** The reason why Jessica lost seven years with her son was because Kilgrave refused to share his latest conquest with a parasite, so he forced a c-section on her and mind-controlled her into giving the baby for adoption. Take the MindManipulation aspect away, and you have a woman abandoning her child because of an abusive partner.
** Even when Jessica found Peter again, she resisted the urge to go back for him because she had nightmares about hurting him with her enhanced strength without realising what she was doing to him, such nightmares only going so far as breaking his arm before she stopped herself going any further.
** After losing two sets of parents, Peter is rather anxious about his birth parents wanting to have him back. In his seven-years-old mind, Matt and Jess ''could'' decide to dump him again if he shows himself inadequate.
** Peter having to hide his powers from his parents cause him no small anguish, especially when the backlash makes him sick. When he finds out that Kilgrave had powers, it just makes his fears worse.
