For centuries, human mythology has held one common story: the story of a supernatural, seemingly endless train. Accounts of the train dating back to before the 21st century are fragmentary, and have not been collated in a single work previously. In this paper, I will summarise a collated series of accounts by both witnesses and former passengers of the train, in order to better outline its appearances throughout history.

* {{Crossover}}: The last excerpt reveals the ''Infinity Train'' and ''Franchise/StarTrek'' universes to be one-and-the-same, being a Captain's Log utilizing stardates that the author sourced from the "Federation".

These examples of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome seem to violate at least one of these rules, which disqualifies them: No character reactions (characters get angry, don't forgive, don't change their personality instantly, etc.); Too fantastical (depends on the properties of magic, powers, sci-fi tech, monsters, etc.); Not surprising (a character was warned about the outcome, it's used to provide Karma or An Aesop, or it simply follows normal conventions for this genre or medium); Plot happens (the example only describes an event, but not why audiences would expect a different, unrealistic outcome); Not an outcome (a character just explains why something wouldn't work as expected); More of a Deconstruction (the event has major, lasting effects on the plot, make something more realistic, but not completely realistic, or a parody/fanwork applies realistic consequences to the events of a different work); or fits better under a different trope. See the trope's definition for more details. If you believe a removal was a mistake, please bring it up in the cleanup thread.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: If multiple people disappear and re-appear over the years and give similar accounts of how it happened, there's naturally going to be an investigation of the cause.

* CrossoverFinale: The last excerpt technically counts as this, revealing the ''Infinity Train'' and ''Franchise/StarTrek'' universes to be one-and-the-same, thanks to a Captain's Log utilizing stardates that the author sourced from the "Federation".

* RightForTheWrongReasons: The person interviewing Lake assumes that her metal skin is a result of the train. While this can certainly be said to be the case, it's because she originated from a literal MirrorWorld on the vehicle, rather than be a normal human somehow transformed by the train. The author even notes that Lake avoiding the subject means she was probably hiding ''something'', but quickly decides that theorizing about it would be off-topic.

!!This work contains examples of:
* AmbiguousSituation: The author is unsure if the train being described as an "iron serpent" in early accounts reference the train's ability to transform into AFormYouAreComfortableWith, or if such depictions were the best people could give before locomotives existed as a frame of reference.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: {{Discussed|Trope}}. Lake's interview has her harshly criticize the train's method of helping people, while even Tulip's more favorable view has her admit to being unnerved by it.
--> ''You don’t get to just kidnap people because you want them to work through their baggage!''
* CassandraTruth: The existence of the train was this prior to the 21st century, at which point advances in technology helped abductees more easily record evidence of its existence and collate their stories. Until then, claims were dismissed as insane ramblings and delusions.
* CrossoverFinale: The last excerpt technically counts as this, as it implies the ''Infinity Train'' and ''Franchise/StarTrek'' universes are one-and-the-same, being a Captain's Log utilizing stardates that the author sourced from the "Federation".
* FramingDevice: The fanfic is written as though it is a research document, with the author's thoughts being interspersed between excerpts from other texts such as letters, newspaper articles, and interviews from throughout history.
* HookedUpAfterwards: Lake and Jesse, with the former being identified as "Mrs. Lake Cosay" in her interview.
* RecessiveSuperGenes: The author offhandedly mentions that Lake's metal abilities are present in some, but not all, of her descendants.
* RiddleForTheAges: The crux of the fic. It's been documented throughout human history for centuries, but no one has thus far been able to figure out how it works or where it came from.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: The person interviewing Lake assumes that her metal skin is a result of the train. While this can certainly be said to be the case, it's because she originated from a literal MirrorWorld on the vehicle, rather than be a normal human somehow transformed by the train.
