* KnifeNut: When Clem confronts him about ripping her off he tries to pull a knife on her.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Was originally conceived as a dramatically different character (arguably, even one completely distinct from Kate in-game). Files show that Kate's role was originally occupied by a blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman named "Grace," whose model has a different face and more buxom figure. Family photographs around the Garcia household still depict this woman, so it's likely the original character model was recycled into David's ex-wife in order to make way for Kate's character in-game. Why this was changed is unknown.

* NeverMyFault: [[spoiler: Eleanor lashes out at Javi for what happened. Though as Javi can point if Tripp was killed, she was involved with Joan's plans. She merely states she never knew this was going to happen.]]

* UngratefulBastard [[spoiler: Regardless if the player spares Conrad in episode 2, keep Tripp alive by picking Ava, and/or you follow Joan's order to leave Richmond in episode 4, Eleanor would still lash out onto Javi about the calamity]].

* ArmorPiercingSlap: She delivers one to David in episode 5 when he starts using military jargon and ordering his family around like soldiers.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:Throughout episode five, she tries to make amends for letting the walkers into Richmond by at first trying to offer medical aide, and then trying to reseal the busted wall]].

* LackOfEmpathy: Toward David, to the point where one begins to wonder if she ever loved him at all. [[spoiler: By the time the events of the game happen, she's already emotionally moved on from him and wants to start anew with Javier, though if the flashbacks are any indication, [[UnwantedSpouse she was already over him for quite some time]] but was in no position to leave him. Once reunited with David in the present, she's not happy to see him, calls him out on one occasion and even gets angry at Javier for suggesting that they help him save Richmond while emphasizing that it's "not their problem", despite David still being her husband, the father of her step-child and Javier's brother. She's also coldly dismissive of David's death and encourages Javier to be the same way]].

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Feels immense, immense guilt over [[spoiler:accidentally destroying the barricade in episode four]].
* NeverFoundTheBody: [[spoiler:Potentially in episode five, depending on a number of factors. If Javi and Clementine split up at the end of episode 5 with Javi going after David and Gabe and Clem staying with Kate, then Kate and Clem will get separated by a herd. Clem will barely make it through, but you'll be unable to find Kate, and a "photo wall" funeral will be held of her three days later.]]
* NiceGirl: Aside from some snark, Kate is a good person. For the most part. She can potentially [[TookALevelInJerkass act colder]] towards Javi though in Episode 5, if he [[spoiler: rejected her love confession in Episode 4. As well, she's rather scornful toward David in general, with the heights of this being her practically rubbing in the fact that she's moved on to his brother (a boast of which almost gets Javier killed) and how coldly she reacts after finding out that David died]].

* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler: If Kate survives Episode 5 and Javi returned her affections, she asks to start a family with him.]]
* ParentsAsPeople: At the end of the day, Kate is an extremely flawed woman who honestly does love her family and tries to do the right thing by them, but is fairly immature when it comes to dealing with them. Her long-standing attraction to Javier despite being married to David, strained relationship with his kids, and her own proclivity for smoking weed especially in front of the kids makes her come as an unfit mom, something she is painfully aware of.

* ScrewThisImOutOfHere: [[spoiler:In Episode 3 Kate wants to escape Richmond, calling it "a cage". Javi can choose to try and make a run for it with her, or to stay and help David with Richmond's conflicts. If he does not decide, Kate ropes him into leaving with her.]]

* ShipTease: With Javier. How overt it is is up to the player. [[spoiler:This eventually results in a confession of love from Kate in episode 4; you can choose whether to upgrade the ship tease or whether to engage in ShipSinking instead, by either accepting or rejecting the confession.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: She's the first to notice the growing attraction between her stepson and Clementine and hopes that something will occur between them.

* UnresolvedSexualTension: It is hinted that Kate has feelings for Javier despite the fact that she is married to his brother, David. [[spoiler: This can be somewhat resolved when Javi, Clementine, and Tripp or Eleanor return to the junkyard; one of the options when helping Kate out of the truck where she and Gabe were hiding is to kiss her, something she doesn't seem to mind. It can be resolved for good in episode 4, as Kate confesses she can't be David's wife anymore, as she wants to make it work with Javi instead. You can choose whether to resolve the tension by accepting Kate's confession or by rejecting it.]]
* UnwantedSpouse: Appears to hold little affection for David, and is unsure if she misses him four years into the outbreak. [[spoiler:In episode 4 she finally confesses outright that she can't be David's wife anymore.]]

* WickedStepmother: Downplayed. She loves the kids but admits that she is fairly immature when it comes to dealing with them, having told David when they got married that she wouldn't change how she was around his kids. She is also pragmatic, which results in her denying the kids fun. ** Despite being a proud soldier, David is a coward who instead of fight to the death bravely, chooses to run away like near the ending of the season [[spoiler: and can potentially dies a coward death]].

The only reason he was able to survive is because he was stronger than Ava and had more ties to conflict due to his former role as a perimeter leader in Prescott.

A lot of scenes shared between David, Kate, and Javi have Kate showing obvious romantic interest in Javi, right under David's nose, and depending on player action, Javi can reciprocate. If the player picks the right choices, Javi and Kate can kiss and admit their love right in front of David, driving him into a homicidal rage.
