* CloseRangeCombatant: Despite looking like an all-out support, he handles surprisingly well in zero-range combat by hipfiring his pistol and melee. His shield can close the distance gap quickly and safely and at close range where hipfiring is a viable option, he becomes really deadly for a shield operator. A good Montagne is effectively unbeatable in one-on-one situations where he doesn't need to lower his shield until he wants to, such as in a post-plant.

* SkillGateCharacter: Fuze used to be a very big example of this, being very powerful in early metagame but very ineffective in later metagame when players are getting more experienced to recognize the distinctive beep the cluster charge makes when it is deployed, making it very easy to avoid them; this is acknowledged as such with the "Starter Edition", which randomly unlocks two Operators identified as being good for early-game players, with Fuze being one of the possible options. With Fuze getting a massive buff early 2017 that practically doubles his kill radius and gave him more cluster charges, he gained new usefulness in crowd control and clearing utility.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: Tactical breaching hammers ''are'' a thing in real military and police applications, where a designated sledgehammer is used to gain entry to a blocked area by smashing down doors and windows or other such structural weaknesses to create an opening. The in-game demonstration is rather excessive and exaggerated, however, since soft walls will be reduced to splinters in one to two swings, whereas real hammer breaching is much less destructive and only intended to create an opening large enough for the task at hand instead of completely destroying a given barrier.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: Ceramic inlays are an actual type of armor that has been in existence in several forms for the better part of a century. Their purpose is to shatter upon impact by a high-velocity projectile to deflect and/or reduce its kinetic energy and preventing it from penetrating through the armor layer. The DBNO timer extension as demonstrated in-game is fictional, however.
