* TheScrappy: Pierre is, by a long shot, the most hated character in the game. Partly for being an inattentive husband and a [[StayInTheKitchen sexist]] father, partly for being a big-time hypocrite who hates Morris for being a greedy businessman while wishing he could become one himself, partly for StealingTheCredit for high-quality crops you grow, and partly for [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking taking a day off and closing his shop on Wednesdays]]. His one redeeming moment in most people's eyes is [[spoiler:punching out Morris after the community center completion.]] More than 50,000 users have joined [[https://www.reddit.com/r/FuckPierre/top/?t=all his hate community on Reddit]].

* TheAlcoholic: She's far clearer about it than Shane is. Her favorite gifts usually involve alcohol, and she's often doing something alcohol-related during holidays (like spiking the punch). Unsurprisingly, in a cutscene, Gus confides in you that she's his best customer, to the point where he starts having ''cash flow problems'' when she doesn't pay off her tab for a while.

A mysterious character who lives in the mines.

* AmbiguousGender: It's impossible to tell with absolute certainty what gender the Dwarf is. This has yet to be officially disclosed both in-game and out. Their [[TheFaceless obscured face]] and [[EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep generic name]] only adds to the ambiguity.

* FantasticRacism: Dislikes Shadow People, with whom the Dwarves were at war for a thousand years. A cutscene has them invade the sewers and attack Krobus, seeking vengeance for their family.

* OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame: {{Subverted}} in a rather strange manner. According to books and other snippets of information one can find around the game world, Dwarves apparently arrived on earth via ''space ship'' before attempting to build an underground empire (theorized to be that the Dwarves' home planet had a much thicker atmosphere or a less radioactive star, keeping them off the surface), which presumably is the reason the Dwarves went to war with the similarly underground Shadow People.

* ConspicuousTrenchcoat: He wears a ''bright purple'' one when going out, as well as some CoolShades and a fancy hat, in order to hide the fact that he is a shadow person. [[AchievementsInIgnorance Somehow, it works.]]

* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Not her, but her pig, which is straight-up purple... and wearing glasses and a fez.

* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Qi's skin is a pale blue pallor, adding to his strangeness.

* TheCasino: Runs one, which features blackjack and slots.

A friendly spirit... [[BuffySpeak thing]] added to the game in Version 1.4 that lives in the Cindersap Forest starting on year 3. Giving it whatever food it asks you for will result in it cleaning up the town... by flying around with a magic umbrella.

* PunnyName: Its name is a pun on "trash panda", a slang term for raccoons, since the Trash Bear looks like a combination of The Bear and a raccoon.
* ShoutOut: The cutscene that plays after you feed it pays homage to ''Film/MaryPoppins'' and even more blatantly ''Anime/MyNeighborTotoro'', being as he's a strange large magic animal who improves the area with magic & then catches the wind home on an umbrella.

Alex's old dog, he is always seen in his doghouse inside his pen.

* VagueAge: Alex mentions that Dusty has been with him since before he came to live with his grandparents, which would make him around 10-12 years old. Pretty old age for a dog.

* SecondLove: Leah has an ex-lover named Kel. [[spoiler:She moved out to the country to get away from Kel after it became clear that Kel wanted Leah to abandon her dream of becoming an artist. If you romance her, it's made very clear to Kel that things are over with a punch, delivered by you or Leah.]]
* StarvingArtist: Her background. It was what motivated her to move to the country, where she could easily get food from nature and pursue her craft.

* WineIsClassy: One of her loved gifts is a bottle of wine, her married dialog also sometimes mentions enjoying it and on Winter 28 she will give a bottle of wine to the player to celebrate the end of the year.

* HugeSchoolgirl: She's not in school anymore, but she is one of the tallest characters. She's even taller than most of the males.

* ObliviousToLove: Poor, poor Clint. She can't tell that he's smitten with her.

* AbusiveParents: If you befriend him, he reveals [[spoiler:his dad was an alcoholic, treated him and his mom badly, and verbally abused him.]]

* TheTeetotaler: This isn't as obvious as it is with Penny, but like her he had an alcoholic parent, and it's very telling that he is the only one of the six bachelors who never frequents the Stardrop Saloon. [[spoiler: The only time he ever visits the saloon is when he takes you there for a dinner date.]]

* TwoGuysAndAGirl: With Sebastian and Abigail. The three hang out together at the Saloon every Friday night (even if you marry one of them) and are often seen together at festivals. If you befriend Sam, one of his earliest plotlines, the search for a drummer for his band, will play out with Sebastian recruiting Abigail for the position - which, considering this trope, is basically a foregone conclusion.

* OnlyOneWhoLikesSpam: For some reason he loves Void Eggs, which every other character dislikes except Krobus.

* RichBitch: Kel might be rich. In Leah's internet-variant ten hearts event, she describes Mr. K as "a rich guy who truly loved [her] art". Kel is Mr. K and concedes that Leah is half right. Because they don't like her art, that leaves the implication that Kel is rich and that coincides with their haughty attitude towards Stardew Valley and the Farmer, whom they call a "simple-minded bumpkin".

A merchant who appears on Fridays and Sundays just south of the farm, near the north entrance of the Cindersap Forest. She sells a cycling inventory of, well, almost everything, provided you can afford them.

* WomanScorned: She and the Wizard used to be married, but he states that she went off the deep end when he wronged her. Though he doesn't [[CrypticBackgroundReference specify what exactly he did]], there are several hints that he had an affair with a villager which resulted in an illegitimate child. [[spoiler:Abigail is allegedly a brunette and dyes her hair purple, but she can’t remember ''when'' she last dyed it...]]

Leah's ex who lives in the city. Their gender is always the same as the player's, and they only appear if the player pursues a romance with Leah.

* EarlyBirdCameo: They can be seen sulking in the background during Leah's art show on her 8 heart event.
* TheFaceless: Because Kel's gender is dependent on the player's, the character lacks a facial portrait.

* GoldDigger: It's only after Leah's art show is a success that they try to get Leah back. Leah even calls Kel out on this.
* HateSink: The only scenes they are in, they are unlikable and manipulative towards Leah, and it's clear that they're an abusive ex towards Leah as well. It's hard to feel sorry for them when they are punched in the face.
* LackOfEmpathy: Towards Leah, seeing how they didn't show much support for her interest in pursuing art. Kel also refers to the player as a "simple-minded bumpkin", which is a derogatory term towards farmers.
* ManipulativeBastard: Tried to get Leah to pursue a more profitable career instead of supporting her own interests.

* EarlyBirdCameo: Downplayed, but he first appeared in update 1.1 as a part of Emily's 10 heart event. Obviously, however, this only occurs if you romanced Emily, so it's possible to have never seen him prior to your proper meeting with him.

* ShoutOut: The cutscene that plays after you feed it pays homage to Film/MaryPoppins and even more blatantly Anime/MyNeighborTotoro, being as he's a strange large magic animal who improves the area with magic & then catches the wind home on an umbrella.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: It has 5. What they are is decided randomly per save file.

* KissingInATree: A non mean-spirited example. Choosing certain dialogue in her 8-heart event has Vincent innocently state he saw Sam and Penny climbing into a tree together, which flusters Penny quite a bit. WordOfGod has [[https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/4b8s7v/comment/d16zqdf/ confirmed]] their friendship is entirely platonic.

* SecretRelationship: He is in one with Marnie. One of his personal quests is for you to "discreetly" find and recover his "lucky" purple shorts. And the shorts just happen to be found in Marnie's bedroom. Of course, upon returning them to the good mayor, he (quite unconvincingly) [[ImplausibleDeniability denies any knowledge of how they could have ended up there]].

* NightmareFetishist: A mild example, but she asks you what you think happens when you die (you can say Heaven, ghosts, reincarnation, nothing, I don't know) and one of her cutscenes involves using an Ouija board. She's also enthusiastic if you want to go on vacation in a dark cave or a gnarled old forest, and says the beach would "get old fast". That said, [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes she can't stand spiders]] in the Haunted Maze during the Spirit's Eve event, and when she finally does go adventuring in the mines she gets overwhelmed.

* ReplacementGoldfish: Abigail has a guinea pig named David in her room at Pierre's store. If you marry her, the guinea pig remains there under the care of Pierre and Caroline, and Abigail gets a new guinea pig named "David Jr." for the farmhouse.

* BeamMeUpScotty: One of the most popular memes in the Stardew Valley fandom is about Abigail's line which implies that she eats gems, and amethyst is one of her loved gifts as well as fitting with her color scheme. This often leads to people saying that she eats amethyst, when in reality she says the line for any gem ''except'' amethyst.

* {{Expy}}: As an outgoing and adventurous shopkeeper's daughter with colored hair and similar outfits, she strongly resembles Karen of ''Harvest Moon''.

* IsItSomethingYouEat: When gifted a lump of quartz, Abby remarks how delicious it looks. Originated from a glitch where you presumably gave her something edible instead, and [[AscendedGlitch everyone liked it so much that the developers kept it.]]

* LittleMissBadass: Abigail is the shortest of the 6 bachelorettes [[note]]one of the shortest adults in the town along with Evelyn and Pam[[/note]], and ''definitely'' the most badass.

* NoNameGiven: You never learn her name. Heck, she doesn't even have a character portrait.

* EveryoneCanSeeIt: If you don't pursue Seb yourself, you'll notice that everybody close to him (including his sister Maru and his best friend Sam) are very aware of his feelings for Abigail, and think he should just go for it already.

* HappilyMarried: To Demetrius.

* BoyfriendBlockingDad: A more passive-agressive example than usual, but in Maru's 2-hearts event Demetrius [[spoiler: implictly threatens the Farmer saying that he doesn't want anything getting in the way of his daughter's bright future]]. He gets over it if the Farmer marries Maru, however.

* ShipperOnDeck: If you marry Maru, she'll sometimes comment that she wishes her brother Sebastian would just ask Abigail out.
* StargazingScene: Both her 6 and 14 hearts involve stargazing with the player character.

Emily is a very quirky girl with a deeply spiritual side, but she also has a tender and nurturing side to her personality as well, and she loves animals. If some newcomer farmer could get to grips with her, she would probably be a good match.

This is probably only because they were both upgraded to marriage candidates at the same time, in Update 1.1, leaving each with no other possible character to dance with.

* KarmaHoudini: There's no way (without mods) to get back at him, or at the very least call him out, for stealing credit for the produce you sold him.

* OnlyOneWhoLikesSpam: The only character besides Krobus who likes Void Mayonnaise.

* TranslationConvention: After drinking the potion from the Wizard, the player character is able to understand them, as shown in the cutscenes of them thanking them for their help.

* NosyNeighbour: Regardless of how you choose to play, several heart events start out with your character sneaking into places they aren't supposed to be (such as Pierre's six-heart event), listening in on private conversations (such as Lewis and Marnie's six-heart event), or both (such as Caroline's six-heart event). This is rarely ever held against you or even acknowledged by the townsfolk, however.
