* SuperPoerMeltdown: What he worries might happen to him as time goes on. Each generation of quirk users gets stronger but his own body has limits. While his quirk can take any and any number of quirks from others, his body hasn't changed and a time will come when his power is too much for his body to handle. His funding of Dr. Ujiko's research is to find a way to enhance his body to handle the greater power of holding more powerful quirks.

He'll play mind games to get under his opponent's skin, he'll use sneak attacks, he'll use others as human shields, and he'll even threaten innocent bystanders to win. While All Might is something of a bumbling teacher who tries to let Midoriya find out how to use One For All on his own, Sensei goes to incredible lengths to prepare Shigaraki and gives him all the resources he needs to lead the League of Villains. Their powersets are also diametrically opposed. All Might is a cookie-cutter LightningBruiser who beats foes with nothing but sheer speed, power, and his own hand-to-hand combat technique, but All For One is a PowerParasite who uses [[AllYourPowersCombined a multitude of powers]] [[CombinationAttack in tandem with each other for devastating effects]]. Both All Might and All For One are {{Stepford Smiler}}s, yet All Might does this to inspire [[HopeBringer hope]] among innocent people. [[spoiler:In the past, All For One managed to rule over Japan by giving Quirks to those who didn't have any and stealing Quirks from those who either didn't want them or were using them to abuse others. This earned him a legion of loyal followers whose gratitude soon turned to extreme fanaticism to the point that they killed a group of people who refused to join his faction even though he didn't order them to. Of course, he was quite happy with that.]]
* KickTheDog: Spends the entirety of his fight with All Might mocking him. [[spoiler:First, by calling his mentor, Nana Shimura, weak for not having the strength to match her own ideals, next by publicly revealing All Might's emaciated body, and finally revealing that Shigaraki is in fact the LongLostRelative of his former master]]. By the end of it, he mockingly asks All Might why he isn't wearing his trademark victorious smile as the weight of all these revelations crushes All Might's spirit.

* TheLastDance: It's all but explicitly stated that [[spoiler:he knew that in his weakened state he wouldn't be able to win the battle with All Might, even giving Shigaraki some parting final words to "carry on the fight" before sending him and the other villains away against their will. But he still did all he could to do as much damage as possible before he was defeated.]]

* LukeIAmYourFather: An unusual variation. He reveals to All Might that Shigaraki is [[spoiler:the grandson of All Might's master]]. He gets bonus points for being a DarthVaderClone.

* ManipulativeBastard: A specialty of All For One's who manipulates people and events around him without ever getting directly involved. [[spoiler:His gifting of hands to a young Tenko Shimura is perhaps his greatest work. He gifted Tenko with the hands and told him to always keep them with him so that he could never heal from the pain of losing his family. By wearing them it also helped suppress Tenko's memories of the event ''and'' aggravate them more to increase the rage in his heart and complete his Quirk. All to turn Tenko into a Symbol of Fear.]]

* MortonsFork: [[spoiler:Even though he is captured and it is possible to make him give back Ragdoll's Quirk, the whole point of All For One's imprisonment actually working is that he is unable to do ''anything'', thus he cannot perform the action necessary to restore the Quirk to her. Ragdoll has no choice but to remain benched behind a desk.]]

* MyDeathIsOnlyTheBeginning: [[spoiler:He hasn't died, just imprisoned. After All Might beats him, he thinks to himself about how he's already set up Shigaraki to inherit his work and lead the villains.]]

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: He inadvertently created ''One For All''. A transferable power of Quirks that enabled All Might to become a pillar of hope and justice in a world of chaos. A power that cannot be taken forcibly -- meaning he can never recapture it. To further rub salt in the wound, Chapter 213 reveals that One For All not only grows stronger, it can also [[spoiler:stockpile the Quirks of other users and ''drastically'' strengthen them. That feature finally begins to manifest within Midoriya, granting him six additional Quirks besides One For All. In other words, though he forced All Might into retirement, he will soon have to contend with a hero who'll be even ''stronger'' than All Might.]]

** This backfires on him when [[spoiler:he combines fourteen really strong Quirks into one blow to try and kill All Might. The act of doing so means when All Might feints him out, he's already committed to such a heavy blow with such a grotesquely oversized limb that he's left wide open for All Might's counter attack with no real way to dodge or block once it misses.]]
** [[spoiler:He used to kill previous One For All users and their allies by burying them alive under several tons of rubble.]]
* NoNameGiven: Like his brother, his real name is unknown, and he is only referred to by the name of his Quirk. In Chapter 237, All For One reveals his last name to be [[spoiler:Shigaraki.]]

* OhCrap: [[spoiler:Has a brief moment of this in the anime when he realizes All Might's feint wasn't finished and he's about to get smashed into the ground with every ounce of power All Might has left. In the manga, his response is more of a ThisIsGonnaSuck.]]
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:During All Might's fight with him, he mutates his arm into a destructive mass of the effects of several powerful Quirks]].
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: All For One is only known by his villain identity. His true identity is a complete mystery and it takes over two hundred chapters before we get even the smallest detail. This is true even among the holders of One For All, despite the first of them being All For One's brother. All For One's identity has been lost over the years to the point that All Might didn't immediately realize the connection between Tomura Shigaraki and All For One even though it's revealed in Chapter 237 that [[spoiler:"Shigaraki" is All For One's surname]].

* PetTheDog: He may have ulterior motives for it, but no one can deny he gave Shigaraki a better standard of living. [[spoiler:And when Shigaraki failed, he simply gave some encouragement, closing with the phrase "Everything is for your sake."]]
* PlayAlongPrisoner: All but states outright that he can break free from Tartarus at anytime he wants and only stays there because [[spoiler:it will force his protégé, Shigaraki, to become independent and develop as a villainous mastermind]].

* PsychicLink: Heavily implied to have awakened one with [[spoiler:Midoriya.]]

* ShroudedInMyth: All For One's backstory and [[ForTheEvulz motives]] are really vague. Even his own protégé, Shigaraki is not aware of this. No one even knows about his real name. The public is largely unaware of his existence until recent events. The audience does not know how All For One actually looked like before he fought All Might. All Might lampshades that no one knows whether All For One transferred a Quirk on his brother out of [[AmbiguouslyEvil kindness or to force him to submission]]. Even the first fight between All For One and All Might is not very well known. This mildly subverted in Chapter 193 where the spirit of All For One's little brother shows past memories to Midoriya, to answer some questions. All For One still remains a mystery, though. Chapter 237 reveals that [[spoiler:his surname is Shigaraki.]]
* TheSociopath: All For One carries all the traits of a classic sociopath: He has no empathy or remorse for all the things he has done, shamelessly bragging to his brother about how his followers had wiped out a faction of Quirk users who refused to join him. He views others as mere pawns to be used. He lies and manipulates others with ease. He's a {{Sadist}} who enjoys getting under other people's skin, often taunting All Might about the death of his mentor. He is incredibly arrogant and condescending to the point of megalomania and is charismatic enough to gain a loyal following of villains to serve under him. Even his taking in Tomura as his apprentice wasn't done out of altruism, but as a means of getting back at All Might by grooming [[spoiler:Nana Shimura's grandson]] to be his successor:

* SoProudOfYou: Has his moments with Shigaraki in an odd villainous way. He congratulates and praises him during multiple occasions, namely when he finally figures out a motive for his actions (All Might) and shows mental growth by declaring [[spoiler: the kidnapped Bakugo]] to be a "valuable piece".

* StoryBreakerPower: Even for a first generation Quirk user, All For One's Quirk is extremely powerful and advantageous. All For One can steal Emitter, Transformation and Mutant Quirks. He can easily DePower entire crowds of Quirk users. All For One can defeat several top heroes with absurd ease. The only Quirk that is immune to his power is One For All, [[spoiler:which can only be willingly transferred to someone else. Also, One For All evolves with every passing generation, so even if All For One could steal it, there is a strong risk of Quirk overload.]]
* StrongerWithAge: Played with. As time went by, he did have the opportunity to collect more and more Quirks, thus growing in direct power. However, All For One's body has no innate capacity to grow along with the power it needs to support, and with several centuries of life under his belt, he became concerned that his body would eventually break down and lose control over his many Quirks. This became more of an issue due to the Quirk Singularity, in which Quirks became more complex and powerful with each generation, and thus harder for him to properly take and control. His Quirk may be powerful, but ultimately, it's still a first-generation Quirk. [[spoiler:A good chunk of Dr. Ujiko's research was dedicated to augmenting him so that he would be able to properly handle this power]].
* SuperPrototype: He's from the first generation of Quirk users and has perhaps the single strongest Quirk in the world. Especially notable because Quirks are supposedly becoming more powerful as time goes on, with some grade school children wielding Quirks with the potential to be stronger than those of top heroes, and yet the generations out of date All for One still remains the strongest. [[spoiler:Of course, even he recognized this wouldn't always be the case if he ever started taking on Quirks too powerful for his body to handle.]]

* TailorMadePrison: [[spoiler:After All Might beats him the second time, he's put in one. He's kept in straitjacket on a chair, with multiple automated guns ready to shoot the moment he makes suspicious movement or activates his Quirk.]]
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: [[spoiler:In the manga, his reaction to All Might's final attack is more subdued, but still shows the only time his confidence falters. He grits his teeth and tells All Might to give it his best, showing while he's not recoiling like in the anime, he still knows exactly what's coming and how much it's going to hurt.]]

** All For One even cites this as the reason why he doesn't want Best Jeanist's Fiber Master Quirk: Taking someone like [[WeakButSkilled Best Jeanist's]] Quirk, where most of the power comes from years of training and intimate knowledge of what it can and can't do, is much less attractive to him since he won't be able to use it to its full potential right off the bat, versus an unsubtle but powerful Quirk like super strength.
