Lainie Kazan (born Lainie Levine; May 15, 1940) is an American actress and singer.
She was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for ''Series/StElsewhere'', a Golden Globe Award for her role in ''Film/MyFavoriteYear'' (1982), and the 1993 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for reprising her role in the Broadway musical adaptation of ''My Favorite Year''. Kazan is also known for having played Maria Portokalos in ''Film/MyBigFatGreekWedding''.
She also understudied Music/BarbraStreisand for the lead role of Fanny Brice in ''Theatre/FunnyGirl'' (1964), and took Streisand's place in a matinee and evening performance for one day of the show's run when Streisand could not perform due to a throat condition. Comic book fans might know her for how, after Kazan posed nude for the October 1970 issue of ''Magazine/{{Playboy}}'', her photographs inspired the look of Creator/JackKirby's superheroine Big Barda from his ''ComicBook/NewGods'' series.
