When Rise of Lyric starts out, Sonic is fighting Eggman alongside his friends as he always does. Shadow even considers Sonic's reliance on his friends to be a weakness. Whenever Sonic tries to take the credit for what the group does collectively, it comes off more like his usual showboating instead of a genuine "IWorkAlone" attitude. In fact, in "Shattered Crystal", Sonic is always the first to suggest teamwork.

* TheLeader: A level headed, DeadpanSnarker OnlySaneMan type. In contrast to his main series counterpart who was a headstrong type blasting through every challenge with Sonic Speed.
* LeeroyJenkins: According his official bio, Sonic hates planning ahead. There is a multitude of evidence from the TV series that supports this.
* MomentOfWeakness: Sonic hesitated when a horde of robots under Eggman's command descended upon the group outside of Lyric's Tomb, and he opened the door (despite Amy telling him, twice, not to do it) after Metal Sonic showed up instead of moving to help them in advance. Besides Eggman and Metal Sonic, everyone present at the event was angry with Sonic for what transpired[[spoiler:, including Shadow]]. Not only does this kick off the plot of the game, but Sonic [[spoiler:makes things worse during one of his attempts to rectify his mistake]].
* OnlySaneMan: Often comes off as this in many plot lines, between his dysfunctional team and Eggman's antics. Being Sonic, he's not ''completely'' lucid however.

* AwesomenessByAnalysis: He recalibrates the Enerbeam binding array into individual units for the group's use after their first contact with Lyric.

* GogglesDoNothing: While they would come in handy while flying a plane, Tails doesn't bother putting them over his eyes in the trailer.
** Kind of justified in the fact that you wouldn't expect them to cover his big, blue, cartoony eyes, anyway. He wears them on odd occasions of intense tooling however.
* HandwrapsOfAwesome: He doesn't wear any on his hands, but like Sonic, he wears them on his shoes.
* HereWeGoAgain: Subverted. At the end of "Buster", when Sticks gives up Buster, Tails finds a stray octopus and asks if he can keep it as a pet, only for the octopus to promptly [[SwallowedWhole swallow him whole]]. Tails quickly changes his mind.
* HeliCritter: Tails's [[AddedAlliterativeAppeal main method of movement]], of course. In the games based on the show, this only amounts to gliding, unless in a [[CutscenePowerToTheMax cutscene]]. The show and comics have him flying around as usual, and using his tails to swim quickly.

* HiddenDepths: Implied to have potential in script writing in "Eggman the Auteur".

* OnlySaneMan: If even Sonic screws up, Tails usually takes his position here instead.
* ShorterMeansSmarter: He's the shortest character, and also the smartest.

* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Brawn, obviously
* BewareTheSillyOnes: In the first issue of the comic. [[spoiler:He ''really'' did not appreciate all the "oh God what an idiot" directed at him, most of which was from Amy.]]
** Knuckles in general. He is an exceptionally powerful and skilled martial artist, and his typical silliness is almost completely absent whenever he and his friends battle Eggman and his army.
* TheBigGuy: As usual, except that he now looks the part even more so than before.
* BloodKnight: He's not psychotic by any means, but he clearly loves to brawl. At one point in "Shattered Crystal", he gets excited at the idea of fighting his way through a canyon of death traps and enemies.
* BoisterousBruiser: Loud and pretty adventurous.
* BoxingBattler: His fighting style resembles this, with a few karate and wrestling elements mixed in.
* CatchPhrase: "[[NiceJobBreakingItHero Not cool, Sonic]]". He usually say this missing the point.
* CharacterExaggeration: The main series Knuckles was known for being gullible and occasionally one track minded. This version makes him a full blown idiot, to the point that can't read and has trouble telling his left from right.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Knuckles often acts like clueless manchild in the slice-of-life parts of every episode, but when a fight scene is involved, he proves to be an exceptionally competent fighter and team player.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Knuckles' IQ takes a real dive in this series. In the comics, at one point Amy says "I acknowledge I get... impatient with you sometimes." A few pages later Tails tells her, "Your impatience with him got us into this mess." But Knuckles isn't a little kid; he's 16. Now, what ''other'' kinds of people do you have to be 'patient' with?

* GeniusDitz: As always, Eggman is incredibly intelligent, but lacks common sense.

** Also played literally straight in issue 6 of the comics, where Eggman invites Sonic and friends to compete in a 'friendly' Go-Karting Competition.

In ''Rise of Lyric'', Salty lives near Cliff's Excavation Site on a lake leading to The Pit, and is kind enough to give you his ''Riptide'' watercraft if only Sonic's group can find the parts to repair it. He later relocates to Bygone Island, where he is seeking to reconcile with his elusive brother. Sonic and company can eventually find him living on a far shore of Crater Lake.

Salty has appeared on the ''Sonic Boom'' cartoon twice so far, both times as security personnel.

* CharacterDevelopment: Team Sonic's counseling along with the threat posed by Lyric convince the two that holding grudges is no way to live life, and the two make amends.

So dedicated to his craft is he that he's utterly unconcerned with the danger that Lyric poses to Bygone Island, [[spoiler: which later bites him in the butt when Lyric commandeers Metal Sonic and lays waste to half of said island.]]

Also appears in the ''Sonic Boom'' cartoon. Here his most prominent roles have him hobnobing with his village's elite citizens, although he overall appears to be ''slightly'' more capable in his mayoral duties.

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: Like a lot of the characters in ''Rise of Lyric'', Fastidious Beaver's personality underwent quite a few changes during the jump to the TV series.
** In ''Rise of Lyric'', Fastidious Beaver is kind of a smug JerkAss who rather aggressively asks Sonic to help him in his efforts to unseat Mayor Fink from his office. He has also apparently hydrodashed (that is, ran across the surface of water at high speeds) at least once.
** On the TV show, Fastidious is utterly passive and is very aware of his status as the series's ultimate ButtMonkey. About the only time he'll challenge anything is when somebody uses what he perceives as improper grammar. On a hoverboard, he lasts for about a surprisingly long 20 seconds.
* CommutingOnABus: Even as a tertiary character, he's quickly becoming this on the show. The only episode where he has any bearing on the plot is the pilot, and more and more he's becoming a one-note joke for his GrammarNazi tendencies. This is especially true during the second half of the first season, where his appearances outside of crowd shots can be counted on one hand.
* {{Expy}}: His voice and mannerisms are very similar to those of {{WesternAnimation/Droopy}}.

A jellyfish couple living at Crater Lake, a large body of water on Bygone Island. Hokey has green coloration and Pokey is pink. The two survive above the water thanks to being encased in robotic mechs. Although they have been married for 175 years and still love each other, they have become prone to bickering about everything.
* BoringButPractical: Hokey. He even considers chocolate ice cream to be insufficiently plain.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Pokey. She most of her dialogue centers around ice cream, even if that has nothing to do with what's going on. Highly implied to be due to the onset of old-age dementia.
* GrumpyBear: Hokey is generally cantankerous and abrasive, even if he is ultimately helpful. Sadly, this might be because Pokey seems to be losing her mind.
* HenpeckedHusband: Hokey keeps Pokey on a short leash to his displeasure, and she successfully sent him to the doghouse over an argument they had.

* {{Badass}}: He may have a smaller role than most of his appearances, but he retains all of his awesome. In ''Shattered Crystal,'' after being freed of Lyric's mind control, he vows vengeance upon him. At the end of the game [[spoiler: he shows up and makes short work of Lyric's "ultimate" machine before kicking him out of an airlock for good measure.]] In the TV show proper, he's one of the few characters to actually give Sonic a challenge.

Old Tucker, the lazy farmer you can meet shortly before you enter Cliff's dig site, was a member of the Ancients's civilization all those hundreds of years ago. * ControlFreak: Increasingly pushy and egocentric as the show goes on. Lampshaded by Sonic in "Closed Door Policy":

* HollywoodToneDeaf: Her singing is even worse than Amy's, making all of her friends cower and cover their ears every time she tries. Strangely enough, the rock monster in "Sleeping Giant" is soothed by it.

* AccidentalMisnaming: Eggman never onces gets Knuckles' name right in the show. He calls him Nurples, Noodles, Nickles, and various other versions. It isn't certain if he's doing this deliberately or if he legitimately keeps forgetting. Either way, Knuckles never notices.

* TheComicallySerious: In the TV series, he "participates" in Eggman's team building in the loosest sense of the word, showing up and mocking the rest of the villains, keeping his responses very dry.
