* InformedAttribute: We're told she's a great writer, when her poems are largely not very good.
** On the other side of the coin, by her own admission she is only a so-so student, but she shows herself to have pretty strong knowledge of history, pop culture, literature and vocabulary. Possibly subverted as Mr. Porter mentions that her grades started out strong and steadily slipped, indicating that it's not her intellect but her mental state that affected her ability to hand in work or try her hardest.

* BadassDecay: She TookALevelInBadass after Hannah's trial and was a righteous badass in Season 3, winning the class presidency, starting an activist group and disrupting the homecoming game. In Season 4, she begins secretly helping Bolan and supporting his security initiatives, and spends the season falling for Diego and hardly managing to outsmart Winston.

* ButNotTooBlack: Is mixed, with her father being black, and this causes some angst as she navigates making friends with more black teenagers while knowing she would be taken more seriously on the stand if she were a white girl.

Ambiguous Disorder is not a trope anymore, but a redirect to a YMMV entry.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Prone to intense bouts of emotion, hallucinates in multiple episodes, and his mother mentions him taking medication and seeing a therapist in the past. Early on in the series, he mentions that he is taking so long to listen to the tapes because he cannot listen to them for more than a few minutes at a time or he'll get panic attacks. Come season 2, he also appears to be having hallucinations of Hannah, that he has full conversations with at multiple points. In season 4, he also has multiple hallucinations of Bryce and Monty.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Prone to histrionics characteristic of borderline personality disorder, though it's largely justified due to the trauma she endures. She also may have [[{{Narcissist}} narcissistic personality disorder]], given that many people with narcissistic traits who commit suicide often leave long, detailed notes explaining how they feel that friends and family are to blame for their actions. She also seemed to develop a severe case of depression, self-hatred and intense suicidal thoughts by the time she meets with Mr. Porter, although the only thing confirmed in the show was the suicidal thoughts.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Shows some MoodSwinger tendencies, as well as symptoms of PTSD. Also has a general disregard for his own safety.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Between his uncomfortable mannerisms and interest in violence, it's clear that something is up with him that goes beyond being an awkward teenager.

* AmbiguousDisorder There's something rather off about him in Season 4. He never seemed to have a problem with Monty viciously beating him after they had sex. He also claims to love Alex despite barely knowing him and is heartbroken when they break up.

Angst What Angst is a YMMV trope so moving...

* AngstWhatAngst: Despite being a friend of Monty- implied to be a very close friend considering the amount of scenes they share together- Charlie doesn’t have any problem framing him for Bryce’s murder. Likewise, despite it becoming common knowledge in the group that Monty was a closeted gay, he doesn’t seem to show any remorse for his situation despite also not being heterosexual.

Added DiffLines:

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In the first season, Monty was a bully -but a realistic one and had plenty of moments where he wasn’t the aggressor in the situation and there were several times he had almost PetTheDog moments compared to later seasons. In one of only two fights he gets into in the entire season, Alex is the one to instigate it, despite Monty telling him to calm down. In their sole interaction in the season, he even greets Clay (albeit getting his name wrong). His final scene in the season is reminiscing and missing NiceGuy Jeff Atkins. In short, he’s a bully but one that you could easily getting their shit together by the time they graduate. By the second season, he’s terrorizing the main cast to a psychopathic degree and committing worse and worse acts that cumulate into his assault on Tyler.

Overarching Villain is now a disambig.

* OverarchingVillain: Most of the offences Hannah lists on the tapes could be tracked back to Bryce:
** Bryce is the one who circulated the photo in Justin's phone.
** He pushed Alex into contributing to the "Best/Worst" list that Bryce started, which was responsible for Alex and Jessica's breakup and Hannah and Jessica's falling out.
** It was his [[spoiler: rape of Jessica]] that made Hannah leave the party with Sheri. If Hannah had not been there Sheri may not [[spoiler: have hit the stop sign.]]
** He kept up the rumors of Hannah being easy, which lead Marcus to believe she would be.
** He kept goading Courtney to reveal that the photo was of her, resulting in her lying about Hannah being a "psycho lesbian", rather than ignoring the gossip.
** He teases Zach about Hannah yelling at him, potentially motivating the former to steal her notes in retaliation to cover up his personal embarrassment of being shut out by a girl.
** Mister Porter's tactless session with Hannah [[spoiler: right before she killed herself]] was brought on because of him [[spoiler: raping Hannah the night before.]]
** Tyler, Ryan, and Clay are the only ones on the tapes that basically have no connection to Bryce's actions.
** Even Clay is partially affected since his making out with Hannah was abruptly stopped by her because all of her previous traumas came flooding back to her mind. If Hannah hadn't stopped him, Clay wouldn't have left and Jessica probably wouldn't have been raped by Bryce.
** Season 2 also reveals that he is [[spoiler:the de-facto person in charge of the Clubhouse, a shed behind the baseball field where the team hangs out, gets wasted, and rapes girls, while taking pictures of it all as trophies/insurance.]]
** Season 2 also revealed that [[spoiler: Bryce was one of the first boys that Hannah talked to when she started going to Liberty High. And even though she agreed to go to The Clubhouse and have her picture taken, she didn't have sex with him. Bryce, who is used to getting everything he wants, resented this and his jealousy of her wanting Justin foreshadows how the bulling against her began.]]
** In Season 3, when Bryce finally listens to the tapes, Tony even tells him that every tape is his in one way or another.

He has a few sympathetic and redeeming moments such as some expansion on the abusive relationship between him and his father, the reveal he’s an insecure homosexual, a genuine relationship with Winston Williams and him showing he genuinely did care about Bryce, with even Monty mourning Bryce at his funeral. That being said he’s still a villain and continues to threaten people, beats the crap out of Winston just because he fears people will discover he’s gay from them talking and most especially he continues to taunt Tyler about raping him, refuses to apologize and shows absolutely no remorse even after being arrested for it.

She also seemed to develop a severe case of depression, self hatred and intense suicidal thoughts by the time she meets with Mr. Porter, although the only thing confirmed in the show was the suicidal thoughts.

* {{Jerkass}}: Nearly every scene featuring Pratters has him blurt out something either pretentious, outright rude, or both, and is always called out on it. In the first episode, for example, Pratters suggests that the class should stop talking about Hannah's death, claiming that it's "depressing" (for him) to hear about it every day. While his opinion is in the realm of LockedOutOfTheLoop [[spoiler:(i.e. Only a select few people at Libery High know what ''really'' happened with Hannah)]], the reaction from the class and his teacher is fairly understandable.
