By his own admission, he doesn't really like most of the characters or the plot; only the basic setting and premise. As such, he tends to throw away, derail or ignore the canon plot points ASAP while taking jabs at said plots and the characters when the chance comes up. Take a look at the number of Take Thats below for proof.
