* BreathWeapon: Megatron can shoot energy beams from his mouth while hopped-up on Ore-13. The Dinobots and Monsterbots have the innate ability to breath fire, though Grimlock temporarily loses the ability to do after being awakend by the Machination (due to Scorponok having disabled his weapons).

* MentalShutdown: A Zero point is a form of injury that can occur when a Transformer takes damage to the head or chest. The Spark travels through the body, turning the otherwise lifeless metal into the parts of a living Transformer; a Zero point is a microscopic fissure that opens and prevents the Spark from making its way through the body. This leaves the Transformer alive but comatose, slowly dying as the body shuts down due to loss of contact with the Spark.

A series of inter-connected mini-series published by Creator/IDWPublishing, the first in their version of the Transformers continuity. Most of these stories were written by Creator/SimonFurman. These stories tell a much different story than fans were used to, where the war between Autobots and Decepticons is more of a cold war, Cybertron has been abandoned, and Earth is not the frontline but an mostly unimportant dirt-ball, that is until the Decepticons find an all-new fuel source, one that could give them the edge.

Not an example. The Reapers appear in Spotlight: Sixshot which explains who they are, what they want and why they want Sixshot to join them.

* DiabolusExNihilo: The Reapers seemingly show up for no other reason to give Sixshot reason to turn on Megatron. They are quickly disposed of and when they are no one knows who they were or where they came from. Even the dialogue had between Megatron and Blitzwing seems to lampshade this.
-->Megatron: "Who are they?"
-->Blitzwing: "We don't know Megatron."
-->Megatron: "What do they want?"
-->Blitzwing: "Er, Ditto."

* EasilyElected: After the events of All Hail Megatron, the Autobots are stranded on Earth after Optimus Prime foolishly decides to remain out of guilt for not stopping the Decepticons sooner. Optimus further compounds his poor decision-making by resigning as Autobot leader and surrendering to the humans in an attempt to show not all Cybertronians are bad. The Autobots hold an election to choose a new leader, and to his surprise Bumblebee (who up until this point had never shown any sort of leadership skill or interest) is chosen, allegedly because he's so friendly almost everyone likes him. Cliffjumper bitterly observes that that means that it wasn't so much an election as it was a popularity contest.

* CowardiceCallout: In "Spotlight: Megatron", Megatron is repaired and revived following his defeat at the end of ComicBook/TransformersAllHailMegatron, only to find that in his absence Starscream has essentially driven the Decepticons into the ground and turned an army that was on the verge of wiping out the Autobots into a miserable rabble, so desperately short on supplies they've resorted to cannibalizing each other for spare parts and Energon. During his TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to a broken Starscream, Megatron points out the most disgusting thing about the whole affair is how Starscream is just too much of a coward to actually try to improve things other than token and vague commands to Shockwave and Soundwave. This finally reignites some sort of fire in Starscream, who begins fighting back.

* HybridizationPlot: In the Ultra Magnus Spotlight, Scorponok is introduced as an amoral MadScientist interested only in the advancement of technology, leading him to blithely ignore the Tyrest Accord an accord signed by both Autobots and Decepticons forbidding the sharing of technology with outside races, at least partially out of fear the technology will be turned on them. A recurring theme with his research is the value of hybridization, taking two different species and creating a hybrid with the strengths and advantages of both. When Magnus confronts him on Nebulous, Scorponok's collaborator Zarak is shown to have been modified with Cybertronian tech, and this leads Scorponok to develop Headmaster technology on Earth where humans are modified and given the ability to control lifeless Transformer bodies as their heads. Scorponok's endgame is eventually revealed to be attempting to find a way to use organic reproduction methods (which he finds very quick) to bolster the slowly dying Cybertronian race.

* MistakenDeathConfirmation: When Optimus Prime confronts Megatron during the Escalation mini-series, he's overwhelmed by the Decepticon leader's Ultra-Energon-boosted strength. Megatron is crushing Optimus' Spark with his bare hands when he's distracted by Optimus' drone Roller, and when he turns back to Optimus he sees that his Spark chamber is now empty, apparently extinguished from the damage. What he couldn't know is that Optimus used the momentary distraction to shunt his higher brain functions to his Combat Deck, allowing his main body to 'die' while his mind remained functional within the Combat Deck. The other Autobots attack Megatron to avenge Optimus, which also inadvertently prevents Megatron from noticing that Optimus' "corpse" hasn't begun turning gray as most famously seen in WesternAnimation/TransformersTheMovie, when Transformers expire their bodies lose colour and turn gray. This buys time for Optimus' main body's auto-repair functions to kick in and repair some of the inflicted damage, enough for him to return to combat and help bring down Megatron.

* NeutralInNameOnly:
** In the backstory of IDW's original Transformers continuity, it's revealed that Tyrest was a highly revered believer of law and order who unsuccessfully tried to broker a peace agreement between the Autobots and Decepticons. Despite this failure, he managed to at least convince both sides to sign the Tyrest Accord, which forbade sharing of Cybertronian technology with alien races. He was made Chief Justice for this, but despite his title implying he ought to be neutral he continued to identify himself as an Autobot for most of the Autobot-Decepticon war. Despite this, he was so scrupulous in his dealings that the Decepticons as well as alien races who otherwise despised the Transformers offered him tremendous respect. Sadly, his IncorruptiblePurePureness was also his undoing: becoming aware that the Autobots had several war criminals in their midst but were keeping it quiet until the war was over in order to avoid crippling morale so went against his desire for truth and honesty it drove him insane.
** Similarly, Omega Supreme is described during the post-war period as being viewed as an ancient protector of Cybertron, long before the Autobots and Decepticons even existed as factions. In his first appearance he's shown to be hiding out on a personal asteroid and not an active participant in the Autobot-Decepticon war (though in a flashback he's shown to be one of the Transformers who attempted to stop Thunderwing). Despite this, he apparently acts as an advisor to Optimus Prime due to just how old he is and how much he knows. In ComicBook/TransformersAllHailMegatron it's mentioned that the Decepticons sent an entire army to kill him during the Surge, but all this did was convince him to outright join the Autobots.
** When the war ends and Megatron is put on trial, Optimus Prime assumes the role of Chief Justice for the duration. Megatron protests at the idea of his nemesis being the judge at his trial (since, after all, Optimus is the leader of the Autobots), but Optimus wins over most of the planet by being scrupulously neutral. When a group of Decepticons attack the trial in an attempt to rescue Megatron, Optimus even refuses to join in the defense because of his position as judge, until Ultra Magnus makes a formal request for the Chief Justice to assist in returning order to the court.
