Although it was due to be released in January 2023, the initial announcement was followed up with absolutely no updates, and the controversial Warner Bros. Discovery merger put a damper on hopes that the reboot would happen. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was revealed in November 2022 that HBO had scrapped the new ''Degrassi''. However, while [[CommonKnowledge many still believe it to be cancelled for good]], both WildBrain and Linda Schuyler have said that there are still plans to make it happen; in an August 2023 podcast interview, Schuyler mentioned that there was a new pitch in the works, but mentioned that because it required an American partner, plans were greatly affected by the then-ongoing Hollywood strikes, meaning that while not cancelled, production is still in limbo.
