* CharacterClassSystem: There are four (technically, 5) classes: Fighters, who revolve around dealing [[MightyGlacier or taking]] as much damage as possible by any means, [[WhiteMage Supports]], who have non-damaging abilities that primarily benefit their team or hinder the enemy, [[TheMinionMaster Summoners]], whose abilities involve summoning minions, and Oddball, the MechanicallyUnusualClass. A subset of Oddball is Duo, which is a character that has another companion character they cannot be played without, who often have [[CombinationAttack abilities that directly synergize with each other.]]

* CrystalDragonJesus: The Four Gunmen are this, combined with a subtle dose of TheFourHorsemen.

* LEGOGenetics: The Skumm nanobot has achieved sentience, allowing to harness its conspicuous body-melding powers (which primarily includes re-writing DNA) to [[BodyHorror transform humans into repulsive monsters]]. The fact that it's [[TheSymbiote bringing a rather nasty mutated fungal infection]] along for the ride doesn't help.

** As time passes (or more specifically, every 15 turns), [[TierSystem more powerful weapons, armor and gadgets]] begin to appear in the shops. The [[ArmsDealer shopkeepers]] didn't expect a war to break out in their homelands, and as the war escalates, they seek to earn a profit by obtaining more advanced weaponry to sell to the warring teams. Thus, every 15 turns, a new arms shipment arrives at the shop, and the shopkeepers use the money earned from this more expensive merchandise to buy even more powerful equipment.
* GreaterScopeVillain: [[spoiler: OZYSIS, a highly advanced [[GreyGoo mass of nanomachines not unlike the Skumm]], is this for the entire game. It is the entire reason why the [[CrapsackWorld events of the game]] are happening in the first place. It killed the Four Gunmen, plunging America into a state of chaos and thus destroying the US Military in the resulting anarchy (the only thing keeping order in the world until then), it propagated the ideas for the Skumm nanobots into its inventor's brain, it disguised itself as the "corrupt investors" who stole Jonnyscout's ideas for the Cybrogs and sloppily mass-produced them to deliberately perpetrate a [[TurnedAgainstTheirMasters massive uprising]], and finally, it was the being who murdered H.U.M.M.U.S's president, kicking off the war. It is almost always invisible, formless, and is not present for most of the gameplay, save for [[LeakingCanOfEvil a select few items.]]]]
