''Groot'' is a six-issue 2015 miniseries about...[[TitleCharacter Groot]].
[[Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy Can you guess why]] [[EnsembleDarkhorse it came into existence]]?
On a road, er, space trip to Earth, Rocket Raccoon and Groot run into some bumps, including their transport blowing up, space sharks, incompetent Skrulls, and bounty hunters. Said bounty hunters are after Groot for his high bounty (somehow even higher than Rocket's), and events forces Groot and Rocket apart. Now, Groot must travel the Marvel Cosmos in order to save his best friend, running into some familiar and unfamiliar characters along the way.
The series was written by Jeff Loveness and illustrated by Brian Kesinger, with cover art by Declan Shalvey of ''ComicBook/MoonKnight'' and ''ComicBook/{{Injection}}'' fame.
!!I am Tropes:
* AlienAbduction: The Groots of Planet X have been coming to Earth for some time to kidnap people for experimentation.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Groot was the smallest and kindest of Planet X's ''Flora colossus'' and was thus barely minded by the others.
* CompositeCharacter: Groot is his movie counterpart's kindness combined with his comic version's hidden intelligence.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers: One of the Skrulls Groot encounters forgot he was a Super Skrull, and thus had the firepower to defend his friends.
* HeroicBSOD: When Groot's tracker, which was leading him to Rocket, loses power, the big guy screams in rage.
* TheIdealist: Groot is almost nothing but optimism.
* ImagineSpot: Groot hallucinates a world where everybody is Groot.
* MythologyGag: A panel in Issue 6 is a direct recreation of ''Tales To Astonish'' #13
* NoodleIncident: Groot somehow has a higher bounty than Rocket.
* OhCrap:
** While he's being taken, Rocket yells for Groot to tell everyone he can about the abduction. Groot sadly reminds him of the [[PokemonSpeak obvious]]. Rocket immediately realizes his mistake.
** Everyone who's not Rocket when Groot absorbs all the energy in a solar grenade and transforms into a giant.
* OriginsEpisode: Two of them. The first is how Groot and Rocket met while in prison. The second is Groot's own origin detailing his exile from Planet X.
* PaperThinDisguise: The three Skrulls are ''terrible'' at comming up with and maintaining convincing disguises. Most of the time they all disguise themselves as the exact same person.
* RestoredMyFaithInHumanity: Groot comes across Numinus in space. She's currently in a HeroicBSOD after witnessing the recent tragedies of the Marvel Universe such as [[ComicBook/AvengersDisassembled Wanda's mental breakdown]], the ComicBook/CivilWar, and [[ComicBook/AvengersVsXMen Dark Phoenix Cyclops killing Xavier]]. She questions if anything is even salvageable anymore but Groot restores her faith with three words. Of course, since this is Groot, those three words hold infinitely more meaning than they seem.
* {{Retcon}}: The Groot from ''Tales To Astonish #13'' is not the Groot that joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, rather another larger member of the species of which Guardians!Groot is the smallest and least cruel.
* RoadTripPlot: The whole premise.
* RoboRomance: The Manbot and A.P.E.
-->'''Rocket''': I give it a month, tops.
* ShesNotMyGirlfriend: Once Rocket hears that Groot is visiting Earth to see a woman named Hannah, Rocket assumes that Groot's dating her and teases him about it. [[spoiler:She's really not. She's just an old woman that Groot saved when she was a child and promised to revisit once he got the chance.]]
* ShoutOut: "[[AC:Help! The Manbot has fallen and can't get up!]]"
* StoryBreakerPower: Why the Silver Surfer only appears for one issue and is then never seen again. Lampshaded by Rocket.
-->'''Rocket''': What do you mean you ''had'' the Silver Surfer? Where ''is'' he???
-->'''Groot''': I am...Groot.
-->'''Rocket''': WHY DID YOU DITCH THE SILVER FLARKING SURFER?!
* TakeThat: [[Franchise/{{Superman}} On a doomed planet, a scientist is preparing to put his son into a rocketship to save him from their world's destruction]]. Then Rocket and Groot show up to steal the rocket and the scientist is reprimanded by his wife for not bothering to create [[FridgeLogic a backup ship that could hold all three of them]].
* WindsOfDestinyChange: Numinus. Too bad she sucks at it.
* WouldHurtAChild: Rocket has no qualms about stealing a rocketship from a baby and leave it to die on an exploding planet.

* BigGuyLittleGuy: The big guy to Rocket Raccoon's little guy.
* CharacterisationMarchesOn: In ''[[{{ComicBook/Annihilation}} Annihilation: Conquest]]'' and the earlier issues of the series, he was capable of saying other things than "I am Groot". During Star-Lord's miniseries, he was also a ''colossal'' jerk (think Doctor Doom, but in tree form). He mellowed out after that. This is likely because when he was first introduced to modern audiences, he was intended to be the same "Groot" who had ''attacked'' Earth in one of Marvel's early pre-Comicbook/FantasticFour "[[{{Kaiju}} giant monster]]" comics. After he'd developed into a more sympathetic character, it was [[RetCon heavily implied]] that he is ''not,'' in fact, the same being that attacked Earth, but merely another member of the same species.
* DeusExitMachina: Generally regarded as the team's heaviest hitter, Groot was absent from the team's official foundation as he was still recovering from his sacrifice in ''Annihilation: Conquest''. Likewise, whenever he needs to be written out for drama they simply have him make a slow recovery from a prior battle.
* TheExile: Banished from his home planet after A) killing another member of his species to defend a maintenance mammal it was brutalizing, and B) releasing a human subject that was kidnapped for scientific purposes.
* FakeKing: [[spoiler:He's not actually a king.]]
* GeniusBruiser: He is apparently quite smart and eloquent, we just can't understand what he's saying. He's also got a fantastic right hook.
* GentleGiant: Big as a tree and a pretty friendly guy.
* GlassCannon: In Bendis stories he gets destroyed easily.
* HealingFactor: A very impressive one. Groot can, depending on the circumstances, regenerate lost limbs and even his entire body within seconds of being destroyed. Though going from a single splinter usually takes much longer and requires water.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Rocket.
* TheIdealist: Groot is almost nothing but optimism.

During Star-Lord's miniseries, he was also a Super Skrull, and thus ''colossal'' jerk (think Doctor Doom, but in tree form).
