* AdaptationDisplacement - His CartwrightCurse in the anime trilogy, borders highly on NeverLiveItDown; when people think of his love life they often think of his dead love interests in the anime a lot more than Blue Mary, his perfectly alive one in the games. (Though the fact that SNK has been doing little ShipTease between them, if any, in the The King of Fighters doesn't help.) While FatalFury: The Motion Picture was not a bad movie, things like this are one of the reasons why it's a shame that Fatal Fury 3 didn't get a animated adaptation. Of course, if Blue Mary was ever in a 90's Fatal Fury anime, it would get folks to wonder if that would've averted this once and for all or made things a whole lot worse.

** Andy pretty much sees this as a LikeBrotherAndSister moment; having lived most of his life with Mai, he has a hard time adequately returning her affections. The status quo is kept in the second anime special (minus an epic asskicking of Laurence for harming her), but this is finally averted in TheMovie, where they actually share a kiss after Andy trounces Hauer and Mai finishes Panni.

* MostAnnoyingSound: The "OOOOOOOUUUUUUAAAAAAAAGH" sound he makes when you hit him. Not so prevalent in the Fatal Fury series but it cropped up quite a bit in early KOF titles. Later games (KOF series notwithstanding) put the psychopathy front and center, making Yamazaki into the nutter we all know and love, which puts into perspective how TropesAreNotBad.

* AdaptationDisplacement - His CartwrightCurse in the anime trilogy, borders highly on NeverLiveItDown; when people think of his love life they often think of his dead love interests in the anime a lot more than his perfectly alive one in the games. Of course, if Blue Mary was ever in a 90's Fatal Fury anime, it would get folks to wonder if that would've averted this once and for all or made things a whole lot worse.

blond.

* MostAnnoyingSound: The "OOOOOOOUUUUUUAAAAAAAAGH" sound he makes when you hit him. Not so prevalent in the Fatal Fury series but it cropped up quite a bit in early KOF titles. It got ridiculous in 99 onward where for no apprent reason they made it his KO cry. You will hear this especially in 2002 and Unlimited Match, where he groans this practically every time you hit him.

* Flanderization - Believe it or not, there was a time when (as early as his first appearence in Fatal Fury 3, in fact) while we won't say he was wholly sane, he had a lot less screws loose, his in-game mannerisms then being a good deal more calmer, with the occasional ManiacalLaugh (hell, in Fatal Fury 3 and RBFF, it used to be a darkly sly little chuckle), to the point where his psychopathy would be considered more an InformedFlaw. Later games (KOF series notwithstanding) put the psychopathy front and center, making Yamazaki into the nutter we all know and love, which puts into perspective how TropesAreNotBad.

* NoSocialSkills - Rock can function normally in society, but since he grew up surrounded mainly by men, he's flustered by women, hence his shy reaction to B. Jenet (whom he suggests to get less revealing clothes). However, this doesn't stop him from helping those in need (as seen in his interactions with Hotaru).

Unless you're an OriginalGeneration character (namely Kyo, Iori, Antihero K', or Ash), expect to become TheArtifact. In Fatal Fury? There's a reason Terry is the only character who returned for Garou.
