* ALighterShadeOfGrey: While the series makes no secret of the Borgias' corruption and capacity for sin and violence, it also stresses that many of the other characters (including the Sforzas and the College of Cardinals) are no better - and indeed some are even worse. Additionally, the Borgias are portrayed in a more humanizing light and are shown to be self-aware of their own flaws, making it much easier to root for them, as opposed to the cardinals (who mask their own greed, corruption and lust under a veneer of piety and [[{{Hyocrite look down on Rodrigo for these very things]]), or the other warring noble houses, who are very much in it purely for themselves and are capable of being just as cruel and capricious as Rodrigo, Juan or Cesare, if not more so.

Adding Mattias to the "Allies" list!

* AllJewsArCheapskates: Downplayed. He bickers with Rodrigo over the taxes he and his people must pay in order to be allowed into Rome. Justified, as the prices Rodrigo demands are shown to be highly detrimental to their wares and what little money they still have.
