* BreakingTheCycleOfBadParenting: Wally's parents weren't the best. Their treatment of him ranged from emotionally to physically abusive, with a dose of manipulation when he became an adult. It got to the point that Wally, as a kid, would cherish his summer visits to his aunt Iris because it got him away from his parents. Once Wally became a father with twins, he was shown to be very loving and protective of them. He was even willing to confront the entire Justice League when he thought they were going to take them away.

* CasanovaWannabe: Though not his defining trait, Wally West was known to be a skirt-chaser when he first took over the role after his uncle's passing in ComicBook/TheFlash1987. In general, Wally was a manchild and this was part of it; he hit on every woman he could and while an attractive guy who was quite fun to hang out with (and thanks to being a MagneticHero, he often succeeded in being AmicableExes after the break-up), his immaturity was a constant turn-off. A big contributing factor to his CharacterDevelopment was him meeting Linda Park, who after initially disliking one another became FireForgedFriends and he developed a SingleTargetSexuality pretty much as soon as they started dating.

to:

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He was initially mostly known for being the first Flash who isn't a genius, instead being a college drop-out who had a HotBlooded temper and a childish personality. Even today, he's still the most comical Flash, the one most likely to make snarky comments and joke around, and generally acting as TheHeart. But he's also the Fastest Man Alive, being the person who has both the strongest connection to the Speed Force and the most instinctive understanding of it, and subsequently his status as TheHeart means he can use ThePowerOfFriendship to overpower the Speed Force's PowerLimiter and use it's power for speeds that would make other speedsters lose themselves to the Speed Force's pull.

* EstrogenBrigade: Wally has a fairly active fanbase of women and gay/bi men, moreso than the other Flash family, to the point the Flash fans among the Feminist Comics Blogosphere tends to be made up almost entirely of Wally fans. Wally is a MrFanservice whose tweaks to the Flash costume included it being drawn in a way that better shaded his figure, with his belt being reshaped in a way to emphasise his butt and crotch, and though he was kind of an ass early on, he's shown to be a ChivalrousPervert who, upon falling in love, becomes a very devoted and caring boyfriend. Notably, unlike many other comic book relationships where the woman is subject to MaleGaze, Linda Park is very rarely sexualised to even remotely the same level as Wally, making it apparent that EvenTheGuysWantHim.

* HenshinHero: Downplayed, but for a while he had his suit as an extension of his powers, literally forming it from Speed Force energies solidifying into material. Whether this is how his suit works still varies from writer to writer depending on, essentially, if they know/remember this is a thing, but even when it is, Wally is fully able to use his powers without forming the suit first, so the transforming is just for recognisability.

* LadykillerInLove: He is probably one of the best examples of this in DC Comics. In ComicBook/TheFlash1987, after taking on the mantle of the Flash, Wally was characterised as being a player and constant flirt, with a large number of short-term love interests. Then in comes Linda Park; at first she's a reporter who he initially disliked, but developed into VitriolicBestBuds with, soaked in UnresolvedSexualTension. Eventually, they made it official, after which he became so devoted to her that their love was enough to overpower the pull of the Speed Force, making him both a more effective hero and showing he'd give up heaven for her. Notably, years later, Linda would seemingly be killed by the Black Flash, and later still erased from existence by Abra Kadabra, and in both scenarios, he's depicted as completely ignoring Jesse Quick (his DistaffCounterpart who had unrequited feelings for him and a healthy dose of ShipTease) because he'd loved Linda so much he'd developed SingleTargetSexuality, even when he didn't remember her.

** His HeroicSelfDeprecation caused him to mentally limit himself to the speed of sound for a while.

to:

** His HeroicSelfDeprecation caused him When he became the Flash in ComicBook/TheFlash1987, he was rife with HeroicSelfDeprecation. Never being able to see himself living up to his late mentor Barry Allen's legacy, he was haunted by the nightmares of Barry being ashamed of him. As a result, he mentally limit limited himself to the speed of sound for a while.long time, and even after he overcome his fear of living up to Barry's legacy, he suppressed his speed because he didn't want to actually replace Barry by matching his speed. After the famous ComicBook/TheReturnOfBarryAllen story, he was finally able to make peace with himself and eventually surpassed all of Barry's benchmarks.
* PunchClockHero: In 'ComicBook/TheFlash1987, rather than maintain a secret identity and day job like his uncle, when he became The Flash, he tried to work out a means to make it a day job, such as taking a paycheck from ComicBook/JusticeLeagueEurope or trying to charge for his heroics. Though initially this was portrayed selfishly, especially when he was being money-hungry, he was influenced by his friend Pied Piper, a die-hard socialist who championed equal rights, to find a pragmatic but selfless approach. Wally was given a modest living wage from the city as compensation for his efforts protecting it, which meant he could spend more time doing it, rather than splitting his time working a day job. Wally was portrayed as something of a Working Class Hero, as he didn't earn too much from his heroics beyond basic living costs, and his status of having an open identity meant that people felt comfortable coming to him personally for help.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: Wally is generally distinguished among the Flash legacies for two primary factors: Firstly for being the fun one, and secondly, for being the most powerful. While all the Flashes are a PersonOfMassDestruction thanks to the sheer power the Speed Force grants, Wally pushes it to near PhysicalGod levels; he can run through time and space and even reality without outside assistance, can manipulate the speed of anything/anyone around him to either strip bullets of their momentum or grant temporary super speed to others, and is powerful enough to overwhelm devices designed to drain his powers. Its actually because of his lighthearted nature why he's able to do this; any other speedster risks running into the Speed Force if they tap into too much of its power, but Wally has mastered tethering himself to reality through ThePowerOfLove so he can use as much of it as he wants so long as he and his wife still love each other.

--> Wally is one of the few guys in comics who gets up every morning and says, “My God, I have the greatest job on Earth. I can’t wait to be Flash today.” That is core to Wally’s personality.
