* AuthorityInNameOnly: Similarly to French Madagascar, the Germans are really the ones calling the shots on the governance of the territory. In the French Antarctica teaser, German soldiers garrison the land as a supply point for Neuschwabenland, furthered by the French government only investing the bare minimum into managing the territory.

* CommonalityConnection: Despite the various backgrounds of the French settlers, they've developed a shared identity in the struggle to survive the harsh Kerguelen Islands. This has created a unique dialect of French called Taafien, which includes slang relating to technical terms and inside jokes.
* CopeByCreating: The settlers of Port-au-Francais try to feel more at home by creating French styled establishments like a pâtisserie and a concrete chapel. Unfortunately, the French Antarctica teaser shows that such efforts do little to make the citizens feel comfortable, due to the isolation and militarization.
* CrazyPrepared: In the French Antarctic teaser, the Germans have extensively militarized the Kerguelens as an integral part of the supply chain to their claims in Antarctica. Grande Terre is an active military base with a harbor and airfield, where barbed wire litters the coasts, despite there being little risk of an actual invasion and much of the garrison being redeployed elsewhere.

* MeaningfulName: The French subculture that developed on the Kerguelen Islands, Taafien, is named after the acronym for the French name of the of the administration, the "Terres australes et antarctiques françaises".

* RichSiblingPoorSibling: Jacques and Pierre have radically different statuses in the French Antarctic teaser. Jacques is a highly respected oceanographer and celebrity beloved by every side in the Cold War for his groundbreaking marine documentaries. Meanwhile, Pierre is an washed-up, forgettable Vichy journalist, whose career has since hit a dead end.

to:

* RagTagBunchOfMisfits: The French settlers of the Kerguelen Islands, as seen in their dedicated teaser, come from a variety of backgrounds, including colonial soldiers, bureaucrats, whalers, and adventurers, in addition to the German soldiers present.
* RichSiblingPoorSibling: Jacques and Pierre have radically different statuses in the French Antarctic teaser. Jacques is a highly respected oceanographer and celebrity beloved by every side in the Cold War for his groundbreaking marine documentaries. Meanwhile, Pierre is an a washed-up, forgettable Vichy journalist, whose career has since hit a dead end.
* SettlingTheFrontier: France has laid claim to the Kerguelen Islands for centuries, but, for most of that history, there were no settlements beyond the the occasional scientist or whaler. This changed during the Scramble for Antarctica, which prompted the creation of more long-term settlements containing French and German settlers, as seen in the French Antarctica teaser.
* ShockingDefeatLegacy: During the Scramble for Antarctica, the OFN launched Operation Deep Freeze, during which the French claims in Antarctica in Adélie Land were seized. As shown in the French Antarctica teaser, this has relegated France to a secondary player in the continent, further cementing France's subjugation under Germany and declining colonial ambitions.
* ShownTheirWork: The TAAF flag was actually created in the OTL 1950's, doodled by Richert. Notably, this timeline's flag has three stars because the OTL flag's five stars represent the five Antarctic territories owned by the real-life TAAF: the Kerguelen, Crozet, Scattered, St. Paul and Amsterdam Islands, and Adélie Land. However, since the OFN seized Adélie Land in the French Antarctic teaser, it would make less sense for the flag to have five stars, so it has three to represent the number of stars on Richert's uniform instead.
* SiblingTeam: The French government has endorsed and funded the latest documentary by Jacques to film the ecosystem of the Kerguelen Islands. However, due to a lack of trust for the Anglophile, they also insisted that his staunchly pro-fascist brother, Pierre, go along to keep an eye on him in the French Antarctica teaser. Pierre never imagined his dying career to land him in Antarctica, but he will do so for France and his brother.
* SmallSecludedWorld: In its dedicated teaser, the French Antarctic administration rules over a collection of islands and rocks in the Antarctic Ocean that are barely inhabited and represent some of the last untouched ecosystems on Earth. The capital, Port-au-Francais, only has a few hundred semi-permanent residents. However, the remoteness is also Exploited by the Einheitspakt to film a documentary about it, which would truthfully be a PropagandaPiece to downplay their Antarctic military ventures.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Many of the French settlers on the Kerguelen Islands are frustrated by the domineering German military presence, which has disrupted the natural environment and made Port-aux-Francais more German than French, as seen in the French Antarctic teaser. The only people who aren't that upset are the whalers who have made a fortune on the islands and the oceanographers out for exploration.

* JadedProfessional: According to the French Antarctica teaser, Richert once enjoyed ruling over the Kerguelen Islands with its isolated and natural environment, when he was first appointed in September 1955. The aftermath of the Snipe War in 1958 led to the Scramble for Antarctica, which resulted in the rapid militarisation of the islands on behalf of the Germans, much to Richert's frustration.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Subverted. Despite not being in a position to reassert French claims over Antarctica proper in their dedicated teaser, Richert stills hopes to one day reclaim Adélie Land from the OFN.
* PetTheDog: Richert tries to make the most of his depressing situation in the French Antarctica teaser by protecting the French settlers from German dominance and assisting the Cousteau brothers in their documentary, the latter of which brings Richert some minor relief.

to:

* RedBaron: Richert is nicknamed the "Prefect of the Penguins" because there were few actual people inhabiting Antarctica, at least until the Germans arrived in the French Antarctica teaser.

* PunchClockVillain: Under pressure from Pierre and Germany in the French Antarctic teaser, Jacques is tasked with filming his next documentary in the Kerguelen Islands and downplaying Germany's military ventures there. It is unclear if he took the job for fame, money, or a favor to Pierre, a question that he has yet to answer to the press.

* PunchClockVillain: AmbiguousSituation: Under pressure from Pierre and Germany in the French Antarctic teaser, Jacques is tasked with filming his next documentary in the Kerguelen Islands and downplaying Germany's military ventures there. It is unclear if he took the job for fame, money, or a favor to Pierre, a question that he has yet to answer to the press.

* ForeignCultureFetish: Jacques is described by his teased biography as an Anglophile, which draws suspicion on to him from the French government.
* LegacySeeker: One Discussed reason for why he is crafting a documentary in the Kerguelen Islands, as shown in the French Antarctica teaser, is so that he can add another crowning piece to his legendary filmography.
* LovedByAll: Jacques films and books on marine life has made him universally beloved international celebrity across all factions of the Cold War, as shown in the French Antarctica teaser. However, the French government wants to exploit this for propagandistic purposes, which risks ruining his carefully crafted reputation.

* NatureLover: Like in OTL, Jacques is an adventurer and oceanographer who likes to film the natural world and conduct marine experiments. He has also invented various exploratory and photographic techniques for these purposes.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: In the French Antarctic teaser, it's suspected by some that Jacques took up the gig to film the Kerguelen Islands because he's being paid a lot for it, ignoring the propagandistic purposes of diverting attention away from Germany's militarization of Antarctica.

* BetrayalInsurance: While the French government approves of Jacques' filming of the Kerguelen Islands, they do not trust him due to his Anglophilia and rumored connections to the resistance. Thus, in the French Antarctica teaser, Pierre is sent to be the betrayal insurance, watching over him and making sure he doesn't do anything treasonous.
* LesCollaborateurs: Pierre was an enthusiastic supporter of the Vichy regime since the moment it was formed. Once a communist in his youth, he turned to fascism in the 1930s and started writing anti-Semitic and hardline articles, which won him approval from the new regime.
* DeadEndJob: Pierre was once a rising star within the French State, but his career has come to a screeching halt with his reassignment to the Kerguelen Islands. However, as shown in the French Antarctic teaser, Pierre will adhere to his duty to France and his family.

* ImmoralJournalist: Pierre is a staunch fascist, anti-Semite, and collaborator who wrote journalistic pieces and used it as a springboard to have a career in the French State. His well-proven loyalty in journalism is the reason why he is sent to the Kerguelen Islands in the French Antarctic teaser: to keep an eye on his less loyal brother.

* TheReliableOne: Despite not being as famous as Jacques, Pierre is considered more reliable by the French State. In the French Antarctic teaser, they trust him enough to monitor his brother in the Kerguelen Islands and keep filming the documentary that will serve the regime's propagandistic purposes.
* SuccessfulSiblingSyndrome: Pierre is the older brother to world-renowned filmmaker Jacques Cousteau. Pierre's teased biography hints at some resentment that he wound up in a dead-end career, while Jacques was never prosected for alleged ties to the resistance and became famous, all thanks to being protected by his sibling. Matters are made worse when Pierre is sent to the Kerguelen Islands to watch over Jacques, regarding it as a bleak future on the a frigid island.

* LetNoCrisisGoToWaste: Taking advantage of German’s inability to send supplies after the start of the German civil war, the Joint Chiefs of Staff will approve Operation Southern Cross, a joint OFN military operation to capture territory from Neuschwabenland with help from Brazil and Uruguay. How much territory they capture will depend on how well-prepared they are.

->In-Game Biography Prefect of the Penguins. A humorous epithet reflecting the near-absence of people in the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. Seals, whales, albatrosses and the ubiquitous penguins are the territory's primary citizens, or at least, that's how things used to be. Much to the chagrin of Xavier Richert, the first administrator of the overseas territory. Appointed in September, 1955, the honeymoon years of Richert's administration passed by with little disturbance, despite the eyes of the world slowly turning to the south.\\\
The Snipe War of 1958 between Argentina and Chile accelerated the scramble for Antarctica and resulted in rapid militarization. The Kerguelen Islands became a waystation for Germans and their materiel flowing into Neuschwabenland. The few French bureaucrats and citizens still remaining in the territory watched in shock as hundreds of soldiers took up permanent residence in defence of this new logistic corridor. Richert's primary responsibility is ensuring his people are as far out of the way of the Germans as possible. Recently, he has been given the task of babysitting Jacques and Pierre Cousteau's documentary efforts as they film across the region for broadcast within the Pakt.\\\
This brief distraction has been a relief to Richert, who longs to be Prefect of the Penguins once more.

->In-Game Biography Inventor, adventurer, diver, oceanographer, sailor, spy, film director, and worldwide celebrity: in many ways the life of Jacques Cousteau seems more fantasy than fact. Following a mystery-shrouded career in French naval intelligence, with the help of his hardline-fascist brother's connections in the Vichy political circles, Jacques was able to overcome rumors of wartime resistance connections and receive government support to finance his groundbreaking marine experiments and eventual film career. Cousteau's awe-inspiring portrayals of the hidden world beneath the waves have made him one of the few celebrities to receive universal acclaim from both sides of the Cold War.\\\
And yet, his most recent project may very well tarnish this carefully cultivated image. Whether it was for fame, money, or a favor to his brother Jacques Cousteau has become a pawn in a Pakt PR scheme using the Kerguelen Islands as the setting of his newest pictures in a blatant attempt to downplay their military purpose. Cousteau has remained silent to the press on the issue and continued his maritime adventures aboard the Calypso under the watchful eye of his big brother.

Using his pull he was able to not just rapidly ascend the political scene, but cover for his brother's rumored connections to the resistance and kickstart his turn to superstardom.\\\
Now, nearly two decades later, Pierre-Antoine's career is running on fumes. Keeping his adventurous brother from embarrassing Paris while living on a frigid island at the bottom of the globe was not how he envisioned his future going; and yet, even in this most dark and miserable of places, duty to nation and family persevere.

* EnemyMine: Rademaker is not friendly EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Even though his brother isn't as much of an enthusiastic fascist, Pierre still goes out of his way to protect him from government prosecution and investigation into his alleged connections to the United States and only helps them in Operation Southern Cross to seize New Swabia and attack the Nazis, who they hate resistance. His connections even more.allowed Jacques to become a celebrity, despite the drastically different circumstances seen in the French Antarctic teaser.

Formed from the Australian, New Zealand, and former French claims during the Scramble for Antarctica, the OFN Antarctic Administration controls nearly half of the world's southernmost continent. The massive swath of land acts as an important staging base for OFN operations in and around the Indian Ocean, with minor military installations and naval bases dotting the coast. With the completion of the nuclear power plant at [=McMurdo=] Station, it is clear that the OFN's presence on the continent will only continue to expand. However, much like the rest of the OFN, the Administration's direction has been thoroughly dominated by the will of the United States Military, something that Australia and New Zealand would like to see change in the near future.

See its recap page here.

* AuthorityInNameOnly: The Australians and New Zealanders are supposed to be governing the OAA with the same relative authority as the Americans. Truthfully, the United States are clearly the ones in control, with the other two countries sidelined and left to fume.
* BalkanizeMe: If the OFN Administration has low legitimacy it will dissolve into the American, Australian, and New Zealand Antarctic territories.
* BlackSite: The Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is a project management tool employed by the Polaris Missile Development Program, secretly developing nuclear missiles in lonely Antarctica. Their latest endeavor is the Iceman Missile Development Project, whose development will be kept so secret that the design teams will be kept ignorant of each other's progress.
* BoringButPractical: One of the OFN's main defenses is sawdust, which some of the uninitiated soldiers laugh at. Unknown to them, sawdust can be mixed with water and frozen to create pykrete, creating a fortification as strong as concrete.
* DifficultButAwesome: Nuclear reactors are a fragile business that must be carefully handled, especially in an extreme climate like in Antarctica; one slip-up could cost the OAA a lot of money and/or lives. For example, a small, near-invisible crack can be dangerous because water can leak in and damage the inner shield. However, harnessing it has allowed [=McMurdo=] to be one of the largest and most successful bases in Antarctica, opening the potential for possible settlement on the continent.
* TheDogBitesBack: Years of being sidelined by the Americans leads the Australians and New Zealanders to form a truce against them, with Beale and Hillary conspiring to replace Raborn.
* ElaborateUndergroundBase: [=McMurdo=] Station is the closest thing to a city in Antarctica, housing several thousands of personnel in its insulated tunnels and corridors, filled with amenities like a coffee machine, couches, a hot plate, and emergency snacks.
* EnemyMine: To round up as much manpower against Neuschwabenland, the OAA forges an unlikely truce with the Brazilians, who want their own slice of the Antarctic continent.
* InSpiteOfANail: The Allied defeat in World War II led to the United States postponing most of their Antarctic programs indefinitely, including Operation Highjump. However, they would ultimately return to the continent anyway during the Scramble.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Project Iceman is a very confidential plan involving the development of nuclear missiles, so secret that some design members complain that they don't know the true nature of their work. Not even Beale and Hillary have a clue for what's going on; whenever they inquire about the deliveries, the Americans lie that it's for a base expansion.
* MultinationalTeam: The OAA is run by Americans, Australians, and New Zealanders. The crew manning [=McMurdo=] are also ethnically diverse, including African Americans, Māoris, and Asian refugees from the Commonwealth colonies.
* MultipleEndings: When it becomes clear that tensions in the OFN are mounting, Raborn resigns and lets someone else take over. The future of the OAA will depend on which country has the most influence:
** If the United States has the most influence, Rickover succeeds Raborn, continuing the America-centric approach of the OAA and continuing its militarization in defense of the "free world", even if this means shortchanging the Australians and New Zealanders.
** If Australia has the most influence, Beale takes over and advocates a more equitable relationship among the three countries participating in the OAA. However, he keeps up the militarization programs and plans to expand the nuclear reactor systems to create more livable bases, like [=McMurdo=].
** If New Zealand has the most influence, Hillary takes the most radical shift away from Raborn's militarization in favor of a more scientific administration, ending the arms race.
* PleaseSelectNewCityName: After invading Neuschwabenland in Operation Southern Cross, the OFN Administration will give new names to the former German land.Admiral Byrd Coast (Fuhrer Adolf Hitler Coast), Admiral Raborn Station (Führer Station), ADC Command Post Echo ([=DGfP=] III), Reedy Station (Filchner Station)
* SettlingTheFrontier: With the harnessing of nuclear energy, there are some long-term plans of possible habitation or colonization in Antarctica, though these will remain dreams so long as the political deadlock persists in the Administration. Beale's takeover of the OAA makes it more likely that this goal will be achieved, given his interest in creating more nuclear reactor systems.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: The Australians and New Zealanders dislike how the Administration's direction has been thoroughly dominated by the will of the United States Military, and demand a more prominent role in running the territory, as the land it occupies was originally claimed by them before the United States 'consolidated' the territory during the Scramble.
* ThirdPartyPeacekeeper: The OFN has tried mediating the territorial disputes between Argentina and Chile in Antarctica. They first tried giving peace a chance in a 1955 conference, but this was canceled when Juan Perón was deposed and Germany dropped out. The OFN tried their luck again in 1958, but the Argentinian Navy hated the idea of an OFN-controlled conference that would demilitarize the continent, so they invaded Chile's territory in the Snipe War and caused the negotiations to fall through.
* TitleDrop: The background lore describes the OFN's consolidation of their Antarctician territories under the command of Admiral Byrd in an effort called "Operation Deep Freeze".
* VitriolicBestBuds: The civilian scientists are more interested in subjects like the weather or the fauna, while the military researchers find them boring and conduct their own weapons and vehicle tests. Despite this, they have a shared interest in the advancement of knowledge and remain friendly with each other.
* WorthyOpponent: The United States Antarctic Service Expedition explored much of the southern continent in the [=1940s=] and was led by Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd. His efforts were respected by Alfred Ritscher, who invited him to the Third German Antarctic Expedition, something that Byrd declined due to the deteriorating relations between their home countries.

->In-Game Biography Vice Admiral Raborn is a career military officer, spending his life shifting from post to post and up the military hierarchy. He slowly rose through the ranks starting as a gunner, then a naval aviator, then an instructor, he eventually found himself serving aboard the USS Hancock CV-19 performing well as an executive officer. His most significant accomplishment during this time was repairing the ships flight deck in under 4 hours after a kamikaze attack, allowing the carrier's aircraft to return safely. Unlike most of the American Pacific Fleet, the Hancock was not destroyed at Iwo Jima, staying close enough to Luzon that she could escape the fate of her sister ships.\\\
After nearly being blinded by Pearl Harbor's destruction, Raborn was given several large management roles in the Pacific Fleet's air command, eventually commanding the USS Bairoko CVE-115, where he once more witnessed a nuclear blast as Castle Bravo detonated over Laurie Island in the South Atlantic. After moving to a few more instructor posts, Raborn was appointed Director of Special Projects for the Navy Department, where he managed the design of the UGM-27 Polaris. While he had little experience in engineering and science, his managerial skills and effective utilization of PERT (Project Evaluation and Review Technique) methodology got the job done 4 years ahead of schedule. This great success got him promoted to Vice Admiral in 1960, and then appointed as the Chief of the Antarctic Development Command and the OFN Antarctic Administration in 1961.\\\
Antarctica is cruel to strangers, and Raborn is foreign in more ways than one. After a year stationed in Antarctica, he has found that his duties have little to do with project management. Every day he is awoken with reports of Kenpeitai spies, German infiltration, and worst of all the complaints from OFN allies and politicians back home, neither of whom seem poised to make his job any easier.

* BestServedCold: Raborn is eager to assist the Americans in the Balintawak Blitz, which has rendered Japan's control of the Philippines vulnerable and given them a chance to avenge their loss in World War II.
* BigDamnHeroes: His most famous achievement was repairing the USS Hancock CV-19's flight deck in under four hours during a Japanese kamikaze attack in the Pacific. His efforts allowed the carrier to escape safely and avoid being sunk like the rest of the American Pacific Fleet at Iwo Jima.
* GracefulLoser: He's not completely comfortable with Hillary taking over the OAA and shifting gears towards a more scientific approach, but Raborn still respects a peaceful transfer of power, if New Zealand's influence is highest. As Hillary is given the microphone, Raborn gives him a sympathetic look before he steps away.
* HeavySleeper: Inverted. As a naval veteran, Raborn learned to fall asleep quickly, but wake up twice as fast whenever he's needed.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Operation Southern Cross pushes into German territory and allows the Brazilians to set up their own outpost, but his advisors make it clear that a direct siege on Schirmacher Station would be ill-advised. Their men are exhausted and the Nazis will fight back with everything they've got, now that their back is against the wall, so Raborn calls for a retreat and surrenders any further attacks on the Germans.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: After months of keeping Project Iceman secret from his subordinates, Raborn is kept in the dark himself by his benefactors, who start Iceworm II without briefing him first.
* MagnumOpus: Raborn's claim to fame is getting a UGM-27 Polaris Missile working four years ahead of schedule via the PERT. Such an achievement is unprecedented in rocket design, earning him a promotion to Vice Admiral in 1960 and making him the OFN's man to continue missile development in Antarctica.
* NoRespectGuy: His management of the OFN's Antarctic territory has largely been a thankless job, with OFN allies and politicians continuing to hound him about all sorts of problems.
* PetTheDog: For all his personal faults, Raborn's exit from leadership is quite gracious. When Hillary, Beale, and Wright confront him about the OAA's tensions, Raborn agrees that a change in leadership is needed to avert the looming crisis and tells them that it's been a honor to work with them.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: With Neuschwabenland cut off from supplies from Germania, Raborn can choose to answer their call for help with emergency supplies to the struggling territory.
--> "In any other situation, we would have told them to go to hell, but things are different down here. It doesn't matter where you're from, we all freeze the same."
* StayInTheKitchen: Raborn is a misogynist who doesn't believe a woman is capable of leading an independent research mission. Hillary openly disapproves of this attitude and argues with Raborn about finding female candidates to bring to the OAA.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: By organizing Operation Southern Cross, Raborn sacrifices hundreds of lives in a pointless war against the Germans for tracts of uninhabitable desert, but he's convinced that it will somehow deal a blow to fascism and tyranny abroad. When he realizes how many losses will ensue by attacking Schirmacher Station, Raborn calls off the attack.
* WrongLineOfWork: Raborn is a military man entrenched in politics and paperwork that bores or worries him. He considers his cramped office in [=McMurdo=] an alien place compared to the bridge of a carrier or a missile silo, environments he's far more comfortable in.

Formed from
the Pacific Theater Australian, New Zealand, and former French claims during the Scramble for Antarctica, the OFN Antarctic Administration controls nearly half of World War Two the world's southernmost continent. However, much like the rest of the OFN, the Administration's direction has been thoroughly dominated by the will of the United States Marine Corps, William "Rip" Robertson reportedly joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1947. He operated for some time Military, something that Australia and New Zealand would like to see change in the former Soviet Union as a member of the CIA's Special Activities Division, before being transferred to South East Asia for operations that still remain classified to Vice Admiral Raborn, despite his prying. * BearerOfBadNews: Robertson captures photos of the Germans' latest nuclear tests and brings them back to the Administration. The collective reaction is one of high concern that the Germans could outpace the OFN in the nuclear arms race.
* WhoNeedsEnemies: Robertson leads the Military Assistance Command, Antarctica, Studies and Observations Group (MACA-SOG), a group that operates independently from the Administration and tends to overstep their jurisdiction by assisting OFN operations in the Indian Ocean.

to:

* AmbiguousSituation: He was originally a member of AuthorityInNameOnly: The Australians and New Zealanders are supposed to be governing the CIA's Special Activities Division in OAA with the Soviet Union before being transferred same relative authority as the Americans. Truthfully, the United States are clearly the ones in control, with the other two countries sidelined and left to Southeast Asia for reasons that elude even Raborn. He's been questioned about it before, but Robertson fume.
* BalkanizeMe: If the OFN Administration
has never spilled.
* BearerOfBadNews: Robertson captures photos of
low legitimacy it will dissolve into the Germans' latest American, Australian, and New Zealand Antarctic territories.
* BlackSite: The Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is a project management tool employed by the Polaris Missile Development Program, secretly developing
nuclear tests missiles in lonely Antarctica. Their latest endeavor is the Iceman Missile Development Project, whose development will be kept so secret that the design teams will be kept ignorant of each other's progress.
* BoringButPractical: One of the OFN's main defenses is sawdust, which some of the uninitiated soldiers laugh at. Unknown to them, sawdust can be mixed with water
and brings them back frozen to create pykrete, creating a fortification as strong as concrete.
* SettlingTheFrontier: With the harnessing of nuclear energy, there are some long-term plans of possible habitation or colonization in Antarctica, though these will remain dreams so long as the political deadlock persists in
the Administration. The collective reaction is one Beale's takeover of high concern the OAA makes it more likely that the Germans could outpace the OFN this goal will be achieved, given his interest in the creating more nuclear arms race.
reactor systems.
* WhoNeedsEnemies: Robertson leads TeethClenchedTeamwork: The Australians and New Zealanders dislike how the Military Assistance Command, Antarctica, Studies Administration's direction has been thoroughly dominated by the will of the United States Military, and Observations Group (MACA-SOG), demand a group that operates independently from more prominent role in running the Administration territory, as the land it occupies was originally claimed by them before the United States 'consolidated' the territory during the Scramble.
* ThirdPartyPeacekeeper: The OFN has tried mediating the territorial disputes between Argentina
and tends to overstep Chile in Antarctica. They first tried giving peace a chance in a 1955 conference, but this was canceled when Juan Perón was deposed and Germany dropped out. The OFN tried their jurisdiction by assisting OFN operations luck again in 1958, but the Argentinian Navy hated the idea of an OFN-controlled conference that would demilitarize the continent, so they invaded Chile's territory in the Indian Ocean.

Snipe War and caused the negotiations to fall through.

* TheDeterminator: Rickover is not deterred by Beale and Hillary's complaints about his reign. No matter what, he will stand tall as an American vanguard in Antarctica, protecting it from fascist or hostile threats who oppose the OFN.
* ImmigrantPatriotism: Rickover was born in Poland to a Jewish family, who immigrated to the United States. He's also the most pro-American of Raborn's successors, having full faith that the United States can contain the spread of fascism through decisive military action.

Now stationed in Antarctica, Robertson heads MACA-SOG - Military Assistance Command, Antarctica, Studies and Observations Group - which operates mostly independently of the Administration. His jurisdiction is, technically, limited to Antarctica, but he has not shied away from providing support to other operations in the Indian Ocean. No matter what flag they belong to, everyone suffers through the cold and cruel storms, which claims multiple lives. While there are human antagonists and political rivals, their threat level doesn't hold a candle to what the Exile poses.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Whenever the Exile is personified, it is portrayed as an unforgiving entity beyond any human understanding or morality. As far as it's concerned, everyone could perish on the continent and it would not care.
* DeathWorld: There's good reason why this is the least inhabited and explored continent on Earth, both in this timeline and ours. The region is simply too cold and dry for any person to survive there in the long-term and the natural wildlife itself struggles to inhabit the area. It is rugged and harsh, but nothing compared to the calculated brutality of many human-occupied lands in the TNO world.
* DebugRoom: Like the Anarchy Island in base TNO, the Antarctic Interior uses the same tag (ZZZ), which helps secretly run events in the background.

** The Antarctic Interior is unique among the other anarchies for being completely natural. The extreme conditions here have rendered most of the continent a frozen desert with few signs of life and unviable for long-term human civilization. The only human activity so far has been recent and largely restricted to the coastline.
** One of the most iconic landmarks in the Interior is the Great Rift, a sheet of unstable ice covered with sastrugi sharp enough to destroy a snowcat or a sled's runners. It also has massive crevasses that could swallow an entire convoy whole, if they're not careful. It's one of the most dangerous parts on the route to the South Pole and passing this sheet is one of the biggest challenges facing Leal's crew in Operación 90.

everyone, Freeman saves another man's life by incidentally pulling him into his air pocket among the rubble. His superiors thank him for his heroism and recommend him for a Commendation Medal.
* BigBrotherInstinct: He's deeply concerned for his sister Anais' safety while she participates in the civil rights movement. When he hears that a protest got "rough" and she was knocked unconscious by KKK thugs, he requests clearance to leave Camp Century and return home, which is granted for his previous heroics.

The sun with blurred image peeping shyly through the wreathing drift giving pale shadowless light.\\\
The eternal silence of the great white desert. Cloudy columns of snow drift advancing from the south, pale yellow wraiths, heralding the coming storm, blotting out one by one the sharp-cut lines of the land.\\\
The blizzard, Nature's protest - the crevasse, Nature's pitfall - that grim trap for the unwary - no hunter could conceal his snare so perfectly - the light rippled snow bridge gives no hint or sign of the hidden danger, its position unguessable till man or beast is floundering, clawing and struggling for foothold on the brink.\\\

Prior to Chile's formal entry into the Second World War, Merino served in the US Navy on the USS Raleigh light cruiser. Following the victory of the Axis Powers, Merino returned to Chile, serving in several different naval units as time went on. In 1955, he began acting as an aide and counsel for naval weaponry to the Chilean embassy in the Canada. Following this, Merino's next and current appointment led him to Antarctica, serving as commander of the Chilean Naval Forces in the region. Given Chile's precarious position on the continent, Merino's work is vital in ensuring that neither the Argentineans or Japanese can seize the Chilean territory by force again.

* DiscOneFinalBoss: Neuschwabenland is targeted by the OAA in Operation Southern Cross, providing a common threat for the OFN to unite against. Once the Germans have been defeated, the OFN fractures between the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, revealing that their differences were the true challenge all along.

* VictoryByEndurance: When the OAA invades in Operation Southern Cross, the Nazis intend to spite the OFN by surrendering and boobytrapping their forward fortifications, while German snipers and anti-tank rocketeers disable their snow crawlers. This leaves the OFN forces trapped in the snow and forced to march for miles before they can reach Schirmacher Station. The Germans don't expect to stop them with these measures, but it will slow them down and make them more vulnerable.

* EnemyMine: The Chileans discreetly approach the OFN for a potential alliance to kick out their mutual enemies in Antarctica. Phleger is sent to Santiago to formalize the agreement.

to:

* TheRival: As soon as the Brazilians make it to Antarctica, they start a territorial dispute with Argentina. However, Reedy makes it clear to Rademaker that the OAA isn't going to get dragged into the conflict, making the rivalry purely one-to-one.

* AuthorityInNameOnly: The Australians and New Zealanders are supposed to be governing the OAA with the same relative authority as the Americans. Truthfully, the United States are clearly the ones in control, with the other two countries sidelined and left to fume.

* LetNoCrisisGoToWaste: Taking advantage of German’s inability to send supplies after the start of the German civil war, the Joint Chiefs of Staff will approve Operation Southern Cross, a joint OFN military operation to capture territory from Neuschwabenland with help from Brazil and Uruguay.

to:

* SettlingTheFrontier: With the harnessing of nuclear energy, there are some long-term plans of possible habitation or colonization in Antarctica, though these will remain dreams so long as the political deadlock persists in the Administration. Beale's takeover of the OAA makes it more likely that this goal will be achieved, given his interest in creating more nuclear reactor systems.

to:

* BestServedCold: Raborn is eager to assist the Americans in the Balintawak Blitz, which has rendered Japan's control of the Philippines vulnerable and given them a chance to avenge their loss in World War II.

\n!!Hyman Rickover\n* StayInTheKitchen: Raborn is a misogynist who doesn't believe a woman is capable of leading an independent research mission. Hillary openly disapproves of this attitude and argues with Hillary about finding female candidates to bring to the OAA.

->In-Game Biography (Economy Minister) Out of all the non-Americans in the OFN Antarctic Administration, Howard Beale is the highest up by far. A sub-lieutenant in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve during World War Two, Beale began his career in politics shortly after as a member of the Liberal Party, and served in several high-level positions in the Australian government, from Minister of Transport to Minister of Supply. After a brief stint as Ambassador to the United States, Beale was appointed to the OFN Antarctic Administration by the Australian government as a bid to secure more control over the Administration. While his position as Chief Finance Minister is not the most important, his support for the expansion of [=McMurdo=] Station and its new nuclear power facility has earned him praise from both American and Australian politicians. It remains to be seen, however, if his success will lead to more non-American appointments in the Antarctic.

\n!!Phillip Law * MagnumOpus: His most well-known achievement is building a nuclear reactor that turned [=McMurdo=] Station into a powerhouse and one of the largest bases in Antarctica. American and Australian politicians gave him mutual praise for his work and made him one of the highest-ranking non-American officials in the OAA.
* MeetTheNewBoss: Beale doesn't see a problem with the OAA's militarization, but he thinks that the Americans are becoming too overbearing and ignorant to their allies' needs. If he takes over, the Australians will now be in charge, but the same military programs will continue under his leadership.
* WorthyOpponent: While the American administration opposes bidding more control to their OFN allies, they share the Australians' respect for Beale, namely his expansion of [=McMurdo=] Station and construction of a new nuclear power facility.

has the lowest starting influence of the three countries. Virtually no predictions are made that he will take over the OAA and many express surprise if he does.
* ForWantOfANail: Given differing world circumstances, Hillary never goes on an expedition to the South Pole in the 1950s.
* GracefulLoser: If Leal's expedition to the South Pole is successful, Hillary is one of the few OFN higher-ups who is genuinely happy for his triumph and the advancement of science. He considers sending a letter congratulating the man, but forfeits this idea because of his paranoid security team.
* HeManWomanHater: Averted. Hillary is one of the few figures in the OAA who has no problem working with a female scientist and he was the one who convinced Raborn to invite Jones to Antarctica. And, contrary to Jones' fears, he accepts her handpicked, all-women team for a mission and jokes that Raborn is going to freak out about the news.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: When Neuschwabenland demands the extradition of forty defectors, Hillary is adamant that they deny the request and risk a diplomatic crisis. He appeals to the OFN as a safe haven for those escaping oppression, including Germans, and argues that turning in these defectors will betray their ideals.
* UnexpectedSuccessor: Of the possible predictions made for Raborn’s successor, few expected that he would’ve picked Hillary to succeed him.
* WideEyedIdealist: Hillary is a Christian and a humanist who came to Antarctica because he thought it'd be a place dedicated to the preservation of the "human spirit". He's opposed to fighting and wants a peaceful administration that can cooperate with the Germans and the Japanese for the betterment of the human race. Unfortunately, many consider his hope woefully misplaced or even a threat to the OFN's interests.
