The suggestion of a film has been up in the air for a while. In November 2005, the Comics Journal message boards reported that the comics would be adapted to film by French director Creator/AlexandreAja (''Film/HighTension''). In March 2006, comics news site Newsarama reported that Creator/NeilGaiman and ''Film/PulpFiction'' co-writer Creator/RogerAvary would be adapting the screenplay, and Gaiman confirmed this in a May 2006 interview with ''Magazine/TimeMagazine''. Gaiman and Avary later left the project, and it moved to Creator/{{Paramount}}, after which Creator/DavidFincher was attached as director. Fincher later abandoned the project to focus on ''Film/TheGirlWithTheDragonTattoo2011''.
