Zalgo then placed a curse on the man turning him into a monstrous abomination as well as making him immortal so he could live forever with his pain and guilt. Father of Slenderman and series {{Big Bad}}. Zalgo is a malevolent and mysterious entity of chaos and evil that lives in a palace of tortured glass, served by legions of monsters forged from the tears of the undead, and each one clad in armor carved from the concentrated suffering of grieving mothers. He also is said to live within all mankind, waiting for the thin glass wall within them to crack, so that he may take over. His real name is Z'algatoth and he has a cult of followers who wish to bring about his coming.

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: There is no one who truly likes Zalgo. This is more evident in "Something Zalgo This Way Comes", where it's established that the only reason his henchmen follows him is that they're either brainwashed or afraid of being tortured or killed. Shadowlurker only follows him out of fear, and X only uses Zalgo's resources as means to take over new universes. Not even ''the Rake'', a psychotic monster who mutilates children for fun, likes Zalgo. Hell, not even Earth's ''Satan'' likes Zalgo and considers him too dangerous.
* AbusiveDad: UpToEleven. When Slenderman was a child, Zalgo put him through TrainingFromHell and had him beaten within an inch of his life on a daily basis.
* AbusiveParents: It's implied his parents were neglectful of him.
* AffectionateNickname: BEN calls him "flame-head-demon-guy" and the High Priestess of Zalgo sometimes calls him "Emperor Z".
* TheAgeless: He is over a billion years old.
* TheAntichrist: Not only is he immensely powerful, but he was also born from generations of Satanic monsters who ruled over the Pit for centuries.
* AliensAreBastards: He is a demon-alien hybrid.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Enderman spends a lot of his time constantly complaining about the fact Zalgo has a much larger army, more resources, and is more powerful than him.

* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: He is a size-shifter, so he can turn into any size he wants.
* AxCrazy: He has gleefully destroyed millions of planets by massacring the inhabitants and enslaving the survivors, all ForTheEvulz.

* BadassGrandpa: He's been around since B.C, and is still able to conquer and destroy entire universes.
* BadBoss: Abuses and kills his henchmen at the drop of a hat; reasons varying from "[[BlofeldPloy needing an example]], [[GoLookAtTheDistraction avoiding an awkward conversation]], and "[[ItAmusedMe because I wanted to]]".
** According to Shadow Lurker, he doesn't pay his minions or associates at all since he thinks ''allowing them to live'' is payment enough.
* BerserkButton: If his henchman fail a mission, [[ShootTheMessenger Zalgo's response is predictable.]]
* BigBad: Easily the most powerful, dangerous and {{overarching villain}} in the series.
* BreathWeapon: Zalgo can breathe some type of lava substance (possibly blood?) from his mouth: [[spoiler: He uses it to corrupt Lara in "Legends of the Multiverse"]]

* CreepyMonotone: In episodes showing him in the past, he always talks in a quiet, creepy whisper that always carries an undertone of menace and practically drips with barely concealed hate.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Easily the darkest character in the series.
* DarkIsEvil: He has a black body.
* DealWithTheDevil: He has made deals with many of Slenderman's enemies that he will most likely not honor.
* TheDreaded: Saying his name is enough to send both Earth and Dark World beings in panic. Even Enderman, the Rake, the Stiltwalker, and the Crooked Man are afraid of him.
* DiabolicalMastermind: He claims to be a genius, but most of it comes from his uncanny ability to manipulate others to his will.
* EldritchAbomination: He is an intergalactic demon who has destroyed many planets and enslaved galaxies.
* TheEmperor: The supreme emperor of all evil.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Everyone in the Pit calls him "(the) Emperor" or some other variant.
* EvilerThanThou: He has proved this many times to Enderman, Mancala, the Rake, etc.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: One of the reasons he hates Lara, aside from her being human, is because she cares about others.
* EvilCounterpart: Acts as one to Aton, full stop. Both are the series' GreaterScopeVillain and GreaterScopeParagon, respectively. Similarly, both rule over a dimension: while Aton rules over the Overworld, a substitute for Heaven, Zalgo rules over the hellish Pit, a clear surrogate to Hell. Both are fighting for a cause: Zalgo thrives on spreading despair and terror; Aton inspires hope and fights for a better world without Zalgo. Both have their fatal flaws: Aton is an ignorant {{manchild}} and Zalgo is StupidEvil, to the point that it makes him predictable and even is a weakness for him.
* EvilFeelsGood: His defining characteristic. He loves all the atrocities and depraved things that aliens and humans alike are capable of. Zalgo is willing to overlook attacks against him and his army so long as they're sufficiently "evil". When Tails Doll is betrayed and captured, Zalgo just ordered him imprisoned rather than killed, out of respect for the city destroying plot that had just been foiled.

* EvilCounterpart: To the Proxies. Both serve demonic megalomaniacs, are insanely powerful, and go on demanding missions for their leaders. However, Slenderman is a (somewhat) benevolent boss who does somewhat care for the Proxies, and they ''do'' follow him out of their own will. In contrast, Zalgo's minions are either brainwashed, forced to serve him, or are genuinely sadistic monsters (although the latter is much less prominent than the two others). Zalgo is also a malevolent BadBoss who views his minions as little toys to help conquer universes and regularly murders them without a hint of guilt.

** In "Legends of the Multiverse", unlike Zalgo's goons, who stick together even after [[spoiler: Zalgo's defeat]], or Enderman's, who continue to support their boss despite him being dealt a severe blow early on in the episode, as soon as X leaves the scene, his mooks almost immediately abandon him; choosing to join up with the other gangs rather than heal their leader. This makes sense since, at one point, a demon said most of X's thugs were loaned to him by Zalgo. Another even said, "we are professionals." X may demand a higher grade of mooks, but if X, aka their paycheck, is gone, then so are they.

Finally, when the three of them are knocked off the building, she has the presence of mind to instantly grab a tree limb and Jeff and BEN's hands as he flies past her, saving them once more.
** In her with Enderman. Even though scared, beaten to the ground and having her face slashed by the Rake, she still manages to annoy him with her constant quipping.
** Even when he's laughing and screaming in her face, Lara looks dead into Zalgo's face and tells him she isn't afraid of him. Keep in mind, this is [[EldritchAbomination ''ZALGO'']] she said his to. A demonic overlord who conquers entire universes and destroys planets for his amusement, and Lara ''wasn't afraid oh him''.

** In addition to this, the Proxies and Bush's many associates hurt, torment, and murder children on a daily basis and Bush himself doesn't seem to mind. In "''Outta the Ball Park''" a fleet of US soldiers decimated a village in Afghanistan and tried to kill a little girl and her mother. Jeff, Laughing Jack, and SUICIDEMOUSE.EXE made a habit out of massacring entire neighborhoods, children included, and they are still considered Bush's "favorite Proxies". It is also shown that Bush welcomes serial killers and terrorists from across the world and allows them to destroy and massacre populated neighbourhoods that are explicitly shown to have children within them.

Similarly, both rule over a dimension: while Aton rules over the Overworld, a substitute for Heaven, Zalgo rules over the hellish Pit, a clear surrogate to Hell. Both are fighting for a cause: Zalgo thrives on spreading despair and terror; Aton inspires hope and fights for a better world without Zalgo. Both have their fatal flaws: Aton is an ignorant {{manchild}} and Zalgo is StupidEvil, to the point that it makes him predictable and even is a weakness for him.
* EvilFeelsGood: His defining characteristic. He loves all the atrocities and depraved things that aliens and humans alike are capable of. Zalgo is willing to overlook attacks against him and his army so long as they're sufficiently "evil". In fact, in "Legends of the Multiverse", Zalgo even halfheartedly thanked Jeff, expressing some gratitude for foiling Enderman's hairbrained schemes. Although, B.O.B does calls him "a good friend", but seeing as how this is coming from [[TooDumbToLive B.O.B]], the statement rings hollow.

More importantly, he held the intention of wiping out an entire city full of people for the sole purpose of showing of testing a new device; the episode made it explicitly clear Enderman and his team would not stop until they were all dead. Come the actual series, [[VillainDecay he's much more cowardly and benign]], with a characterization that drifts back and forth between "a stereotypical EvilGenius and a bit of an irresponsible curmudgeon" and "irritable {{jerkass}} who gets mad at the Proxies for getting on his lawn"
** He's much more evil, vicious, and level-headed in "The Chain Mail" than any other episode to the point that he sadistically shows excitement and joy when he thinks he's finally killed BEN, not to mention the fact he eradicated any creature in the forest and expressed joy at the thought of killing the rest of the Proxies and enslaving the Dark World.

The Rake is a mysterious creature that many believe might be alien in origin. The Rake is feared for its freakish appearance and for its ferocity to victims. Various accounts also revealed that many encounters often ended in the victims committing suicide. He is also Enderman's top henchman.

* AmusingInjuries: During the MexicanStandoff in "The Chain Mail", he gets shot in the leg... the exact same leg he shot himself in to let Enderman and B.O.B escape in an earlier encounter with the Proxies. He even cries out "Same fucking leg!", as if to say "What are the odds?"
* ArchEnemy: For Smile.
* AxCrazy: He's extremely homicidal in any given situation. This is notable in his first appearance, where he nearly disembowels Smile just for not taking him seriously.
* BeastMan: Not even ''he'' knows what he is.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He comes across as an eccentric, slightly dim-witted goofball, but don't let that fool you. He's more than willing to harm you and your loved ones if you get on his bad side.

* DirtyCoward: He abandons Enderman to die when the Stiltwalker comes chasing them.

Everyone tends to imply that the Rake is a scary, dangerous criminal that you don't want to mess with, and they are definitely not wrong.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His introduction in the very first episode firmly establishes him as an egotistical asshole who clearly has little respect for others, even attempting to disembowel Smile for making some wisecracks. If that doesn't get across that he's not exactly a pleasant guy, the episode "By The Book" (where he tortures BEN using his fear of water, for laughs) certainly does.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He openly admits that Zalgo and X are crazy, even by his standards.
* EvilerThanThou: He pulls this on Enderman multiple times.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: In his third appearance, he almost chokes Eyeless Jack to death for making a few jokes at his expense, and is shown to have a very low tolerance for mirth in general. It also extends to his own attempts at wisecracks - due to his snide, arrogant personality, most of them fall flat.

BOB is a manmade creature that was created by scientists that later escaped. Unlike the Rake, who relies on stealth and cunning, BOB attacks mostly using instinct and ferocity. He later became Enderman's dim-witted henchman.

** She is completely unafraid of the Proxies upon meeting them for the first time.
** While the Rake is attacking, she keeps her cool, dodges every blow, and barks orders at Jeff and BEN to keep ''them'' safe. When she slides off Proxy Mansion's platform she keeps focused and is able to hang on with one hand. She then pulls herself up in time to trap the Rake to a lamppost, saving Jeff's life. Finally, when the three of them are knocked off the building, she has the presence of mind to instantly grab a tree limb and Jeff and BEN's hands as he flies past her, saving them once more.
** In her with Enderman. Even though scared, beaten to the ground and having her face slashed by the Rake, she still manages to annoy him with her constant quipping.
** Even when he's laughing and screaming in her face, Lara looks dead into Zalgo's face and tells him she isn't afraid of him. Keep in mind, this is [[EldritchAbomination ''ZALGO'']] she said his to. A demonic overlord who conquers entire universes and destroys planets for his amusement, and Lara ''wasn't afraid oh him''.
* NiceGirl: Instantly hits it off with Sally.
* OddFriendship: Lara is an enthusiastic and idealistic teenage girl, the Proxies are psychotic serial killers who butchers hundreds for laughs. Once they get past their differences, they become surprisingly good friends.

* AxCrazy: He is clearly not mentally stable, and it's implied he is a SerialKiller not unlike the Proxies.
* BadassGrandpa: He's disarmed a nuclear bomb, solo'd an entire platoon of soldiers in Vietnam, saved the multiverse ''thrice'', owns several hundred sports cars, [[spoiler: and brutally beats down Zalgo alongside the Proxies.]] It can a little hard to believe that he's a little over ''100'' years old.

* {{Foil}}: Serves as one to Jeff. Both are the right-hand mans of their respective masters, Slenderman, and Zalgo. However, Jeff is loud, chipper and bombastic while X is more prone to excited but subdued rambling and rarely speaks above a whisper. Jeff is a dim-witted, incompetent PluckyComicRelief, while X is a competent and [[NoSenseOfHumor humorless monster]]. Jeff would sometimes water down his cruelty with a pronounced sense of humor while X downplays that for more straightforward scares and doubles down on sheer sadism. Finally, Jeff at least has some PetTheDog moments and can be pretty fun to hang around (as long as you stay on his good side), while X doesn't even try.

* BigBad: The most frequently encountered antagonist in the series.
** BigBadWannabe: Even disregarding [[GodOfEvil Zalgo]], sometimes he's too incompetent to pull off an EvilPlan. He lacks Slenderman's pragmatism and strength, the brains of X or Mancala, or the power of Zalgo. Despite his ambition to kill Slenderman and the Proxies and take over the universe, he's easily misled by Mancala, fails to pose a serious challenge to Slenderman during most situations, and is forced to take advice from other enemies.
