In her Social Link, Naoto has several of her possessions stolen and receives taunting riddles from a GentlemanThief. Yu helps her retrieve them, and she becomes more comfortable with his assistance. It is eventually revealed that the "thief" is actually her grandfather, who simply did it to help reignite her passion. If the player openly aims so through their choices, she becomes somewhat more feminine, but will keep it mostly just to herself and the Main Character; following a series of options, she even dresses in the female school uniform on Christmas Eve.

In the spin-offs like ''Arena'' and ''Q'', which feature the entire IT from the start, she's playable from the start and gets just as much focus as the other team members.

Turns out that if you're half everybody else's age in the police force, constantly act like a stuck-up know-it-all, push everyone around and lord your incredible intellect over them, no amount of talent or success is going to stop them from kicking you out. Some professionals just aren't good ''enough'' to be afforded infinite patience. At the same time, the entire reason she acts overly assertive with her intelligence in the first place is because of her age ''and'' her gender, so she feels she has to act like such to get any respect in the first place. Furtherore, the department's unwilling to admit that the underage suspect they brought in didn't actually do it, since it'd tarnish their credibility.

* GirlsAreReallyScaredOfHorrorMovies: During the ski trip event in the animated series, she bursts into a panicky rant about denying the existence of ghosts.

* {{Deuteragonist}}: While the overall ''Arena'' series games largely make Yu Narukami the primary hero, she gets nearly as much focus as him in the first game, acting as the connective tissuing tying the Shadow Operatives and the Investigation Team together, with her own involvement with the plane hijacking being what kicks off the entire story. Her routes are also the lengthiest, even more than Yu's. Come ''Ultimax'', however, she has been DemotedToExtra.
