Eliassen quit school in the eighth grade for personal reasons, strongly influenced by Music/PinkFloyd's ''Music/TheWall'' and [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jens_Bj%C3%B8rneboe Jens Bjørneboe]]'s ''[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonas_%28novel%29 Jonas]]''. He began in advertising and worked as a freelance illustrator in Konk, Semic etc. He moved to Oslo at age of eighteen and worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines. Elissen's drawing technique is varied, since 1994 he has used digital illustration software on UsefulNotes/{{Mac}} computers.

His fantasy series Phenomena has sold more than 100 000 copies since the first book was published in 2002. He has been awarded the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affair First Book Prize, and thousands of children voted him the winner of the Ark Prize in 2002.
