* HollywoodDateless: Lexi is supposed to be a more isolated, down to earth character who's unlucky in love and regarded as less pretty than Cassie. She has been asked out before and almost immediately in Season 2 forms a very close bond with Fez.

* ButNotTooBlack: After [=McKay=]'s departure, Rue and Gia are the only two regular Black characters, and both are mixed-race.

* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: When she sees Lexi’s play, she chastises Lexi for making it, based on her opinion that Lexi is judging her and their friends, when in reality, Lexi created the play so she have a healthy outlet for her feelings about her life.

* NeverMyFault: After her [[affair with Nate is finally exposed, Cassie refuses to take any responsibilty for hurting Maddy. She repeatedly insists that she's 'not the bad guy', because they were broken up at the time, glossing over that she repeatedly slept with her best friend's absuive ex.]]

* {{Hypocrite}}: She becomes full of hypocrisy in Season 2. Despite the below trope, Cassie blames her friends and family for half the things she herself did. [[spoiler: Namely accusing Lexi of being an AttentionWhore for the play and using it to judge others when she herself did the same thing by making all the issues about herself and overshadowing Lexi and judged Rue, Lexi and Maddy for their flaws, weaknesses and perceived wrongdoings (she judged Maddy for being "toxic" for Nate before her birthday party and later, judged Rue for her drug addiction and exposing her affair with Nate) and then accuses them of betraying her when she herself betrayed Maddy and Lexi throughout Season 2. She even claims Rue to be a horrible selfish woman who uses others and discards them when no longer needed and shames Lexi's friendship with her when Cassie herself did the same and even abandoned and bullied Maddy after the latter found out about her affair with Nate.]]
* JerkassHasAPoint: [[spoiler: Her behavior throughout season 2 was terrible, but she is not wrong when she says that it was bad of Lexi to write a play about her to humiliate her in front of the school. ]]

* MrFanservice: While fans unanimously found his behaviour to be loathsome and the series depicts him as a violent ManipulativeBastard, Nate is still played by the handsome, muscular Jacob Elordi. The creators seem aware of this, giving him copious ShirtlessScene moments as well as shots of his butt in the first season. Downplayed as many of his sex scenes - particularly with Maddy - are exploitative and played for FanDisservice. Likewise in Season 1 Episode 2, the fanservice-y shots of his body post-ShowerScene are interspersed with close-up shots of Tyler on the floor, bloodied and barely breathing after Nate has brutally beaten him.

* InformedPoverty: Maddy comes from a low income family, yet is always seen wearing high quality clothes and make up.

* TheSociopath: It's clear he takes pleasure in tormenting Kat and Cassie and enjoys breaking them for fun.

* CuteAndPsycho: [[spoiler: She is shown to be very beautiful and sweet but is very menacing and dreaded if she is pushed over the edge by anyone. Lexi and Maddy learn this the hard way.]]

* DumbBlonde: A guy she hooks up with implies that she is this. But as [=McKay=] points out, she's plenty smart - it's just that most people overlook it due to her being blonde and promiscuous.

[[spoiler: This proves to be her downfall in Season 2 when she starts going after Nate, knowing this will devastate Maddy, resulting in her losing her friends, family and her sanity and ability to feel emotions and empathy for others in the process.]]

* SmallNameBigEgo: [[spoiler: After she starts an affair with Nate, Cassie ends up slowly becoming even more narcissistic and egoistical due to the attention she gets from him and learning about how he uses his anger and sociopathy to have power and control over everything, which she finds interesting and inherits from him in order to protect her ego. It is even best shown when she refuses to take responsibility for her atrocities, especially her betrayal of Maddy and bullying others in retaliation due to her fragile ego.]]

* ThenLetMeBeEvil: [[spoiler:After Nate breaks up with her, she interrupts Lexi's play and talks about how since Lexi and her peers see her as a villain, she might as well live up to it. This lasts for about a minute before Maddy beats her up and leaves Cassie in a quiet and embarrassed state in the school bathroom. However, it's unknown if she will really follow through with her threats even after that and strike back at Maddy and others in the future for adding further fuel to the fire.]]

* TookALevelInJerkass: In Season 2. [[spoiler:She sleeps with Nate shortly after he and Maddy broke up, showing little remorse of how Maddy would feel and only caring about getting Nate’s attention (and how Maddy would kill her if she finds out). When Rue outs her affair with Nate, she (unsuccessfully) tries to throw Rue under the bus by saying she can’t be trusted because she’s a drug addict. She also becomes a lot meaner and desensitised once she gets exposed, repeatedly screaming at her mother for not taking her side, insulting Lexi for criticizing her terrible behavior, and flaunting her relationship with Nate to Maddy. This all culminates in her having a public meltdown during Lexi's play, during which she calls out her sister for humiliating her and accuses her of being "a bystander." It's possible that Cassie will get even worse in Season 3 as the play was just the preview of [[MakeAnExampleOfThem how she will punish her former friends]] if they slight her again.]]
* TragicVillain: [[spoiler: By the end of Season 2, as a result of her trauma and her obsession with Nate, Cassie not only lost her friends and family but also her sanity and humanity altogether, resulting in her abandoning her friends and family and seeing them as her enemies.]]

She initially thinks this is a game and bluffs remarkably well, until Nate starts playing Russian Roulette ''on top'' of her. Mercilessly exploiting her lingering feelings for him, she breaks and surrenders the disk. Afterwards Maddy's so shaken, she pulls a ScrewThisImOuttaHere.]]

* ArmouredClosetGay: [[spoiler:It's implied that his bigotry is at least partially born out of some repressed same-sex attraction. His distaste and attraction for Jules, a trans girl, ends up bringing him out even more.]]

* TheDragon: A non-villainous example; he's Fezco's right-hand man and seems to handle the day-to-day and distribution side of their business. While Fez is slow to respond to business complications, Ashtray usually takes decisive action to solve problems. [[spoiler:The two biggest plot events in their arc, the killings of Mouse and Custer, occur by his hand.]]
