* TheArtifact: Dagwood's fascination with model railways makes a lot more sense when taking in mind his father was a railroad tycoon.

** Daisy's litter of lookalike puppies disappeared sometime in the '70s. Dean Young has said that drawing them all was too much of a pain.

* ParentalMarriageVeto: Dagwood, heir to the Bumstead billions, was told he would be [[PassedOverInheritance cut out of his father's will]] if he married Blondie. [[MarryForLove He did anyway.]] Apparently it didn't cut off all communication; Dagwood is often shown reminiscing to Alexander and Cookie over many his other Bumstead relatives.
* {{Parody}}: The strip started off parodying the loads of "pretty girl" melodrama strips popular during TheRoaringTwenties.
* ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything: J.C. Dithers is technically in the construction business, but it's barely referred to at all. Lampshaded in recent years- [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LpSaZ0EVYcU/UqeUYoPCaDI/AAAAAAAAENM/SVdgVk55Dds/s1600/131121+Blondie.PNG one strip had Dithers and Dagwood interviewing a potential new hire]]. He promptly asks them what business they're in- he isn't sure if it's construction or something else. After he leaves, Dithers and Dagwood promptly conclude that he "asked way too many questions".

* MsRedInk: A key trait of Blondie for much of the strip's run was that she'd spend lots of money in clothes, much to Dagwood's consternation. After Chic Young's death however, she has become much more sensible, and this aspect finally disappeared once she established her catering business.

* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Up until he began getting too old for the nickname, Alexander, for years, was only referred to as "Baby Dumpling".

I added Daisy to the list of one "Running Gag" example remembering that the dog also reacts to the punchline.

** Whenever Dagwood shows the family the album and talks about any distant relatives seen in the photo, the panel that shows the punchline always shows Blondie, Alexander, Cookie, or sometimes neighbor Elmo astonished with a small line over their heads.
