* {{Gaslighting}}: In ''Rebirth,'' Sephiroth makes use of this to weaken Cloud's grip on his identity and his trust in his allies. He insinuates that Tifa is a Jenova copy until Cloud attempts to kill her in a paranoid fit, and then begins to cast doubt on Cloud's own emotional state, either calling him a hollow puppet or a deluded lunatic.

* ShowsDamage: Lifeclinger gets progressively more damaged as the fight goes on. This does have an affect on the gameplay, it loses several attacks that utilize its chest growth. In return it becomes much more aggressive with what attacks it can still use.

* DegradedBoss: Yin & Yang is a frequent opponent in simulator matches, and almost always treated as a high-tier normal enemy rather than a boss.

* TurnsRed: Inflicting too much damage to just one head will kill it and cause the other to go berserk, making its damage output skyrocket to levels that are almost a guaranteed kill if Cait Sith isn't prepared to take the other head out right away.

* UnskilledButStrong: Palmer's lack of skill as a pilot means that most of his attempts to direct the Anuran Suppressor result in it toppling over after its attacks in a vulnerable state. However, it makes up for this by having a variety of weapons at its disposal and can even hurt the party by falling on them.

* UnreliableNarrator: He claims that the Cetra refused to help his people, and noticeably does not elaborate on fact that the [[spoiler:Black Materia will destroy the Planet]]. However, gathering the Region Intel of Cosmo Canyon would reveal that Cetra did indeed try to help the Gi and made attempts to live peacefully with them. Naturally, the Cetra had to draw the line when they found out the Gi were attempting a [[spoiler:SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum by using the Black Materia they created]].

* CameBackWrong: There are various implications that even though the combination of being BarredFromTheAfterlife and being capable of regenerating from nearly any injury has rendered Jenova immortal, she's still far from unharmed by her death and regeneration. Compared to the hologram of her seen in the Temple of the Ancients, her current incarnations are visibly more asymmetrical, and she now lacks whatever intellect or talent for subterfuge she might have once possessed, implying Jenova was rendered braindead by the Cetra and now acts only on her body's base instincts. Fortunately, or unfortunately, Sephiroth is there to fill that void.

The exact nature of Sephiroth and Jenova's relationship is too under-explored to pin down accurately. While Seph is ostensibly exorcising his full will, given the fact that his actions are all playing into Jenova's own intents, there's an argument to be made that he may be under More Than Mind Control and is ironically being Jenova's puppet himself. But nothing is confirmed yet.

* TheDragon: She becomes this to Sephiroth near the end of part 1 and like the original game Sephiroth uses Jenova like a puppet and to disguise as Sephiroth himself.

* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: Subdued but still there in ''Rebirth'', and three times at that. The first is when he realizes the White Materia is powered up again in this active timeline, after his use of the Whispers to strip Aerith's memories post-''Remake'' seemingly depowered it. His remark of "[[SoreLoser Very poor form]]" practically comes off as being genuinely surprised and ''irritated'' that Aerith actually managed to use his own interdimensional tricks to swap the Materia and undo his plan, almost like complaining about a cheap move at chess. It happens again when Zack hops timelines and joins Cloud at the Edge of Creation. When Sephiroth spots him and Cloud together he's visibly shocked by it, if only for a moment before regaining his composure. Then there's an empowered Aerith suddenly emerging to join Cloud in the final fight at the Edge of Creation, and they ''beat him'' this time, though in this case Sephiroth actually offers some VillainRespect towards her for managing this feat.
