* BigBad: As the creator of the Heaven Smiles. The plot ends up focusing on other things by the end, making his status as this unclear, though.

A terrorist organization [[TerroristsWithoutACause hell-bent on causing terror for its own sake]], headed by Kun Lan. Heaven Smiles are ordinary people infected by a virus that turns them into strangely coloured, ever-smirking, ever-cackling zombies, whose only means of attack is suicide-bombing their target. They are still easily dispatched [[AttackItsWeakPoint by shooting their weak points]], turning them into clouds of blood.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: She is always barefoot, giving her the nickname of barefoot. She is barefoot by choice

[[TheSmurfettePrinciple The only girl]]. A sarcastic yet downtrodden woman with a permanent bloodstain on her dress and no shoes, giving her the nickname "Barefoot". She can [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic slit her wrists]] and use the ensuing RainOfBlood to destroy hidden barriers, as well as absorb other blood into herself. Her [[SniperPistol pistol has a very handy scope]]. Notably, when written in Japanese, her name uses kanji instead of katakana (yes, even the Smith).

* KickChick: Both of her counters.

* DepartmentofRedundancyDepartment: It's hard to make out but he begins most of his speeches with phrases like "Master, it is dangerous, it is dangerous, dangerous!".

* ScriptedBattle: When you finally fight them, it's in a series of one-on-one matchups. Technically, you have control over the characters, but the Handsome Men only attack when you do, and the same characters win and lose every time.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: KAEDE is codenamed "Barefoot" as she runs around, well, barefoot. In her official art she is seen wearing high heels, which perhaps justifies this as she wouldn't be able to run around very effectively in heels.

* DidntSeeThatComing: [[spoiler:Con was listening to headphones and looking out a window before he died, unable to hear Emir killing Kevin below or enter his own room; someone so dependent on hearing thanks to his blindness ''literally'' had no way of realizing his killer was right behind him.]]

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: [[spoiler:She's the first of the Smiths that directly encountered Emir without being taken off-guard. And, being a ''sniper'' rather than a close-range combatant and caught in what amounts to her sleep clothes, she runs and hides -- and swiftly dies without a fight when Emir plugs her body with bullets while she's in a closet.]]

* OneManArmy: Downplayed in ''Lion'', where [[spoiler:Emir killing the Smiths was entirely by catching them off-guard without a straight fight, besides his confrontation of Dan at the end.]] Then played straight in the PlayableEpilogue, where his lock-on and golden gun are so powerful that he can OneHitKill all of the Smiles in his path without even having to bother with weak points, slaughtering hordes within seconds.

* YouKillItYouBoughtIt: [[spoiler:Murdering the [=killer7=] and then carrying their weapons around once he reincarnated as Garcian implies that Harman's manipulations effectively turned Emir into a guilt-trapped, psychologically blanked successor of the Smiths. It stays this way until he finally realizes who he ''really'' was again, and goes back to his golden gun, no longer needing to rely on the other personalities and their weapons whatsoever.]]

* YouKillItYouBoughtIt: [[spoiler:Murdering the [=killer7=] and then carrying their weapons around once he reincarnated as Garcian implies that Harman's manipulations effectively turned Emir into a guilt-trapped, psychologically blanked successor of the Smiths. It stays this way until he finally realizes who he ''really'' was again, and goes back to his golden gun.]]

* PetTheDog: In Alter Ego, he gives spare change to the Singer and actually holds a relatively polite conversation with him.

* ADateWithRosiePalms: Mentioned. "We're talking guys who beat off ''four times a day!''"

* BadassBaritone: Boasts the deepest voice in the Smith Syndicate.

* KarmicDeath: Gets shot by the man he supposedly killed, and he gets killed by the machine he uses to cleanse the little girls of their organs.

* BadassGrandpa: A very villainous one. He's somewhere in his fifties and is a vicious assassin.

* TheRedBaron: He's known as 'The Hellion'.

* MalevolentMaskedMen: AYAME's [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animegao_kigurumi ''kigurumi'']] mask is part of what makes her such a memorable antagonist. The bug-eyed anime features stick out in a game where characters have realistically-rendered faces. [[UncannyValley This contrast creates a rather eerie effect]], which isn't helped by her holding a completely realistic submachine gun. She looks less like a cosplayer and more like a masked terrorist... which is kind of what she ''is'', given that she's working for Heaven Smile.
