In 2002, Noggin split its lineup into two age groups: a daytime block and a {{watershed}} nighttime block. The daytime block was aimed at younger children. The nighttime block, called The N (standing for "The Noggin"), aired tween and teen shows. A few older-skewing shows that had previously aired on the daytime block shifted their timeslots to air during The N.

In its first few years, Noggin's cable lineup had two components: educational shows made specially for the brand, and reruns from Sesame and Nick's existing libraries. The original productions were aimed at tweens and usually had interactive components, letting viewers submit content through Noggin.com and see it live on the channel. In 2002, Noggin split its lineup into two groups. Teen/tween shows were moved to a new block called The N, while Noggin became a preschool brand.

The most iconic element of Noggin is its character logo: a smiling face with a visor. To represent how Noggin is "thinking" of something, the top of the head is replaced with symbols reflecting a certain theme or show. For example, during the spring, flowers pop out of it.

Noggin featured a few different hosts throughout its run. When it first became a preschool brand, it was hosted by a blue character colloquially known as "Feetface." From 2003 onwards, it [[WesternAnimation/MooseAndZee featured the animated characters]] of Moose A. Moose (a moose voiced by Paul Christie, who also voiced Stick Stickly on Nick in the Afternoon) and Zee (a mostly silent blue bird).

The original Noggin channel closed on September 28, 2009, when it was replaced by Creator/NickJr. In 2015, Noggin.com was revived and the brand was relaunched as a mobile streaming service for preschoolers.

Moose [a moose voiced by Paul Christie, who also voiced Stick Stickly on Nick in the Afternoon] and Zee [a blue bird]. The network's programming consisted mostly of recent Nick Jr. and Noggin original series.

From April 1, 2002, to December 31, 2007, the channel only aired between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern/5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central. The N will air through the rest of the channel's airtime. This timeshare practice is still in place on Dish Network.

On December 31, 2007, Noggin's sister channel, Nickelodeon GAS, left the satellite and digital cable channel lineups, and moved to the online-only [=TurboNick=]; The N took over Nick GAS's channel position after splitting from Noggin. However, Dish Network released Nick GAS from its lineup on April 24, 2009, and will split the N/Noggin channels on May 27, 2009. Noggin will be on on Channel 169 and The N on will be on Channel 181. Both channels are going 24 hours.
As of October 3, 2009 the channel listed as Noggin on FIOS has been changed to NickJr.
