* SpeakingSimlish: Every character speaks mostly by babbling incoherently while gesturing. Every once in a while if you pay attention, you can sometimes hear actual words being mumbled out, mostly by Lumpy.

Added DiffLines:

* SpeakingSimlish: Lumpy babbles about as much as the rest of the cast, but every once in a while one can actual words being mumbled out of him. Ex. in "Sea What I Found" he says ''"Heeey! Ready to go?"'' to Russell, in "Doggone It" he mumbles out ''"I'm on my way!"'' over the phone and lets out an astonished ''"What the hell...?"'' when the dog escapes his net, and in "Kitchen Kringle" he yells out an annoyed ''"C'mon, God damn it!"'' while trying to get his lighter to work.

%%* SecondEpisodeIntroduction: In the televised series, Disco Bear and Flippy make their first appearances in the second episode "Lesser of Two Evils" as the stars of their own shorts. Flaky, Handy and The Mole also make their debut as the stars ever since the first episode relegated them to background and brief appearances.

Unsure if it's wholly applicable for a series of shorts, but still interesting to note

There are, however, multiple times where he has directly killed another character deliberately. deliberately mostly because they were in his way of some candy.

* CharacterDevelopment: After the events of "False Alarm", Nutty seemed to have gained control over his sugar intake. Telling by this, it seems like the therapy he received from Doctor Sniffles actually worked. Well, until his next starring role, but in some episodes where he is prominent beforehand, Nutty's sugar addiction didn't play a role in his deaths or even resurfaced.

* ThroughTheEyesOfMadness: In "A Sight for Sore Eyes", when Nutty accidentally sliced the very tips of his eyeballs off and [[ItMakesSenseInContext Russell picked one up to wear under the mistake they're his prescription contacts]], Russell is confused by the sight of what looks like actual candy growing from trees before his vision is blocked by blood. If one takes some of his daydreams at face value, he also sees candy as bright and living things that want him to eat them.

to:

* BlindMistake: His biggest form of comedy. He has a tendency to mistake gruesome objects for more commonplace ones.ones and gets other Tree Friends killed one way or another. What certainly doesn't help matters is that he's also mute and likely partially deaf, which means almost no one can keep him from making even more blind mistakes until he leaves or dies.

* FeelNoPain: On top of his blindness, deafness, muteness and almost no sense of danger, he doesn't usually seem to feel much pain, barely reacting to some injuries if he's hit or stuck in something dangerous.

* {{Irony}}: Aside from a common setup being him being given jobs a blind person really, really shouldn't have, "A Sight For Sore Owes" shows that his house is full of quite a lot of things a blind person has no use for. Documents and files scatter his floor, he "reads" the newspaper, paints as a hobby, collects multiple shelfs worth of books and picture frames, owns a set of binoculars, always keeps his lamp light on and always makes sure to turn it off when he's actually sitting next to it, owns a car and a garage, and has a telescope pointed outside.

* {{Leitmotif}}: A low metal guitar riff often plays when Flippy is losing control of himself.

* NoodleIncident: He's already dead in his appearance in "A Change of Heart", with Lumpy finding him with an eye gouged out and his chest torn open next to a dead whale. The implication is that he was somehow flying a plane (note the lack of arms) and accidentally crashed into a whale (note the lack of oceans) in the middle of a field, which doesn't even help explain the state he was found in.

* RunningGag: His lack of arms getting in the way of him doing something almost always has the exact same moment of realization and frustrated AsideGlance to the audience when it happens. Petunia is quick to borrow it when she loses her arms.
* SignatureHeadgear: He's never seen without his construction helmet on, and it's a pretty damn sturdy one too as it's saved him from falling objects and heavy impacts against his head, at least until something just so happens to hit him just below it.

* TheSociopath: With the exception of Petunia and The Mole (because they're close to him), he doesn't really care or at least isn't fazed by any deaths happening to the other characters around him. A good example is when Nutty got impaled on a carnival set while Handy straight up didn't care and was more moved by him winning the toss game (in "The Wrong Side of the Tracks"). Bonus points for just laughing at Cuddles for losing HIS hands.

to:

* DissonantLaughter: He sometimes laughs while he dies.he's in unimaginable pain [[DieLaughing and occasionally while he's in his death rattles]].

* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: As the smartest character in the show, Sniffles is placed pretty much everywhere you'd need someone with a doctorate or PHD to work at. Biology, engineering, medical science, class nerd, physicist, next to Lumpy he's one of the more versatile characters when it comes to jobs. He also sometimes has a pilots certificate.

* RunningGag: Her quills are ''very'' frequently used as a way to make matters worse, whether if it's because she forgot about them and accidentally destroyed something with them, she gets herself stuck against something by backing into it or falling on her back, if [[GrievousHarmWithABody she's swung around like a weapon]], or if she's killed via explosion, shredding or spinning which then causes her quills to shoot around as deadly projectiles.

* TheStoic: Due to the fact that his face is covered all the time and he's completely voiceless, he shows no emotion whatsoever, no matter what the situation. Justified, as he is blind, so he can't really see what's exciting, depressing, or scary.

to:

* TheStoic: Due to the fact that his face is covered all the time and he's completely voiceless, he shows no emotion whatsoever, no matter what the situation. Justified, as he is blind, so he can't really see what's exciting, depressing, or scary. One of the biggest exceptions to this trait was seen in "Don't Yank My Chain", where Mole is very visibly panicked and outraged at Lumpys mistake over arresting him and Handy, and later is able to at least sense incoming danger well enough to be shocked and terrified.

* CharacterCatchphrase: "Oh yeah."

to:

* CharacterCatchphrase: "Oh yeah."A confident and suave ''"Oh yeah...!"'' In his more depressive moments, he instead lets out an ''"Oh no..."''

Added DiffLines:

* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Zig-zagged in "Easy Comb, Easy Go", Disco Bear is rather rightfully screaming in abject terror and agony as hair grows out of his eyes and he powers through the pain to shave his eyes off with a razor blade. After he falls into the tub of hair growth serum and grows out so much hair to completely overflow his house, he seems pretty satisfied with the results and lets out a proud ''"Oh yeah."'' before the short ends.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Leitmotif}}: A low metal guitar riff often plays when Flippy is losing control of himself.

Added DiffLines:

* TheMisophonic: On top of his crippling PTSD and split personality issue, he also just has little patience for loud and annoying noises in general. "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow" has him wake up in a bad mood because of Lumpys ridiculously loud commotion, "Random Acts of Silence" has nothing in particular that reminded him of the war but he still went on a rampage because Sniffles, Nutty and Mime kept making noise in his library, and "In Over Your Hedge" again has Lumpy annoying Flippy by using multiple gardening tools with loud motors near him when he's trying to relax outside.

* CosmicPlaything: While everyone has their moments, Handy is ''especially'' put into situations beyond his control. Take "Don't Yank My Chain" as an example, where Handy's logical attempt to break the chain he was strapped to results in his death. His permanent status as an amputee doesn't help, and even beyond the gruesome events, Handy is rarely given a happy ending to begin with. Even Lifty and Shifty are [[ThrowTheDogABone thrown more bones]]. Even if the given situation doesn't involve hands, it's likely to result at Handy's expense.
