* ''Literature/TheBerenstainBearsBigChapterBooks'': Done twice in ''The Berenstain Bears and the Ghost of the Auto Graveyard'':
** Too-Tall may be a bully and a jerk, but he ''begs'' Brother and co. not to tell the cops they found stolen cars on his father's property (which had been hidden there by the real thieves), because it could ruin Two-Ton's business and get the whole family in trouble if he gets investigated by the police. Later, when he sees the actual culprits out in the yard, he rushes out to help his mom and sister, though it turns out they don't ''need'' his help (and he manages to get lost on the way there anyway).
** When the cubs find a bound and gagged Ralph Ripoff and remove the gag, his first word is "Squawk!", much to the cubs' surprise. Ralph has to explain that both he and Squawk, his pet parrot, have been tied up for over a day, and that he's more worried about whether the bird is all right than himself.

* ''Literature/TheBoneWars'': Algernon is a racist who robs and sabotages his rival fossil hunters. He treats his son with cold contempt at the best of times, has him beaten for calling out Algernon’s hypocrisy, and compares Julian to a mosquito that may be annoying but isn't worth expending energy or concern over. However, in his final scene, [[spoiler:he is horrified when Julian is in danger of being killed by a bomb that he planted to kill Thad and runs out of cover yelling for Julian to get away from the burning stick of dynamite. This one moment of acting like a real father ends up getting him killed when his less scrupulous henchman prepares to shoot Julian, and Julian impulsively throws the bomb in their direction in self-defense.]]

Sharon let Rachael (who grows up to be a less cold-blooded carbon copy of Sharon) crash with her sometimes. Ten years after Sharon's death, Rachael returns to the apartment due to a drug trip messing with her memories and making her think it is still a place where she's welcome. In the present, James communicates with Thomas's spirit, with Thomas sometimes speaking through Damien Karras's body as well, showing that Thomas returns James's love for him. [[spoiler:When their father dies offscreen, James decides he has no more reason to murder, and so he begs Kinderman to believe that he really is the Gemini Killer, because otherwise, Thomas refuses to pass on, and James doesn't want to go on without him.
