks, and Empathy at the same time and lost.

* RemovedFromThePicture: Inko had all of Hisashi's photos removed from the frames of the house after Hisashi stopped coming home. It's only when Inko digs out the photos from her room that Hisashi's face is shown. Toshinori verifies Hisashi as All for One.

** Lampshaded by Hawks that Izuku is an aversion of this, since in Hawks' experience, those with strength-boosting powers tend to have the super-toughness necessary to use it without wrecking their bodies.

* RevengeByProxy: Maya, Neito, and Bruce were once kidnapped as children, due to a villain wanting revenge on Maya's uncle, the hero Hurricane. It ended with Bruce getting a SlashedThroat and losing his Quirk and all three getting seriously traumatized.

* SadisticChoice: A rare heroic example: All Might, Inko, and Hawks confront Endeavor and give him a choice: either he signs custody of Todoroki over to them (and lose any chance he has at surpassing All Might), or they go public and expose all the terrible things Endeavor has done to his family. Endeavor chooses to preserve what little reputation he has, and signs the papers.

** [[spoiler: Monoma Aoi had an agreement with Saito Hana that they would stay out of their respective countries, so that they wouldn't be at each other's throats.]] Aoi quickly abandons that in order to help Inko rescue Hawks from his debt slavery with the Commission.

** Discussed between Hawks and Monoma. Hawks warns Monoma to be careful when he taunts Pros, because many of them are willing to punch civilians and powerful enough to get away with it. Monoma replies that he could sue them and win due to his ambassador mother and MEP father. Any hero that would hurt him would have to explain themselves to the Japanese Prime Minister why they hurt an ambassador's son.

* SecondPlaceIsForLosers: Endeavor is frustrated at always being Number Two after All Might and he's even more angry that Hawks has pushed him down to Number Three.

* SecretSecretKeeper: [[spoiler: The Midoriyas, the Commission, and All for One all knew that Kiyome was a vigilante but have their own reasons for keeping silent.]]

* SexyDiscretionShot: Ito (Dabi) asks Hawks if he's sharing his hotel room with anyone. Hawks tells him no and asks if Ito wants to come take advantage of that with him. They both head to Hawks' hotel room....Which cuts to Dabi talking to Wolfram in their own room afterward.

* ShameIfSomethingHappened: Hawks points out that with Endeavor's reputation of being an aggressive {{Jerkass}} with the worst publicity of the Top Ten Heroes, as well as it being publicly known that he has a poor relationship with his family with his eldest dead and his wife institutionalized, people would find it very believable that he abused them if Endeavor pushes Inko to go public with the truth with All Might and Hawks supporting her.

* ShootTheShaggyDogStory: Kei's parents forbade them from marrying [[spoiler:out of fear that Kiyome's vigilantism would get Kei killed]]. It backfired because they eloped anyways and never spoke to them for decades. It was ultimately pointless because Kei died due to mundane causes without ever seeing his parents again.

** Endeavor is more angry that he didn't get to arrest Stain instead of being relieved that his son is safe or that the Hero Killer is no longer at large.
** Bakugou is more angry that no one is paying attention to him, instead of being concerned that his classmates having nearly been murdered.

* SlippedTheRopes: Zigzagged, as Stain used the distraction caused by the flying Noumu to get out of his handcuffs, yet chose not to actually escape.

** There's a bizarrely literal example with Monoma's Quirk, which sees other Quirks as 'Threads'. Monoma notices that Izuku suddenly has more Quirks than usual (because of Copy All), which is what leads him to find out about All for One and One for All.

* StageMom: Endeavor is the Stage Dad from hell. He constantly controls his son Shouto's life in attempt to have Shouto surpass All Might, which he can't do myself. He's physically and verbally abusive, attempts to micromanage Shouto's life and training and tries to have Hawks continue to do so on his behalf. Hawks is both alarmed and horrified when he realizes what Endeavor's really like.
** Even Endeavor is outdone by Kiyome's parents.[[spoiler: Kiyome's parents wanted their daughter to become a pro hero despite what their daughter actually wanted. ** Rumi jokes about Shouto and Izuku's romantic relationship being like this, using the other name for this trope: Romeo and Juliet syndrome, since as far she knew Endeavor had nothing to do with Izuku's parents. Which she turns out to be right about in retrospect since Endeavor does have a feud with Inko and wanted Shouto have to have nothing to do with Izuku.

** David readily admits the smart way to prevent the {{MacGuffin}} from falling into the wrong hands would be to destroy it. Unfortunately it's locked up and the higher-ups won't allow them access to do so!
* StealthInsult: Dabi notes that the outsides of Hawks' and All Might's agencies are heavily surveillanced by the League of Villains. Endeavor's agency has little surveillance by comparison, with the implication that All for One doesn't see Endeavor as a threat.

* StrictParentsMakeSneakyKids: Kiyome's parents refused to let her go out so she learned how to lockpick to sneak out at night. Sometimes Kiyome would go to her boyfriend's house and break him out to spend time with him.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Hawks looks like a male version of his mother Kiyome.

* SuperiorSuccessor: All Might regards Hawks as the superior Number Two Hero because people like and trust Hawks. Hawks doesn't ruins people's faith in the hero system like Endeavor does. People are soothed by the possibly of Hawks becoming the Number One Hero once All Might retires. As Toshinori puts it:

* SurroundedByIdiots: Dabi is infuriated at having his command usurped by the total idiot that is Wolfram and all his underlings follow Wolfram's stupid plan instead of following the original plan.

* TakingYouWithMe: Mina was perfectly fine with failing, if it meant Bakugou would also fail.

* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Mirko points out that Bakugou will probably break into Top Twenty based his skill and power alone. That said, Bakugou will never get into the Top Ten, because people want heroes to to genuinely heroic and compassionate, something that Bakugou severely lacks.

** Hawks figures his rise to Number Two is temporary and eventually he'll drop back to Number Three. Not knowing of the outside factors that conspire to have him either keep his new position or kick him further up.

* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: Mirko refuses to stop visiting the Aery until she gets her chance to meet Fuyumi. Hawks keeps telling to go her to go back to her own agency but she refuses until she gets to meet her crush.

* ThreatBackfire: Endeavor tries to defend himself from Inko, All Might, and Hawks' blackmail by pointing out they would rattle the system if they go public. They don't care about the system and All Might can spin it that so the public would be glad to see the back of Endeavor, since they would have faith in himself and Hawks.

** The Heroics Commission are solely on the Lawful side. Because Endeavor is the Number Two with a high criminal apprehension rate, they take the Lawful route of taking his side and defaming the abuse reporter. They completely disregarded the Good they could have done by letting Endeavor have an abuse scandal.

* UndisclosedFunds: Endeavor is strongarmed into giving his family a very generous trust to pay for Shouto and Natsuo's schooling, Rei's hospital and therapy bills, and the siblings' living expenses.
* UnknownRival: Bakugou considers Izuku his biggest rival for strongest student. Izuku doesn't have time to react to Bakugou's constant baiting and nor does he care to.

* UnspokenPlanGuarantee: Izuku makes an elaborate plan that would have showed the Hosu Quartet's new skills during the class spar. Only to change his mind and go with an unspoken plan (to the audience) that succeeds rather spectacularly.

** Due to the Commission's coverup, Touya allegedly ended up dying and Rei was pushed into a nervous breakdown.
** Endeavor. [[spoiler: Todoroki Ryu raised Endeavor to be the perfect pro hero and abused him terribly to keep him firmly under the Commission's complete control. It backfired massively as Endeavor refused to do anything that anyone else tells him, especially his father, and became too dangerous for them to control even with the proof of Endeavor abusing his own family. Todoroki Ryu couldn't even take one of Endeavor's children to groom, because Endeavor refused to allow him anywhere near his own children. So Todoroki Ryu enslaved the young and talented Hawks so they could have the perfect, powerful, and attractive propaganda hero that wasn't allowed to refuse anything they asked him to do.]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Endeavor was once a much kinder person, considering he used to be friends with Inko and Tomoko. Back in their UA days, he tried keep the two of them out of trouble, using his fire powers to migrate the damages their antics would cost. But then Endeavor became blinded by his ambitions and frustrations towards his goal of beating All Might. He coerces Rei to marrying him and used her to bear four children in hopes of having a child strong enough to defeat All Might. Endeavor beat his wife and children for not meeting his standards and neglected his eldest children when they were perceived to be "useless". When his friend Inko attempted to report him on his family's behalf and stop him from abusing his family, Endeavor had the Commission cover up the charges, had Inko discredited, and ruined her career to the point she had to start over completely.

** The Heroics Commission seek to have Hawks rise as high in the hero ranks as possible and do anything to allow circumstances to favor Hawks as much as possible. It's not that the Commission cares about Hawks; it's that they want a hero who is required to obey them to be as high-ranking as possible.

* VitriolicBestBuds: Mirko and Hawks frequently trade jabs over the other's stupidity and they're best friends.
* TemptingFate: Hawks figures his rise to Number Two is temporary and he'll eventually drop back to Number Three. Not knowing of the outside factors that conspire to have him either keep his new position or kick him further up.
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: Rei wonders what happened to her son, Touya and wonders why he hasn't come to visit her like the rest of his siblings. Rei also wonders why Fuyumi gets this look on her face when she asks about Touya.

* VillainRespect: Stain hates having to be taken down but he can appreciate that he was defeated by genuinely heroic people like Izuku and Hawks.

* TheWatcher: Dabi's self-appointed role in the League of Villains is to catalog all the surveillance for the Aery, the All Might agency and the Endeavor agency in which the League has spies or cameras on. This is mostly allow him to act as a GreekChorus without actually having to be near anyone them. [[spoiler: That changes when All for One has Dabi cement his loyalty to the League.]]

* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: Inasa is introduced to his fellow Warren interns with Momo and Itsuka, two conventionally attractive girls, and Shinsou, a lanky pale boy who hasn't slept in a week. Guess which one Inasa [[LoveAtFirstSight falls for immediately?]]

* WhosLaughingNow: Inko attempted to report Endeavor for his abuse of his family only to lose her career for her troubles. 18 years later, accompanied by All Might and Hawks, Inko's gentle smile sends great fear into Endeavor's heart.

** Fuyumi has a Methane ice Quirk, which means she generates frozen natural gas! She has flammable and explosive ice, therefore she's powerful in her own right. But she went along with her father's refusal to train her and become a schoolteacher instead.

* XanatosGambit: Spying on the Endeavor agency turns out to be a win-win situation for All for One. Not only does he get a dragon hoard's worth of intel on his enemies, he also uses said intel to cement Dabi's loyalty.

* YouCalledMeXItMustBeSerious: A big hint that Izuku is no longer affectionate towards him and is sick of Bakugou's treatment of him is when he calls Bakugou by his last name instead of the affectionate "Kacchan".

* ILied: A heroic variant. Monoma Aoi threatens to tell the Minister of Justice of all the crimes the Commission committed if Saito Hana doesn't release Hawks from his illegal debt and never threaten to take his hero license away. She has her bodyguard secretly record the entire meeting and she's going send the footage to the Minister of Justice anyway.

* IndenturedServitude: [[spoiler: How the Commission traps Hawks and Kiyome: they pay for their living expenses and school tuition by loaning them money with very high interest rates. Then when Hawks became an adult, they pushed him into founding a hero agency. Running an agency straight out of school has many expenses like employees' salaries, maintenance and equipment costs which forced Hawks into deeper debt and firmly under the Commission's control. Even though Hawks was a Top Ten Hero, his salary still isn't enough to pay the €70,000,000 ($80,000,000 USD) debt!]]

** Everyone at the Aery have a fondness for bird-themed nicknames: Kiyome is Mama Bird, Izuku is Kiwi, and Shouto is Penguin.

** Bakugou gets more angry that no one outside of his friends consider him the strongest anymore and everyone else focuses on the Hosu Quartet.

** Bakugou abused Izuku with his bullying for a decade and got away with it virtually unpunished. That finally begins to change when Izuku tells his family how Bakugou influenced his decision to accept One for All. With Hawks knowing that Bakugou is a horrible bully, he warns Mirko against giving Bakugou an internship. Combined with Bakugou's bad reputation from the Sport Festival and Best Jeanist's internship, karma is finally coming around for Bakugou.

* KickedUpstairs: Hawks gives the Hosu Quartet a very sought-after internships at his agency. Mostly because he believes that none of them have a self-preservation instinct between the four of them.
* KidHasAPoint: While Izuku was being overly secretive and immature, he did have a valid reason to seek outside validation and not tell his mom anything, since Inko's attempts at support either emotionally scarred him or she completely ignored the serious problems he was having.

* LeonineContract: When Sora was discovered as a child to have massive potential as a hero, the Heroics Commission gave an offer to Hawks' mother, Kiyome. The Commission would pay for all of their living expenses and Sora's schooling in exchange for them training Sora to be a pro-hero and Sora having to follow their orders once he becomes one. Kiyome had no other choice due to them living in poverty, as Kiyome has difficulty finding work as a single mother of a young child. Kiyome's parents disowned her and her in-laws seemed to despise her so she has no help from her family. Hawks was railroaded into becoming a pro-hero with his mother frequently clashing with the Heroics Commission in his defense. While initially Sora is trained gently, Kiyome would intervene if the Commission would push Sora too hard. She wasn't always successful. Hawks recounts a handler beating him in front of his mother to show that she's ultimately powerless and the Commission makes the decisions.

* LetsSplitUpGang: Izuku, Mei and Melissa head for security. Neito, Shinso, Momo and Inasa take the villains on the 80th floor up while Kendo, Fumikage, Tenya and Shoto, take it from 79 down. Camie takes point at the bottom while Bruce stays behind because he's an untrained civilian.
* ALighterShadeOfGrey: The All Might-Hawks faction share the same tendency for blackmail as their rival faction the Commission. But they blackmail to save the victims of the Commission's coverup, free Hawks and his mother from enslavement, and reform the Commission.

* LittleNo: When Inko tell Endeavor that he has to give up custody of Shouto and make a trust for his family, Endeavor gives a defiant "No".

* LogicalWeakness: Due to being a CloseRangeCombatant with a ground-based fighting style, Stain has a more difficult time fighting long-ranged attackers like Todoroki, Tokoyami, and Hawks. Stain is overhelmed by Hawks' flying and FeatherFlechettes as Hawks is too distant for him to attack. While Stain doesn't go down easy, its clear that Stain had the disadvantage over Hawks.
** Since being an UpliftedAnimal is Nedzu's Quirk, [[spoiler: Izuku disables Nedzu by cancelling it with Pause.]]

** David can't make Izuku any support gear until Izuku gets his hero license. However Melissa, a Support student, is perfectly allowed to help a Hero student.

* MandatoryUnretirement: Aoi retired as Ambassador to Japan to be close to her son and reconnect with her old friends. She is forced back into politics by her mentor since Aoi was responsible for taking down the Heroics Commission which now needs new leadership.
* TheMasqueradeWillKillYourDatingLife: [[spoiler: Kei's parents refused to let him date Kiyome out of fear that Kiyome's vigilantism would get him killed. He did it anyways.]]

** Inko met Hisashi when she accidentally spilt coffee on him when she crashed into him on the way to her finals when she was a law student. She didn't realize that she left behind her wallet until she tried to went home and he called her. He got a date from her and the rest was history.
* AMistakeIsBorn: Sora is stated be an accident baby.

* NamesToRunFromReallyFast: Todoroki Ryu, Endeavor's father, probable source of Endeavor's Fire Quirk and a politician. Certainly not a friendly one, considering his name means "dragon".

* NeverMyFault: Despite Shiketsu nearly being being UA's equal, the majority of the Top Hundred Heroes are all UA graduates. Shiketsu blames their graduates for not representing the school properly, when in fact their strict attitudes and restrictions causes their graduates to be too inflexible to survive in the field.

** Bakugou ignores and is pointedly rude to Haruto the Aery receptionist when he demands to see Hawks. Haruto and Camie have none of that and Camie throws Bakugou out.

** Midoriya is Inko's family name. Hisashi Ishikawa took Inko's name when he married her, since he's a supervillain.

** Kiyome no longer lives alone in Kyoto due to the ricecooker incident.
** Hitoshi stopped Todoroki by hypnotizing Todoroki to sing Disney songs. WordOfGod said that it was "Let It Go".

* ObfuscatingStupidity: Camie is the third smartest student in her year at Shiketsu. While most of her ditziness is genuine, she acts more ditzy then she actually is, because she regards her classmates as being too uptight.

** The normally boisterous Inasa is more shy and quiet when in front of Hawks, because he's afraid of fucking up the one chance to make a good impression and get an internship.

** Throughout the meeting with the head of the Heroics Commission, All Might is not smiling. In fact he is both disappointed and full of disdain. Saito Hana is terrified and doesn't feel safe the entire time the Symbol of Peace is looking down on her.

Hawks doesn't usually patrol Hosu but with the attack on Ingenium last week, Stain needed to taken down ''yesterday''. As Stain continues to avoid capture, the Hosu Pros need all the help they can get.

His intern Tokoyami brings to Hawks' attention a mysterious message Tokoyami received from his classmate with the message being coordinates to a nearby alleyway. Fearing that Tokoyami's classmate may be hurt or have been attacked by a Noumu, Hawks and Tokoyami head to the message's coordinates.

Hawks comes across three of Tokoyami's classmates fighting for their lives against Stain and trying to defend a downed pro-hero. When Hawks gives much needed aid and attacks Stain, never had he expected how much future events would change things.

*** Everyone that's not part of the Aery and Warren group is left so the author wouldn't have to juggle the entirety of Class 1-A, the I-Island cast and the villains.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Where Wolfram belonged to his own terrorist group and was an Arms Dealer in the movie, here he works for All for One. Wolfram was given a Quirk to supplement his original Quirk and his motive is to rise up the ranks to win All for One's favor and become the man's successor.

** Inko realizes that her son and his mentor were lying to her for months and Izuku could have been crippled by his new Quirk.

* AesopAmnesia: Discussed. Hawks knows that it will take more than one talk to get Inasa to change his ideals on hot-bloodedness. Hawks notes that it took Pop☆Step multiple times to get through Tenya's head on the dangers of not thinking things through or being Lawful Stupid.

** Endeavor went through deplorable lengths to surpass All Might which includes using his family as his stepping stone. It's all for naught, his negative qualities drop him to Number Three with his recklessness making it difficult to get Number Two making becoming Number One to be even more of pipe dream. [[spoiler: His treatment of his family is so horrible that it drives the other genuinely heroic characters like Hawks, All Might and Inko to intervene to save his family from him. So Endeavor no longer possesses his "perfect tool" Shouto and has to pay restitution to the family he neglected and abused. The more popular Hawks is being groomed to be All Might's immediate successor as Number One hero. ]] All his children hate and fear him. His reputation with the both the public and fellow Top Ten heroes is the toilet. Everything he worked as amounted to nothing.

* CelebrityCrush: Dabi gains one on Hawks for one-uping :his old man Endeavor and for being a true hero like Stain preaches about.

** ToBeLawfulOrGood: Many heroes are so focused on following the laws or toeing the party line that they ignore being good. The police try to cover up the Hosu Quartet's involvement so they wouldn't be embarrassed. The Commission covered up Endeavor's abuse because of his high criminal apprehension rates. Whereas Hawks willingly works with vigilantes, tries to be as honest as he can and focuses more an being a good hero and person.

** Hawks mentions in Neito's introduction how its really bad for heroes when politicians get involved, wordlessly telling Shouto that politicians pressure the Commission. When Neito's mother, Aoi gets involved she proves Hawks right. As the ambassador to France, she has a direct line to the Prime Minster and Minister of Justice. Which gives All Might's ultimatum to the Commission much more weight.

** Shouto hasn't visited his mother after the Sports Festival. Just because he had a speech that changed his worldview, it doesn't take away a near decade of trauma and mixed feelings.

** Songstress, a KnowledgeBroker and a friend of Monoma's parents who is never seen. She warns the Monoma parents about the state of Japan and the importance of keeping their son's powerful Quirk a secret.

* GirlfriendInCanada: Aoyama is dating his friend from middle school that went to a different high school. Fumikage isn't sure whether said friend is real or if Aoyama made them up as an excuse to not date him.
* TheGlassesGottaGo: Fumikage recommends that Iida at start wearing contact lenses so Iida won't be disabled by losing his glasses. And so that Mei Hatsune doesn't have the opportunity to give him bionic eyes.

* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: Toshinori doesn't understand why Endeavor doesn't try to not be an asshole.

* GotVolunteered: Minister of Justice Shina makes [[{{Ambadassador}} Aoi]] take position as the new Head of the Heroics Commission. Aoi attempts to refuse but Shina browbeats her into it. Neither of them wants another [[GreaterScopeVillain Todoroki Ryu]] or [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Saito Hana]] in the position.
* GrayAndGreyMorality: There are two factions on the Hero side. Both sides believe that heroes are necessary for society's protection and want to see heroes prosper and succeed. However, both groups have radically different views of what is considered prosperity and success. Both are technically on the same side but their ideologies couldn't be more different.
** The Commission will protect the Top Ten Heroes from any scandal or consequences to protect the heroes' image. It doesn't matter who gets hurt or what laws are broken because of the coverups, what matters is that the Heroes are still saving people and still look like heroes. The Commission wants the most powerful heroes? They will find and groom any talented people they find and place them under their direct control. Which can range from recruitment to outright enslavement, as in the case of Hawks.

* GreekChorus: Dabi acts as outside commentor to Hawks' rise in the ranks and Endeavor's subsequent fall.

* HateSink: There's several and they're all spoilers.

* HasAType: Rumi pegs the Midoriyas' type as "smart with a side of crazy". Considering people romanced by Midoriyas include [[AlmightyMom Kiyome]], [[BrassBalls Monoma]], and freaking ''[[TheDreaded All for One]]'', she has a point.
* HaveWeMet: Sora has the vaguest feelings that he knows the cute redhead that he's flirting with but Sora assumes its because he HasAType.

* HeroWithBadPublicity: Endeavor has the worst publicity of all the Top Ten Heroes with a reputation of being rude, aggressive, and impulsive. He's a subversion, however, as the negative rumors are not only more than true, in fact he's actually much worse.

* HisOwnWorstEnemy: Bakugou is a genuinely talented kid with a very powerful Quirk. However he sabotages his own chances for success by being an abusive asshole.

** A father raises their son to become a pro hero. The father is extremely abusive to his wife and son. The son grows up and refuses to let their father control him anymore, and doesn't have anything to with his father. Is this Shouto and his father Endeavor[[spoiler:, or Endeavor with his father Todoroki Ryu]]?

** Todoroki Ryu [[spoiler: abused and raised Endeavor into being a hero that the Commission could have complete control over. It backfired massively as Endeavor become too powerful physically and politically for them to control, and refused Ryu to have any contact with his grandchildren. In the end, Todoroki Ryu was forced to retire which destroyed most of his political power.]]

** Heroes too rigid in their morality or ways tend be the ones who die in the field.

* HourglassPlot: In the beginning of the series, Bakugou is seen as a future hero with a bright future while Izuku is the ostracized nobody. Now, Izuku is a budding paragon being trained by the Number Two Hero while Bakugou is slowly becoming more reviled as his history as a violent bully comes to light.

** Hawks' Quirk Fierce Wings got his abilities from his mother Kiyome Takashiro's flight and hardening feathers and his father Kei Midoriya's minor gravitational Quirk.

** Izuku gets Copy All from his mother Inko's minor gravitational Quirk and his father Hisashi's [[spoiler:All for One]].

* OddNameOut: Phantom Thief is on a team with Gale Force, Creati and Shinso. In Shinso's defense, he didn't time to make up a name.

** Melissa's similarity to Toshinori is not due to simple PhenotypeStereotype, but due to her being Toshinori's secret biological daughter with her father [[{{Transsexual}} David]] birthing her.

* AdaptedOut: Melissa's Missing Mom does not exist here.

* AntiClimax: Normally in [[spoiler: Dad for One]] fics such as ''Fanfic/ConversationsWithACryptid'' or ''Fanfic/FromMuddyWaters'', the revelation is usually a major reveal or major ongoing character arc. Here, Inko and Izuku find out when Inko shows All Might her wedding photos. It's just something that Izuku and Inko have to deal with but not life-changing.

* ProperlyParanoid: Monoma's parents downplayed the true strength of Neito's Quirk in the justified fear that people would try to kidnap their son into villainy. Given that Neito had attempted kidnappings on his connections alone, that fear is justified.

** Dabi thought he was dreaming when he was a child about a woman who tried to get social services involved to help him and his family. He's really pleased to find out that Inko was real and finally able to pull through.

* OneDegreeOfSeparation: Hawks and Izuku turn out to be related with their mothers being sisters-in-law. Hawks went to Tensei's wedding and promptly poached Pop Step from him. Inko used to be [[spoiler: Endeavor's]] friend and worked as a founding member of his agency. Inko knows Rei, Fuyumi, and Touya through her attempts at rescuing them.

* RevengeByProxy: Maya, Neito and Bruce were once kidnapped as children due to villain wanting revenge on Maya's uncle, the hero Hurricane. It ended with Bruce getting a SlashedThroat and losing his Quirk and all three getting seriously traumatized.

* SchoolBullyingIsHarmless: Defied. Bakugou's bullying wrecked Izuku's self-esteem and ability to trust in adults. Bakugou's nature as a bully comes reap real consequences.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: The police try to have Hawks take sole credit for taking down Stain to not embarrass the police and Hosu pros that they were outdone by three high-schoolers. Hawks refuses for three reasons. One, it would imply that Hawks abandoned his intern in the middle of a battlefield. Two, the public will find out the truth eventually due to Stain's fanatical fanbase. Three, Hawks had his office give the news a press release already.

** [[spoiler: Monoma Aoi had an agreement with Saito Hana that they would stay out of their respective countries so they wouldn't be at each other's throats.]] Aoi quickly abandons that in order to help Inko rescue Hawks from his debt slavery with the Commission.

** Discussed between Hawks and Monoma. Hawks warns Monoma to be careful when he taunts Pros because many of them are willing to punch civilians and powerful enough to get away with it. Monoma replies that he could sue them and win due to his ambassador mother and MEP father. Any hero that would hurt him would have to explain themselves to the Japanese Prime Minister why they hurt an ambassador's son.
** Endeavor got away with his very visible abuse of his family despite Inko's attempt at reporting him. The Commission covered up the allegations due to Endeavor's position as Number Two Hero and discredited Inko.
** The Heroics Commission supposedly shut down their training facilities by the Prime Minister's orders 20 years ago. Considering that Hawks grew up being trained in those facilities, it shows who much the Commission obeyed that law.

** [[spoiler: Todoroki Ryu was the former Head of the Heroics Commission. Through them, he was gotten away with his own abuse of his wife and son, covered his now-adult son's abuse of his family and enslaved Hawks and his mother in his bid of making a high-ranking hero under his control.]]
* SecondPlaceIsForLosers: Endeavor is frustrated at always being Number Two after All Might and he's even more angry that Hawks pushed him to Number Three.

* SecretSecretKeeper: [[spoiler: the Midoriyas, the Commission and All for One all knew that Kiyome was a vigilante but have their own reasons for keeping silent.]]

* SerialRomeo: Implied with Mirko. Hawks' reaction to her having a crush on Fuyumi is 'not again?!'

** Izuku does his very best to avoid thinking how his father is a supervillain.

** Neito can see other people's Quirks as threads. He can tell what type of Quirk they have, what their Quirk does and how many do they have.

* SexyWalk: Camie deliberately walks with a sway to her hips to distract Bakugou while she sets up her illusions.
* ShameIfSomethingHappened: Hawks points out with Endeavor's reputation of being an aggressive {{Jerkass}} with the worst publicity of the Top Ten Heroes as well as it being publicly known that he has a poor relationship with his family with his eldest dead and his wife institutionalized. People will find it very believable that he abused them if Endeavor pushes Inko to go public with the truth with All Might and Hawks supporting her.

** Both Izuku and Hawks are major hero fanboys with a love for {{Fun Tshirt}}s.
** Mei has gotten her genius, technical skill and terrifying nature from her mom, Tomoko.

** Mirko notes the Midoriyas have a thing for smart but crazy. Considering Izuku[[note]] Shouto Todoroki and Neito Monoma[[/note]], Inko[[note]] Hisashi Ishikawa AKA [[TheDreaded All for One]].[[/note]], Hawks's father Kei [[note]] Kiyome Takashiro [[/note]] and Hawks [[note]]Dabi[[/note]] himself, she has a point.
** Inko is attracted to intelligent but powerful people, considering her past relationship with Aoi Monoma and her marriage to Hisashi Ishikawa. Her son has similar tastes as he considers dating Aoi's son

* ShootTheShaggyDogStory: Kei's parents forbade them from marrying [[spoiler: in fear that Kiyome's vigilantism would have gotten Kei killed.]] It backfired because they eloped anyways and never spoke to them for decades. It was ultimately pointless because Kei died due to mundane causes without ever seeing his parents again.
* ShoutOut: One of the past heads of the Heroic Commission is [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Senju Madara]]

** Defied. Despite Izuku being the son of All for One and having a similar Quirk to his father, no one actually holds this against him. Toshinori refuses to re-take One for All, and Hawks and Gran Torino agree that he takes after his mother and [[GreaterScopeParagon uncle]] more.

* SinisterSurveillance: The outsides of Hawks' agency and All Might's agency are heavily watched with both hidden cameras and spies. [[spoiler: The Midoriya household and the Endeavor agency are heavily bugged both inside and out.]]

** Endeavor is more angry that he didn't get to arrest Stain instead being relieved that his son is safe or that the Hero Killer is no longer at large.
** Bakugou is more angry that no one is paying attention to him instead of being concerned that his classmates having nearly been murdered.
* SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Any restraint in dealing with a Heroics Commission died a fiery death [[spoiler: when it's found out they deliberately trapped Hawks in debt slavery with a massive €70,000,000 debt for his living expenses, school tuition, agency start-up, agency maintenance and employee salaries with the "loans" the Heroics Commission made him take.]] No quarter was given to the Commission and Saito Hana after that became known.

* SlippedTheRopes: Stain used the distraction caused by the flying Noumu to get out of his handcuffs.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Stain only appears for one chapter but the impact of his fight against the Hosu Quartet and Hawks is felt throughout the story.

* SpiritAdvisor: Neito ends up meeting Nana in his One-for-All induced vision. She tells him that he shouldn't there and was lucky that he didn't die. But she wishes him the best of luck and tells him to watch Izuku's back.

** Being an illusionist herself, Camie spots the illusion Hawks' receptionist Haruto has over his computer. The key reason Camie spots it is because Haruto's work computer seems way too old for a modern and high-ranking hero agency. The receptionist recruits her as intern on the spot.

* StageMom: Endeavor is the Stage Dad from hell. He constantly controls his son Shouto's life in attempt to have Shouto surpass All Might, which he can't do myself. He's physically and verbally abusive, attempts to micro-manage Shouto's life and training and tries to have Hawks continue to do so on his behalf. Hawks is both alarmed and horrified when he realizes what Endeavor's really like.
** Even Endeavor is outdone by Kiyome's parents.[[spoiler: Kiyome's parents wanted their daughter to become a pro hero despite what their daughter actually wanted. Despite knowing that the Commission enslaved their daughter and grandson, they let them. They asked the Commission for a substantial bribe to keep their silence. Takashiro Himari thought that their daughter's enslavement would make her useful and the ¥3,200,000,000 bribe a nice way to make up for their "bad investment."]]

* StarCrossedLovers: Its joked that its a Midoriya thing.
** Kiyome's parents and Kei's parents refuse to allow them to marry and didn't want their kids dating in the first place.
** Rumi jokes about Shouto and Izuku's romantic relationship being like this, using the other name for this trope: Romeo and Juliet syndrome since as far she knew Endeavor had nothing to do with Izuku's parents. She which turns out to be right about in retrospect since Endeavor does have a feud with Inko and wanted Shouto have to have nothing to do with Izuku.
* TheStarscream: Wolfram was placed as Dabi's second with explicit orders from All for One to keep the latter safe and not hurt nor kill him. Despite that, Wolfram resents having to take orders from a younger villain that he immediately disregards Dabi's orders and plans to backstab both Dabi and Tomura.

** Fumikage suggests that Iida wear contacts or have prescription-grade lenses in his helmet, although Iida points out that those have their own problems (he has trouble putting contacts on, his helmet might get knocked off in battle).
** Toshinori suggests that Shouto combine his fire and ice to make steam as an attack or a distraction. Since Shouto spent most of his life ignoring his fire side, it never occurred to him.
** David readily admits the smart thing to prevent the {{MacGuffin}} from falling into the wrong hands is to destroy it. Unfortunately it's locked up and the higher ups won't allow them access.
* StealthInsult: Dabi notes that the outsides Hawks' agency and All Might's agency are heavily surveillanced by the League of Villains. Endeavor's agency have little surveillance in comparison with the implication that All for One doesn't see Endeavor as a threat.
* StopBeingStereotypical when Hawks tells Rumi that she doesn't have to love carrots just because she has a rabbit Quirk. As she drinks carrot juice.
* Stress Vomit: Kiyome is on the verge of vomiting [[spoiler: when she finds out her sold her and her son out to the Commission because she refused to be a pro hero.]]

* SuperheroSpeciation: Everyone in the Aery and the Warren have varied and different Quirks with the exception of Izuku and Monoma. Izuku 's Copy All and Monoma's Copy are both PowerParasite powers with a lot of similarities to the point that Izuku gets help with his Quirk when Monoma tells Izuku of his own experiences. But Izuku's Copy All makes permanent copies with his and is a CloseRangeCombatant while Monoma's Copy makes him a SensorCharacter and he's a SquishyWizard.
* SuperhumanTrafficking: In Europe, it's good to be careful when revealing a child's Quirk. There are trafficking rings dedicated to kidnapping and selling children with powerful Quirks. Said children would end up as child soldiers forced into villainy.
* SuperiorSuccessor: All Might regards Hawks as the superior Number Two Hero because people like and trust Hawks. Hawks doesn't ruins people's faith in the hero system like Endeavor does. People are soothed by the possibly of Hawks becoming number one hero when All Might retires. As Toshinori puts it:

* SwitchingPOV: The narrator switches between multiple narrators.

** Natsuo has a Dry ice Quirk which means he generates ice so cold that it could cause frostbite on contact. But Endeavor saw him as a failure for not having a fire Quirk and Natsuo remained a civilian.

* WrongContextMagic: One for All doesn't work how Quirks are supposed to work. Quirks can't be passed through consensual consumption of DNA, shouldn't retain the consciousness of past wielders, or react differently to new wielders despite it being the same power, but One for All does, to the confusion of Hawks and co.
* XanatosGambit: Spying on the Endeavor agency turns out to be a win-win situation for All for One. Not only does he get a dragon horde's worth of intel on his enemies . He uses said intel to cement Dabi's loyalty. He either way gets dirt on Endeavor but now he gets a powerful member for his cause.

** Monoma wanted to prove to the people who said that he couldn't become a hero that he could fight with just Copy. He focused on training his quirk so much that he completely neglected his physical conditioning nor did he consider that he's effectively handicapping himself in a fight.

** Hawks' quirk Fierce Wings got his abilities from his mother Kiyome Takashiro's flight and hardening feathers and his father Kei Midoriya's minor gravitational quirk.
** Kiyome, in turn, got her quirk from her mother's wings and her father's hardening quirk.
** Monoma's quirk comes from his father's SuperSenses and his mother's copying quirk.
** Izuku gets Copy All from his mother Inko's minor gravitational quirk and his father Hisashi's All for One.

* HystericalWoman: Endeavor dismisses Inko's accusation of his treatment of his family being abuse as her being ridiculous and blowing things out of proportion. ** Despite being explicitly warned to not harm Dabi with the threat of his quirks being taken if he does, Wolfram ignores all warnings to focus on his own gratification - choosing to believe that his victory would smooth over any issue that All for One would have with his disobedience.
* ItsAllMyFault: Toshinori blames himself for missing Endeavor's abuse of his family and that his rivalry with Endeavor becoming toxic. In All Might's defense, [[{{Understatement}} he was kinda distracted by All for One.]]
* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: Both Toshinori and David still have feelings for each other but Toshinori left David and Melissa behind for their own safety to protect them from All for One. While David knows that Toshinori was justified in doing so, he's still bitter that he wasn't enough to actually help Toshinori.

** Bakugou abused Izuku with his bullying for a decade and got away with it virtually unpunished. That finally begins to change when Izuku tells his family how Bakugou influenced his decision to accept One for All. With Hawks knowing that Bakugou is a horrible bully, he warns Mirko against giving Bakugou an internship. Combined with Bakugou's bad reputation from the Sport Festival and Best Jeanist's internship, karma is finally coming for Bakugou.
** Endeavor's luck at avoiding consequences finally runs out [[spoiler: after former friend Inko teams up with All Might and Hawks]] to deal with him abusing his family.

** Without even being physically present, the Takashiro parents pulled one on their daughter. [[spoiler: They told the Commission as long as they were paid they didn't give a shit to what the Commission did to their daughter and grandson. The mother, Himari even said that Kiyome deserved to be enslaved for being such a bad investment and for her refusal to be a pro hero.]]
* KickedUpstairs: Hawks gives the Hosu Quartet a very-sought after internships at his agency. Mostly because he believes that none of them have a self-preservation instinct between the four of them.
* KidHasAPoint: While Izuku was being overly secretive and immature, he did have a valid reason to seek outside validation and not tell his mom anything since Inko's attempts at support either emotionally scarred him or she completely ignored the serious problems he was having.

* KnightInSourArmor: Hawks is rather cynical of the pro-hero industry due to growing up as a {{Child Soldier}} for the Heroics Commission and the focus on fame and power plays before doing actual good. Regardless of the situation, Hawks will work to be the best hero he can be because its what he can do.

* LaserGuidedKarma: it's on its way for Endeavor and Bakugou with actions being taken to expose Endeavor and Bakugou's growing bad reputation.

** Hawks notes the tendency of HotBlooded heroes of charging in without a plan and hyper focusing on specific targets. Which would get them killed because they don't pay attention to what's around them or to the plans of their fellow heroes.

* LeonineContract: When Sora was discovered as a child to have massive potential as a hero, the Heroics Commission gave an offer to Hawks' mother, Kiyome. The Commission would pay for all of their living expenses and Sora's schooling in exchange for them training Sora to be a pro-hero and Sora having to follow their orders once he becomes one. Kiyome had no other choice due to them living in poverty as Kiyome has difficulty finding work as a single mother of a young child. Kiyome's parents disowned her and her in-laws seemed to despise her so she has no help from her family. Hawks was railroaded into becoming a pro-hero with his mother frequently clashing with the Heroics Commission in his defense. While initially Sora is trained gently, Kiyome would intervene if the Commission would push Sora too hard. She wasn't always successful. Hawks recounts a handler beating him in front of his mother to show that she's ultimately powerless and the Commission makes the decisions.

* LetMeGetThisStraight: Hawks' reaction that only did Toshinori give Izuku a quirk that was too strong for him but didn't consider that Izuku needed additional training.
** A stunned Tenya recaps the reveal of Izuku's quirk and All for One being his father. To be fair, it was hard for even Izuku to believe at first.
* ALighterShadeOfGrey: The All Might-Hawks faction share the same tendency for blackmail as their rival faction the Commission. But they blackmail to save the victims of the Commission's cover-up, free Hawks and his mother from enslavement and reform the Commission.

Stain is overhelmed by Hawks' flying and FeatherFlechettes as Hawks is too distant for him to attack. While Stain doesn't go down easy, its clear that Stain had the disadvantage over Hawks.
** Since being an UpliftedAnimal is Nedzu's quirk, [[spoiler: Izuku disables Nedzu by cancelling it with Pause.]]
* LonelyTogether: Neito, Maya and Bruce were each other {{Only Friend}}s growing up as they were ostracized to due to political connections, temperaments or Quirks.

** David can't make Izuku any support gear until Izuku gets his hero license. But Melissa, a Support student is perfectly allowed to help a Hero student.
* LongLostRelative: Hawks and Izuku are first cousins with Hawks being born from Inko's late brother Kei.

* LoveObstructingParents: Kiyome's parents and Kei's parents didn't want their kids marrying each other.

Then [[spoiler: Ryu]] comes across an impoverished six year old who was better at rescuing than most adult pros with a convenient vigilante mother to train and control him through. This time around, [[spoiler: Ryu]] uses psychological [[spoiler: and financial]] abuse to keep his prodigy and the mother in line, which was far more effective.

* NamesToRunFromReallyFast: Todoroki Ryu, Endeavor's father, probable source of Endeavor's Fire Quirk and a politician. Certainly not a friendly one considering his name means dragon.

* NotQuiteTheRightThing: Hisashi bribed Doctor Tsubasa to fudge Izuku's test results for his quirk to have him read as quirkless. This was to protect Izuku and Inko from All for One's numerous enemies who would notice Izuku's quirk similarity to All for One's. While this protected Izuku from scrutiny, it ruined Izuku's life and chances for social acceptance as he's ostracized for his Quirklessness which destroyed Izuku and Inko's self-esteem.
* NotSoAboveItAll: As much as Hawks tries to set himself apart from teenage stupidity and immaturity, he has his fuck-ups too. As Dark Shadow drags Hawks for flying into windows a week ago, something which Fumikage and Dark Shadow haven't done since they were fledglings.
* NotSoSimilar: Mirko saw something of herself in Bakugou: hot-headed, powerful and are bad with working with people. For this, she considered taking Bakugou on as an intern. She quickly reconsiders when she finds out that Bakugou is a bully that suicide-baited a Quirkless person. For all of her lone wolf tendencies, she cares about protecting people and ''can't'' stand bullies.

* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: [[spoiler: Shouto is rescued from Endeavor's clutches. The rest of his family have a huge trust to cover their living expenses and Endeavor is blackmailed into staying away from his family. Meaning Shouto's world has been flipped upside down.]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Camie is the third smartest student in her year at Shiketsu. While most of her ditziness is genuine, she acts more ditzy then she actually is because she regards her classmates being too uptight.

* OneDegreeOfSeparation: Hawks and Izuku turn out to be related with their mothers being sister-in-law's. Hawks went to Tensei's wedding and promptly poached Pop Step from him. ** Defied. Hawks has Izuku and himself tell their friends the truth about Izuku's true quirk and All for One being Izuku's father to lessen the danger and prevent misunderstandings.
** Rumi is pretty angry that Sora didn't tell her about Izuku's quirk considering that he told her about Izuku's supervillain father. To be fair to Sora, he didn't know when would be the right time while Izuku's supervillain father is a security concern
* PowerIncontinence: Being brand new to his true quirk, Izuku has a hard time controlling his quirk as he can accidentally copy quirks just by thinking how cool he considers other quirks due to the attraction aspect. Monoma had a similar problem with his own quirk when he was younger as he would accidentally copy quirks whenever he touched people since he didn't have the concept of on or off yet.
* PowerParasite: Izuku is a rare heroic and downplayed example. His original Quirk, Copy All allows him to copy Quirks from their original owners, keep the copy and then make use of them in the same fashion with training. As a result he lacks the moral dilemma of stealing a Quirk because he needs or wants it, unlike his father All for One, who he got that aspect of his Quirk from.

* PragmaticHero: Takashiro Kiyome, All Might, Midoriya Inko and Monoma Aoi all agree to blackmail the Commission [[spoiler: to release Sora and Kiyome from the massive debt the Commission forced upon them to keep them in debt slavery. The Commission is so abhorrent and corrupt with their abuse of Hawks and frequent cover-up of other pro heroes they all collectively decide to use the threat of political reprisal to get justice for what they done.]]

** Unlike Endeavor, the Commission held off training the child Sora until he got older. This was mostly done to not damage Sora's growing body and Quirk and to acclimate Sora and his mother to their presence. All bets were off when he got older and more durable.
** Endeavor never hit Fuyumi. This is not him refusing to hit girls but refusing to hit someone whose quirk is flammable and explosive ice.

Having a quirk would allow Izuku to be accepted by society and allow him to fulfill his dreams. Toshinori realizes that Hawks' emphasis on Izuku's lack ''of choice'' signals that Hawks had something happen to him that he had no choice in.

* PyrrhicVictory: Bakugou's victory in the Sports Festival turns out to be one. His tantrums tainted his image and reputation, which Bakugou doesn't help with his poor conduct and bad attitude. Ultimately, people use his performance in the Sports Festival to make negative comparisons of him next to the Hosu Quartet and no one believes in Bakugou's strength
* QuicklyDemotedWoman: Inko was a founding member of Endeavor's agency and pivotal in how it runs. She was fired and erased from their history when she tried reporting Endeavor over his abuse of his family.

* RaceLift: Monoma is half French half Japanese here.

* RansackedRoom: When she's sees a letter on her desk in her locked home office, Aoi immediately knows that someone broke it. The letter carries a warning from the Songstress.

** Correlation doesn't equal causation. It's revealed the double-jointed toe equaling Quirklessness is an old wives' tale that people happened to believe a lot in. Quirklessness like real life genetic factors has a lot of complicated factors going into it.

** Had Yuuei known that Bakugou [[SuicideDare suicide-baited]] Izuku, Bakugou would have been put on probation at best or outright rejected.

** Tenya and Izuku drift apart from Ochako due to the Stain Incident intensifying the boys' friendship and having no time for her due to their internships.
** Despite Yuuei treating the Sports Festival as SeriousBusiness for their students to get noticed in the industry, in the long term, no one truly cares about the Sports Festival. The media cares more about current events so Bakugou is quickly shoved out of the spotlight in favor of the Hosu Quartet. Who helped captured Stain and are the interns of new number Two hero Hawks.
** Inko, Hawks, and All Might strong arm Endeavor into signing custody of his son Shouto over to them, or else they will go public with his abusive behavior. When Endeavor tries to protest, they point out that a). they have years' worth of actual evidence, b). that All Might's status as the Symbol of Peace, combined with Hawks' as the current Number Two Hero, give their word plenty of weight, and c). that Endeavor is so unpopular due to his recklessness and bad attitude that it wouldn't be hard to convince anyone that he's a domestic abuser, ''especially'' since it's public knowledge that he doesn't get along with his children, his wife is in a mental hospital, and his eldest son is dead. [[spoiler: He's not, but everyone thinks he is.]]. When Endeavor points out that revealing his actions would collapse the entire hero system, Inko coldly replies that she doesn't ''care'', as it was that very same system that allowed Endeavor to get way with his terrible behavior for years.

** Regardless of the power of your own quirk(s) and the boost you have from your support gear when the odds are stacked against you it's best to fold because otherwise you are going to be completely outclassed and beaten by the enemy. Wolfram learned this the hard way when he believed his own power and amplification device would allow him to take down All Might, Hawks, and Empathy at the same time and lost.

** Mirko never had any interns or sidekicks despite being the Number Five Hero due to her IWorkAlone attitude. The fact that she reconsidered to take on interns that she believes would flourish under her guidance just makes interning under her even more prestigious

** Hawks tells Inko, Izuku and Toshinori how the Heroics Commission bought him as their LaserGuidedTykebomb and he and his mother had no choice but to accept to get out of poverty.
** Izuku finds out that he isn't quirkless and his father's true identity.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: Due to having bird-based quirks both Hawks and his mother Kiyome have the superior eyesight of real-life birds of prey. Which allows them to see far away in flight and catch the subtle nuances of body language.

* RevengeByProxy: Maya, Neito and Bruce were once kidnapped as children due to villain wanting revenge on Maya's uncle, the hero Hurricane. It ended with Bruce getting a SlashedThroat and losing his quirk and all three getting seriously traumatized.

** Hawks' friend Riv has a quirk that allows her to sense if people have Quirks and what kind of quirks they have.
** Neito can see other people's quirks as threads. He can tell what type of quirk they have, what their quirk does and how many do they have.

** There's a bizarrely literal example with Monoma's Quirk, which sees other quirks as 'Threads'. Monoma notices that Izuku suddenly has more quirks than usual (because of Copy All), which is what leads him to find out about All for One and One for All.

* StopBeingStereotypical when Hawks tells Rumi that she doesn't have to love carrots just because she has a rabbit quirk. As she drinks carrot juice.

* SuperheroSpeciation: Everyone in the Aery and the Warren have varied and different Quirks with the exception of Izuku and Monoma. Izuku 's Copy All and Monoma's Copy are both PowerParasite powers with a lot of similarities to the point that Izuku gets help with his quirk when Monoma tells Izuku of his own experiences. But Izuku's Copy All makes permanent copies with his and is a CloseRangeCombatant while Monoma's Copy makes him a SensorCharacter and he's a SquishyWizard.
* SuperhumanTrafficking: In Europe, it's good to be careful when revealing a child's quirk. There are trafficking rings dedicated to kidnapping and selling children with powerful quirks. Said children would end up as child soldiers forced into villainy.

** The Takashiros wanted their daughter to use her powerful quirk to become a rich and famous pro hero. Woe betide her when Kiyome wanted to do something else with her life.

** Inko and Hawks are rather angry that Izuku and Toshinori were lying about Izuku's quirk and for planning to never Inko about it. Hawks is horrified that Toshinori didn't consider giving Izuku more training the first time the kid broke his arm and waited for Gran Torino to actually help Izuku.

* WillfullyWeak: Just because they have powerful quirks, it doesn't mean these examples wanted to be frontline fighters:

** Fuyumi has a Methane ice quirk which means she generates frozen natural gas! She has flammable and explosive ice meaning she's powerful in her own right. But she went along with her father's refusal to train her and become a school teacher.
** Natsuo has a Dry ice quirk which means he generates ice so cold that it could cause frostbite on contact. But Endeavor saw him as a failure for not having a fire quirk and Natsuo remained a civilian.

** There's an ongoing theme of balance. The balance between being too rigid a hero and too stiff, the balance Hawks keeps in his persona, the balance the Hosu Quartet play off each other with. The balance in being careless with a secret (ofa, specifically) and too careful. The balance of One for All and All for One in Izuku. Each time, the characters show how they embody balance. Normally someone is not in balance and another character corrects them.

* AccidentalKidnapping: In Hawks’ rush to get Monoma situated as his new intern, he forgets to tell him where Hawks is taking him. It isn’t until his other interns, Iida and Izuku, point out that he has just kidnapped Monoma off school campus that Hawks realizes that.

** Kiyome’s husband dies suddenly and she has to raise a young child by herself with seemingly no family to turn to.

** Kei’s parents try to have him stay away from a dangerous girl to keep him safe. He elopes with said girl and they never see him again.
** Neito offhandedly references how The European Underworld kept an eye on his quirk’s development. Had his parents not hid the extent of what Copy can do, he might have been kidnapped by a human trafficking ring.

** Put yourself out there and ask for the position you want if you know you have the skill for it! Even if you don’t get the position, you still might impress the right people.

* AesopAmnesia: Discussed. Hawks knows that it will take more than one talk to get Inasa to change his ideals on hot-bloodedness. Hawks notes that it took Pop☆Step multiple times to get through Tenya’s head on the dangers of not thinking things through or being Lawful Stupid.

* AlwaysSecondBest: Endeavor is smarting over the fact that he's now third best thanks to Hawks. His enmity with All Might is now partially transferred to Hawks.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Weaponized as Kiyome told embarrassing stories of Hawks’ toddlerhood to distract the interns from questions about Izuku’s quirk.
* AmazonChaser: Bakugou fell for the gorgeous Camie because she kicked his ass

All Might is furious and disgusted when he finds out the Commission's abuses and crimes. [[spoiler: He and his entourage march down to the Commission headquarters and give an ultimatum: release Hawks from his illegal debt they forced on him and give him a permanent hero license or he's going to publicly denounce the Commission in front of the media and tell the Minister of Justice of all their crimes. They allowed it to happen because they saw Kiyome as a failure for not wanting to become a pro hero. * BadassBureaucrat: Inko was a Management Department student who shaped Endeavor’s agency into the powerhouse it is. While she’s an average if intelligent civilian woman, she bravely stood up to Endeavor, a taller and powerful Pro-Hero and gives him a painful groin attack. Just seeing her fills Endeavor with dread. When he has the Heroic Commission ruin her career, she doesn't let it get her down. She goes to law school and becomes a lawyer specializing in Heroic Law!
* BatmanGambit: Mirko knew that as a school teacher and pseudo-parent to her brother, Fuyumi would be impressed if she was a good teacher to any interns she picked up. Not only did it work, but Fuyumi volunteered her teaching her experience to help Mirko. Now Mirko has more legitimate reasons to spend time with her girlfriend.
* BattleButler: Despite seeming like an average receptionist, Haruto is the Aery’s first line of defense and has had a hero license for 15 years.
* BelatedHappyEnding: For ''Manga/VigilanteMyHeroAcademiaIllegals'' Kouichi married Tensei and joined him as a sidekick in Idaten. Pop☆Step is poached from Idaten as sidekick for Hawks, which means she's on her way to fame.
* BeneathTheMask: When Inasa first met Shouto, he thought he was a huge asshole like Endeavor. When he meets him again as Hawks’ intern, he finds Shouto to be quiet and pensive. And a regular hormonal teenager.
* BigBadFriend: Hisashi Midoriya nee Ishikawa. Absentee husband and father and major supervillain.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Hawks is rather protective of children and becomes more so when those same kids become his interns:

* BillyElliotPlot: Kiyome’s parents wanted their daughter to become a rich and famous pro hero. Kiyome refused because she saw the Heroics industry as hopelessly corrupt and became a vigilante instead. The Takashiro parents let the Commission enslave their daughter and grandson in exchange for a massive bribe without a shred of remorse.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Pun intended but Fumikage enjoys working with Hawks because Fumikage doesn’t stand out for having a bird Quirk.
** Melissa and Mei, being both inventors and {{Mad Scientist}}s get along swimmingly to the point that Tenya fears for a moment that Mei will dump him.
* {{Blackmail}}: Inko, Hawks and All Might blackmail Endeavor into signing over custody of Shouto to Hawks and setting up a very large trust to his family in exchange for them not going public with Endeavor’s abuse.
* BlackSheep: Despite Shiketsu’s efforts, Hawks and Mirko deliberately don’t fit Shiketsu’s strict mold of HonorBeforeReason rigid heroes. They don’t have a very positive relationship with their alumnus school as a result.

** What Saito planned to tell All Might and Monoma Aoi that they’d done it out of the kindness of their (nonexistent) hearts, and kept the family in debt due to concerns relating to Ms. Takashiro’s vigilante past.
** Tokoyami sees through Aizawa’s lies since the students who fail the physical exam would need the Summer Camp even more and Shinsou is attending despite not being able to take the physical exam.
* BothSidesHaveAPoint: Mirko tears Vlad King a new one for over-focusing his students on quirk training to the point of neglecting their physical training. Which would get them killed if his students had to fight an actual villains. Seeing actual students having to fight for their lives against villains and seeing fellow Pros maimed or killed due to poor training, Mirko sees having varied training as life or death. Vlad King defends that his students could die if they don't get fine enough control on their Quirks. He had the summer training camp and the winter semester to focus on physical training and he didn't expect villains to start attacking students and thought they would have had a normal school year!
* BrassBalls: Neito's motto in life is "Fake it til you make it." He lives up to that motto when he asks both of his crushes, Izuku and Shouto, out on a date at the same time. Then he attempts to stare down the new number two hero Hawks when the latter attempts to intimidate him. Hawks was impressed (and amused) by Neito's moxie so he recruits him as an intern on the spot.
* BreakTheHaughty: Bakugou's {{Jerkass}} behavior is starting to bite him in the ass. Despite placing first in the Sports Festival, top heroes Hawks and Mirko refuse to take him as an intern due to his bullying behavior. He is outshone by the Hosu Quartet and his former victim Izuku no longer gives a damn about him. Everytime he tries to force his way, he is slapped down hard.

** Hawks is as big a fan to Endeavor as Izuku is to All Might. But he lost all respect for Endeavor and is heartbroken when he finds out that his once idol abuses his family.
** Izuku stops admiring Bakugou when his new friends and family help him realize that Katsuki is an abusive asshole and Izuku didn’t deserve his mistreatment.
** While Mina didn’t like Bakugou’s attitude, she still saw him as a friend. She’s angry when she finds out about Bakugou’s cruel bullying of Izuku through the rumor mill, and learns that it's all true.

* BrutalHonesty: When Izuku asks why Rumi doesn’t want to give Bakugou an internship, she bluntly calls Bakugou a piece of shit.

* CastHerd: Besides the ones from canon, there’s the Aery: Hawks, Kiyome, Steps, Haruto, Fumikage, Dark Shadow, Shouto, Tenya, Izuku, Camie and Neito. Then there’s the Warren: Mirko, Momo, Itsuka and Hitoshi.

** There’s an ongoing theme of balance. The balance between being too rigid a hero and too stiff, the balance Hawks keeps in his persona, the balance the Hosu Quartet play off each other with. The balance in being careless with a secret (ofa, specifically) and too careful. The balance of One for All and All for One in Izuku. Each time, the characters show how they embody balance. Normally someone is not in balance and another character corrects them.
* CharacterTics: Mirko thumps her foot when she’s asking questions or irritated.

* ChildhoodFriends: Neito grew up with Maya and Bruce in France as Maya’s father was the American ambassador to the EU and Bruce’s mom is a Scottish [=MEP=].

* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: In his high school years, Endeavor was in charge of limiting his friends, Tomoko and Inko’s path of destruction.

** Shouto comments that it’s nice to have training where he’s not being beaten during it.

** Izuku believed that Bakugou’s cruel bullying was acceptable due to Bakugou’s strong Quirk and potential as a hero. It didn’t help that his old teachers supported this by letting Bakugou get away with his cruel treatment. Izuku’s rather bewildered when Inko, Hawks and Mirko are horrified by this and break it to him that they were wrong to do so.

* ContinuityNod: Neito notes that it’s easy to raise a child into villainy, like in the case of Shiragaki

* CurbStompBattle: the better-trained and in-shape Camie hands Monoma’s Squishy Wizard butt to him.

* DareToBeBadass: Hawks asks Inasa should he bother recruiting him since Inasa didn’t showcase any skill and let Camie do all the talking. This finally moves Inasa to stop hiding behind Camie and really impress Hawks and Mirko with his fighting skills.

* DepartmentOfChildDisservices: Inko attempted to call social services to intervene on Endeavor’s abuse. The Commission bribed social services to disregard the case.

* DisproportionateRetribution: Kiyome doesn’t want to become a pro hero so her parents can’t live off her wealth and fame like they wanted. [[spoiler: Let’s sell her and their grandson into slavery so they could become millionaires!]]

* TheDogBitesBack: Izuku tells off Bakugou why he doesn’t deserve the internship and how Izuku told his new support system all the horrible things Bakugou did to him.
* DoubleStandard: Endeavor’s fine with beating his wife and sons but draws the line at laying a hand on his only daughter. This isn’t a good thing as it means that Fuyumi lives in terror of the one day that he will.

** Saito Hana is introduced marveling how certain heroes were both competent and popular. When she notes the Yuuei Big Three, she notes that she must get Mirio away from [[TheMentor Sir Nighteye]] to join another agency so she get him under the Commission’s influence.

** Even Hisashi/All for One thought Endeavor was bad news and wanted to take him down on his wife’s behalf.

** While the pros admit that Bakugou has a powerful quirk, it doesn’t excuse his history of being a violent bully.

* ExplainExplainOhCrap: After revealing how Inko found out All for One is her husband, she tells Gran Torino that she and Izuku’s haven’t seen him for seven years. She only knows that he’s still alive through the monthly child support checks. This gives Gran Torino the horrible realization that All for One survived his fight with Toshinori and is still at large.

* Fiction500: Monoma Aoi and All Might are rich enough that they could pay off Hawks’ forced €70,000,000 debt.

** Takashiro Kiyome, Hawks' mother is one to Todoroki Rei. They are both parents with powerful children and their agency was stripped from them by forces out of their control. They are separated from their families: Rei to being sold by her family to marry Endeavor and Kiyome because her family and in-laws disapproved of her marrying. Which prevents them from raising their children how they like, they constantly have to run interference to how their children were trained and are both abused as a result. But Rei’s [[SanitySlippage sanity was sapped]] by [[MaritalRapeLicense being forced to bear]] and protect four children by her [[DomesticAbuse abusive husband]]. While Kiyome only had one child out of a [[MarryForLove loving marriage]]. [[spoiler: Combined with Kiyome’s former training as a vigilante,]] Kiyome was better able to stand her ground.
** Hawks is one to Shouto, his fellow LaserGuidedTykebomb. Both were groomed since childhood to be heroes regardless what they wanted with mothers that couldn’t help them out of their situation. Shouto would have gladly cut his feet off to spite Enji but Hawks made use of all he learned from the Heroics Commission.
** Mirko and Uwabami are both high-ranking female heroes. Uwabami is popular for her friendly demeanor while Mirko is infamous for hating to work with people and her aggression. But Uwabami exploits her interns for her own personal gain without remorse. While Mirko makes sure that not only she gets the most skilled interns she makes sure she’s gets the ones that would benefit the most from her guidance.
** [[spoiler: Todoroki Ryu has Endeavor’s negative traits but amplified by 20. As opposed to his son, Ryu is the superior manipulator as his various crimes and abuses have been going on a lot longer without his victims being able to get away from him or stop him.]]

** Shouto hasn’t visited his mother after the Sports Festival. Just because he had a speech that changed his worldview, it doesn’t take away a near decade of trauma and mixed feelings.
** Due to the teachers knowing of Bakugou’s past abusive behavior toward Izuku, they make sure not to put them on the same team in the final.

* ForcedIntoEvil: Monoma discusses trafficking rings that sells powerful children into villainy. He notes that it’s easy to raise a child into villainy.
* ForcedToWatch: A former handler once beat the shit out of Hawks to punish Hawks’ mother for daring to think that she can protect her son. It was done to show that the Commission ultimately decides their lives.
* ForeignLanguageTirade: Monoma is so shocked by the contents of Izuku’s analysis journal that he mutters in rapid French that Itsuka doesn’t understand.

** Kiyome is rather suspiciously skilled for a civilian. She effortlessly sneaks up to a trained hero and four hero students without being noticed. She is a rather skilled lockpick which she passed down to her son. Less obviously, she had a major role in Hawks’ hero training growing up and successfully stood her ground with his handlers. [[spoiler: Kiyome is an ex-vigilante.]]

* GeekyTurnOn: Had Monoma not already had a crush on Izuku, he would have fallen in love when he read Izuku’s Quirk analysis.
** Izuku decides to give Monoma a chance just so he could pick Monoma’s brain when he reads Monoma’s Quirk analysis.

* GildedCage: Hawks and Kiyome had their living expenses paid for with the best training for a nascent pro-hero can ask for and a meteoric rise to the top. Hawks is forced to obey an order the Commission gives him and is constantly watched by his handlers. He had limited agency growing up and didn’t have a choice but to become a hero.
