*''Anime/IeNakiKoRemi''
** [[spoiler: Jérôme sold Remy off because he deemed her a financial burden, but she's actually of noble blood. Had he kept Remy and raised her, Mrs. Milligan would have compensated him handsomely for his kindness.]]
** [[spoiler: Early in the series, Mrs. Milligan offers to adopt Remy, but she's satisfied with Vitalis. It's only after Vitalis dies that Remy finds out that Milligan is her real mother.]]

* In the [[Manga/TheLegendOfZeldaAkiraHimekawa manga adaptation]] of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOracleGames'', when Jhovan tries to press Link into joining the circus troupe permanently, Din scolds him for trying to decide Link's life for him -- he's aiming to become a knight (with a great deal of reluctance and almost entirely due to his grandfather's insistence) after all!

* ''Literature/MyNextLifeAsAVillainessAllRoutesLeadToDoom'': In Season 2, Catarina is forced to play a villainess in a Cinderella-esque stage play when the actress is unable to do so. She finds herself in a pickle when she can't remember her lines, so she ad libs using lines she remembers from the original Catarina in her Fortune Lover game. Both her friends and the audience are ''enamoured'' with her performance, and the irony comes from the fact that she's acting the role she was originally destined to be, as opposed to being loved by everyone for her kindhearted current self.

*** And then you have the scene where Shinji and Asuka kiss. [[WordOfGod Asuka liked Shinji]] and she wanted to kiss him, but she treated it like a game to waste time in case he was going to reject her bysaying she was bored and pinching his nose. Since Shinji stood still, gasping for air instead of kissing her back or hugging her, she thought he had rejected her and ran off. The sad thing is [[HeroesWantRedheads Shinji DID like Asuka]], but because she was treating it like a game, he did not think she liked him back and he did not dare to do anything. So instead of getting them closer, their kiss made Shinji feel worse about himself and contributed to Asuka's breakdown (that scene played during her MindRape).

* ''Manga/LuckyStar'': This is PlayedForLaughs during a flashback to when Konata was just born, with Kanata hoping that her daughter won't inherit her [[OlderThanTheyLook short height]] or her husband Soujirou's {{Otaku}} personality. Unfortunately for Kanata, it's already been established that Konata ended up inheriting ''both'' of those traits.

* ''Manga/GoodNightWorld'': When asked about his ''[[FictionalVideoGame PLANET]]'' activities by another member of his family, Asuma claims that he's an occasional player and merely searching for a friend he wants to bring back to the real world. The reason the other family member is asking in the first place? They saw Asuma's avatar AAAAA on his computer and are testing the waters to see if it's a good idea to tell Asuma that they have been part of the same in-game FamilyOfChoice without knowing it. In other words, Asuma is unknowingly lying to one of the three people who are able to know he's doing just that.
