* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Was originally conceived as a dramatically different character (arguably, even one completely distinct from Kate in-game). Files show that Kate's role was originally occupied by a blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman named "Grace," whose model has a different face and more buxom figure. Family photographs around the Garcia household still depict this woman, so it's likely the original character model was recycled into David's ex-wife in order to make way for Kate's character in-game. Why this was changed is unknown.

Cuckold is now on Definition Only Pages; examples in bulleted lists are not allowed. Those that focus on the husband's feelings might qualify for Emasculated Cuckold.

* {{Cuckold}}: David is married to Kate, but over time, their marriage soured, and Kate is now clearly interested in his brother Javier, even moreso now that they've spent about four years surviving together. A lot of scenes shared between David, Kate, and Javi have Kate showing obvious romantic interest in Javi, right under David's nose, and depending on player action, Javi can reciprocate. If the player picks the right choices, Javi and Kate can kiss and admit their love right in front of David, driving him into a homicidal rage.

* GayOption: A {{Downplayed}} example. The player has the option of flirting with him while playing as Javi. WordOfGod confirms that Javier is bisexual and that they're genuinely attracted to each other.

* WeakButSkilled: As a scout, Ava is supposed to quick, quiet, and observant, avoiding confrontation and violence unless it's necessary. When she's caught off-guard by a walker while crossing a bridge, she ends up falling to death. Whereas Tripp is able to just throw the walker over his shoulder. The only reason he was able to survive is because he was stronger than Ava and had more ties to conflict due to his former role as a perimeter leader in Prescott.

* AmbiguouslyAbsentParent: His and Mariana's mother is never talked about (Kate is their stepmother). We know Kate was married to David before the apocalypse, so she was out of the picture before all hell broke loose. She's mentioned briefly by Mariana, where she says her mom used to tell her bedtime stories. There's a photo in the Garcia household in episode three that features a blonde woman, with many fans assuming this was David's ex-wife. This, however, was actually a beta version of Kate (who was named Grace). It's unclear if she is supposed to be David's ex-wife, or if this is a remnant from an earlier version of the story and doesn't mean anything.
