* ContinuitySnarl: Issue 100 still sees the team fighting the London branch of the Hellfire Club while Cyclops, Phoenix, Archangel, Psylocke, and Cannonball surprise Moira with a visit to get the Xavier Protocols to deal with ComicBook/{{Onslaught}}, which was set up by ''Uncanny X-Men'', Vol 1. #335 -- which also showed the team and Moira learning about Xavier's breakdown and Moira knowing the X-Men were about to come to get the Protocols.

** Something of an epidemic of this in the early days of the book, such as Shadowcat having her powers disrupted so solidifying took a supreme effort. Another example seemed to be for the sake of making things easier on the writer, which was Nightcrawler having a harder time teleporting so he had to rely on it less.

** Something of an epidemic of this in the early days of the book, such as seemingly because of the potential number of incidents of StoryBreakerPower the roster provided. Examples include the potency of Captain Britain's powers shrinking, or Shadowcat having her powers disrupted so solidifying took a supreme effort. Another example seemed to be for the sake of making things easier on the writer, which was Nightcrawler having a harder time teleporting as he was feeling his age a bit, so he had to rely on it less.

* CruelMercy: After defeating the Warwolves, the team are faced with the question of what to do with them. Rachel advocates simply killing them, Brian and Nightcrawler feel they can't. Kitty suggests sticking them in the London zoo to be gawked at, because she feels killing them was too ''nice''.

* BoxedCrook: The series ends with Lionheart as one, repaying her assisting Albion with working for the British government, but as a consolation prize she gets to tell her children she's alive again.
* ButNowIMustGo: Dane Whitman hangs around with the team for a few issues, but leaves after he realizes the Ebony Sword he's carrying is a fake, and goes looking for the real one.
* ClothesMakeTheSuperman: Albion's backed up by an army of goons, mostly ex-Mutants depowered on M-Day, given suits that make each of them a FlyingBrick.

* DwindlingParty: The Shadow X-Men, through the final arc. First Cyclops (beheaded), then Beast (stabbed), Angel (swarmed by Albion's goons), Jean (HeroicSacrifice) and Iceman (despair).

* FailedASpotCheck: One morning Peter Wisdom comes in, has a chat with Juggernaut, pours himself a cup of coffee, and ''then'' notices the mysterious blond woman in the room. The minute he does, she draws a gun, though mercifully it's just Sage in disguise.
* HelpfulHallucination: A Claremont favorite, and it comes up after TJ has her stroke, with a hallucination of a healthier her taunting TJ as she recovers.

--> '''Sage:''' Shhhh... Not so loud. You'll spoil my little secret. *proceeds to kick his ass*

to:

--> '''Sage:''' Shhhh... Not so loud. You'll spoil my little secret. *proceeds ''(proceeds to kick his ass*ass)''
* MoreDeadlyThanTheMale: Of the Shadow X-Men, their Jean is more vile and sadistic than the others.

Added DiffLines:

* NarratingTheObvious: When Claremont's at the helm. Less so with Tieri.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: Sage, naturally, is apparently just so great she can block out Nocturne's possession powers or override it whenever she likes. Somehow.

Added DiffLines:

* PointOfDivergence: In Albion's universe, World War 1 never stopped.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Retcon}}: The Ebony Blade is stated during the time travel arc to now be much older than previously stated, and Sir Percy is not the first to wield it, just the latest.
* ScrewYouElves: One of Albion's motivations. He was offered the same choice as Brian, the sword or the amulet, and chose the sword. Roma immediately declared he'd failed the SecretTestOfCharacter and was about to take the powers back when Merlyn overrode her, but not before Brion was made absolutely furious at them for their sheer callousness, both at the condition of his world and the notion they'd offer someone power and take it away just like that.
* ShowingOffTheNewBody: When Nocturne briefly takes over Sage's body, she admires 'herself' in the mirror and starts gushing about how beautiful Sage is, before taking her bod out for a night on the town, switching into clothes that are more her style.

Added DiffLines:

* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Dazzler with the Shadow X-Men, on account of the fact they ''killed'' her.

Added DiffLines:

** In the first arc, a bunch of Warwolves menace the team, but manage to escape. They're never heard from again.

Added DiffLines:

* WorthyOpponent: Albion's opinion of the team, even as they're fighting.

* SmokingIsEdgy: When Warren Ellis assumed the title in the 90s, he introduced British spy Pete Wisdom. He used to be shown smoking, and previous AudienceSurrogate, Kitty Pryde, even dated him for a time, maybe to look like a "grown-up girl" and forget her literal childhood crush Colossus, from the X-Men's main team. Later, in his own Marvel MAX mini-series ''Wisdom'' (2006), he regains his smoking habit.

* LegionOfDoom: Attempted. Three major villain factions appear during the title's run: the Shadow-X, agent Scicluna (independent agent from Black Air) and the rogue Captain Britains Albion and Lionheart. In issues #18-19, they forge an alliance, which falls apart as soon as next issue.

* BouquetToss: In issue #125, Brian and Meggan's wedding, Meggan tosses her bouquet to the assembled girls and lady guests. As usual, there is a veritable ''brawl'' to get the flowers: Psylocke (Brian's sister) ninja kicks Gatecrasher, and Cerise and Amanda Sefton duke it out for the bouquet (and Nightcrawler's heart).

General clarification on works content: The original series lasted for 10 years, being cancelled with issue #125. There was a small revival mini-series in 2001, and another homonymous title in 2004-2005, but did not involve neither Captain Britain or any of the original cast.

* BrainwashedBride: A variation; in issues #6-7, during the ''ComicBook/Inferno1988'' crossover, Rachel Summers gets a telepathic distress call from baby Nathan (the present version of Cable) and flies from England to New York to help him. She is caught in a storm of demons and changes into a mannequin from a bridal boutique. A lesser demon from Limbo, under Madelyne Pryor (The Goblin Queen)'s command, finds the Rachel mannequin wearing a bridal dress and takes her to their "wedding", which is officiated by another demon. Being a mannequin, Rachel is actually immobile and cannot move, nor speak.

After the ''ComicBook/MutantMassacre'' storyline left the X-Men broken, injured members Shadowcat and Nightcrawler were sent to Muir Island in Scotland to recuperate. As a result, they weren't with the X-Men when the team sacrificed their lives to defeat [[EldritchAbomination the Adversary]] on national TV during ''The Fall of the Mutants'' arc, and like the rest of the world, didn't know the X-Men [[DeathIsCheap got better]] afterwards. Creator/ChrisClaremont and artist Creator/AlanDavis decided to use this opportunity to put the characters into a new team that incorporated the British characters ComicBook/CaptainBritain and his MagicalGirlfriend Meggan, who had little U.S. exposure at that point but ties to the X-Men through Cap's sister Psylocke.
