The Schnee family used to own their own planet and the garden of their mansion had it's own mini-mansion according to Weiss. Angel, despite no longer being with Hyperion, siphoned a few hundred billion dollars in seed money to start her own business. Oh, and she also legally owns the '''entire planet of Pandora'''.

* HandicappedBadass: Maria may be a blind woman who needs robotic-eyes to see, but she's pretty fucking surgical with a shotgun. Even after getting an Insta-Youth, she doesn't regrow her eyes, so she's still blind and still maintains her combat prowess.

** Angel makes Weiss look tame by comparison. Her father kept her locked up and used her as a means of taking over Hyperion and deprived her of any genuine love and affection. It's shown that she ''really'', '''really''' hates her father and plots his death with her every waking moment.

* SmugSnake: Jacques seriously thought he could get away with screwing over Handsome ''friggin'' Jack. Guess how well that turns out for him?[[labelnote:Hint]]He gets his tongue cut out.[[/labelnote]]

* DenserAndWackier: The humor and mayhem of ''Borderlands'' makes the story much more goofy and over-the-top than canon ''RWBY'' ever was. Almost every character, with few exceptions, has a few screws loose and BlackComedy is rife in the setting.

* VaginaDentata: Lampshaded by Jaune when he's running away from a swarm of rakk.

* AdaptationalBadass: In addition to their Aura, weapons, and fighting skills, characters from ''RWBY'' get the ''Borderlands'' treatment and are way more badass than their canon selves, which is combined with AgeLift since they're all fully licensed Huntresses from the get-go and not just students. Vice versa for major ''Borderlands'' characters as they now have Aura and Semblance.
** Team RWBY as a whole are far more combat savvy than they were in the series. Ruby is a Siren with all the power that implies, Yang is a notorious bounty hunter, Weiss has a combat drone alongside already having a firm grasp on her summoning abilities, and Blake is far more effective on her own to the point of surviving two years on a murderous island by herself with a pretty high body-count of the island's creatures.
** Bandits are often fighting alongside/bonded with Grimm due to being connected via their masks and are also heavily amplified as a result.
** Jaune is a native to Pandora, and has survived living there his entire life. He's still a ButtMonkey, but he's a much better fighter.
** Pyrrha, in addition to being a champion tournament fighter, also has multiple cybernetic enhancements as well.
** Handsome Jack was easily one of the biggest baddies in the ''Borderlands'' universe, but much of his time and resources were dedicated to opening the Vault on Pandora and his victories were either against bandits or when he caught his enemies off-guard. Here, he's waging war with the other corporations such as Atlas, and according to Ironwood, ''he's winning''.
** Willow never showed any combat skills in canon, though she was clever enough to have security cameras all over the house to catch her husband red-handed. Here, she's pretty deadly with her father's battle-axe and knows her way around a fight.
** After being given an Insta-Youth, Maria is restored to her physical prime.
** Gaige not only gets the ''RWBY'' benefits of Aura and Semblance, but she's also got more robots to summon to her aide besides Deathtrap and is working on making her own personal robot army.
** Penny was already a powerful robot (doubly so after her upgrades), but here, she's an '''artificial Siren'''.

* WhamLine: A downplayed example, but Handsome Jack calls Ozpin 'Ozma' just before ending his conversation with him, confirming that he knows the truth about Oz.

** In the games, Handsome Jack and Angel by extension were never given a last name. Here, according to the author, their last name is Butler.

* CastFullOfGay: All of the primary pairings for the story are same-sex relationships, such as Ruby/Weiss, Blake/Yang, and Angel/Gaige. Beyond those and canon examples from ''Borderlands'', it's confirmed that Willow used to be in a relationship with Aurelia Hammerlock.

* EvilIsPetty: Jack sends his death squads after Weiss not due to anything like SinsOfTheFather, but because she has a special drone that has Hyperion programming and is just killing her for shits and giggles along the way. To top it all off, he gives her a bounty price of...fifty dollars and a high five from one of his body doubles. On top of even that, he has his robots do a lot of degrading things to the SDC homeworld like tea-bag the statue of Nicholas Schnee.

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Every corporation either has a few or are being run by these kinds of people. Handsome Jack and Jacques being the biggest examples. Corporate owners can practically kill anyone who gets in their way at any time and see no repercussions.
