* HateSink: ''X'' had a subtle rival system where characters related to yours, be they friends or enemies, would be placed next to yours at the start of a Grand Prix and would subsequently do better and be more likely to become the "main rival". Beastman is by far the most "hated" character, being an "enemy" of every non-human racer and [[WildChild Baba]].

* UnknownRival: He seems to be this to Bio Rex, his self-proclaimed ArchEnemy. Aside from ''X'''s rival mechanic, Bio Rex doesn't specifically acknowledge him in any way; Beastman stated in an interview that he wants to make a helmet out of Bio Rex's head and his profile states that he wants to protect the other racers from his carnivorous nature whereas Bio Rex views every other racer as another delicious meal... except for [[ButtMonkey Samurai Goroh]].

* CloningBlues: And guess what? ''He's not the only one.''

A mercenary and AcePilot, James [=McCloud=] is the leader of [[VideoGame/StarFox Galaxy Dog]], a group that combats galactic threats. Because mercenary work is hard to find during times of peace, James competes in ''F-Zero'' races as an alternate source of income, so that he can support his wife and son. As noted elsewhere in this section, Mrs. Arrow is one of the more seasoned competitors and can be quite brutal on the racetrack, though she's very friendly and personable otherwise.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: With his former partner-in-crime Goroh, until he took the fall for Goroh during a mission.

* GadgeteerGenius: He converted an old F-1 fighter jet into Beastman's Hyper Speeder. More generally, Dr. Clash played a major role in developing F-Zero technology and holds numerous patents.

* NitroBoost: The main strength of his ''Night Thunder'' racer. To make up for the poor top speed on straight-ways the vehicle has one of the most powerful boosts.

** Partially Subverted. While he does genuinely prefer older designs of racers, the main reason he refuses to upgrade the Night Thunder is because that car was custom built for him by his best friend (before said friend died) and that friend uploaded an engram of his mind into the car, so upgrading even it's secondary systems could permanently erase the last remenants of him.

* TheyDontMakeThemLikeTheyUsedTo: Is very adamant on this. Often deriding newer models of racers as inferior to older designs.
