The Chick is now a disambiguation, not a trope.

* TheChick[=/=]TheHeart: Beth often serves as the mediator for tense situations.

* AngstWhatAngst: Invoked. Riley appears to have quickly changed back to her usual bright self after running away, but there are clear hints she's not doing as well as she acts. She avoids talking about her time in exile with Will, or the time she spent with Michelle, or outright changes the conversation topic when it comes up, and the few times she has talked about it reveal that she doesn't know how to handle the trauma it's caused her. His personality has also changed; he's a lot more apprehensive, and starts frantically apologizing whenever she feels someone she looks up to might be upset with her.

* AmbiguouslyBi: She's romantically involved with Will in early seasons, and later ends up dating Cara.

to:

* BlackAndWhiteMorality: Beth's FatalFlaw is that she tends to focus all of her anger and trauma onto one person, regardless of how much that person was actually responsible for, or the circumstances that led them to make the decisions that hurt her. After season 3, she started blaming Riley for Will's spiral. She did eventually reflect and realize the destruction of everything and Will's death weren't Riley's fault, but she then shifted the full blame of everything onto Will. Since everyone believed Will was already dead at that point, she took that chance to focus on healing, joining the allegiance and rebuilding her life... which got completely uprooted when Will came back.
* BreakTheBeliever: She becomes this during season 4.
* BrokenBird: The negative experiences she's endured have turned into one of these.
* TheChick[=/=]TheHeart: Beth often serves as the mediator for tense situations.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After she decides to seek revenge on Riley, she cuts her long hair shorter.
* Foil:
** To Cara. Both are emotional people who are compassionate and willing to help and support their needs, and both follow their own beliefs. However, when it comes to expression, Beth tends to quietly hold grudges without anyone noticing, but she loses some of her morals, becoming more willing to hurt people who helped her before and take actions that only benefit herself. On the other hand, Caralyn openly expresses her opinions, and keeps her willingness to save others and do what's best for the people. The two also have opposite relations towards Riley; Beth planned to kill Riley, while Cara is somewhat of a parental figure towards her. Beth viewed Riley as someone who brought chaos and destruction towards everyone else, but Cara views the others as the ones who'd brought chaos and destruction towards Riley.

->First appearance: 1x01, "New Beginnings"
->"Live."

Fiona was, and still is Riley's closest friend. She easily joined the rebellion during season 1. Fiona is very trusting, which has often led to her being manipulated. Riley said that Fiona has ‘thicker skin’ in comparison to Riley, who is very open about her emotions and isn’t afraid to have strong reactions. This isn’t true though, Fiona gets criticized by Will and later Samuel for thinking with her emotions.\\

After having had enough with constant wars and feeling ignored by the others, she teamed up with Oliver as she saw Riley to be the cause of her misery. However, after finding out about Will, she realized that Riley was never the source of her problems. She eventually started hanging with Cara, and later joined Jace's alliance, where she began to heal. However, Will's return threw a massive spanner in that, leaving her once again at a complete loss of what to do.\\

* AngstWhatAngst: Trope and deconstructed. Fiona almost never talks about or acknowledges the traumatic experiences she's gone through giving the impression that she's shrugged off those negative experiences, but in actuality it's more of a case of Fiona downplaying how it affects her or bottling-up her feelings.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Despite being the one to make the choice of Riley leaving, Fiona insists that she still cares for her. And after the events of season 4, they begin repairing their relationship. They go through more hardships during season 5, but during season 6, it's confirmed that Riley and Fiona are dating.
* CoveredInScars: Fiona has scars on her face because of her attack in 2x12.
* DeathSeeker: While she's never actively sought out her own death like Riley has, Fiona is worryingly apathetic about her own death, seeing it as an inevitability that she can accept as long as Riley is still alive. This likely stems from Riley claiming that Will will always matter more than her during their heated battle prior to season 5, and while Riley clearly regretted it and said as much to Fiona, it's clear that it stuck with her and brought down her own self-worth.

\n* AntiHero: Will is an idealistic person who just wants to protect Persiern and the rebellion, but he's hindered by his own selfishness, callousness, and paranoia.
* FatalFlaw:
** His selfishness and arrogance very often tends to screw him over, especially during season 2 when it leads to him directly and indirectly setting up the circumstances for his own exile.
* ItsAllMyFault: Will heaps guilt upon himself whenever he realizes he's screwed up. Of course, it takes a lot for him to recognize he's done something wrong, and sometimes he won't act on his guilt, the most notable example of this is 3x12.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold[=/=]Jerkass: He alternates between the two. He's well-meaning and cares deeply about his friends, but he's deeply neglectful towards Riley in the latter of season 2. He switches mostly to the latter during his mental spiral.
* KickTheMoralityPet: Pretty much any of the times he insults Riley qualifies, which only increases as he undergoes SanitySlippage.

->First appearance: 1x01, "New Beginnings"

Will's surrogate sister and a HotBlooded teen. Riley is the only person to remain (outwardly)loyal to Will after Samuel exiled him, leaving with him and helping Will with his plan to reclaim everything. However, Will's spiral drove a wedge between the two, and whatever trust they'd managed to keep was broken with Will's betrayal at the end of season 3.\\

\n * AcquiredSituationalNarcissism: Downplayed. Will isn't an asshole, but by the time the middle of season two comes, he's way too complacent with his own power and underestimates the situation.
