* Protagonist: The story starts when Ros awakens, after all.
Marie is a member of the Inquiry, having been there a long time. She seems to be one of the oldest members, having been alive since before people had to stop breeding. She's essentially Ros's second-in-command, and has the trust of many of the people around her.
* DeadpanSnarker: She has her moments.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: She's Ros's second-in-command and the second most important character to the story.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Although she's hardly frozen, she does gain a softer side for you.
* TheLancer: She's your second-in-command, after all.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Marie is one of the oldest people in the universe.
* ShipTease: With Rami.
* TitleDrop: Marie gives on in the optimist ending [[spoiler: while watching the sunrise with Rami.]]

* DoomedByCanon: [[spoiler: The Black One kills Tez after he lands in the Shra Lowlands during the epilogue, leading to his deceased condition in TheReconstruction.]]
