!!Daisy

Daisy is a female pug. She lives with Oscar as a stern mother figure of sorts and becomes one of Shep's helpers.
----
* ToughLove: After Oscar gets the pack into trouble, Daisy treats him rather coldly. Shep asks if she's being too tough on Oscar, and she says with some sadness that if she had been tougher on Oscar, he wouldn't have acted the way he did.
* VerbalTic: Because of her anatomy, she often snorts while she talks.

* LikeASonToMe: Fuzz mentions that he helped raise Honey ever since she was a puppy, so her death hits him really hard.

* TookALevelInKindness: Downplayed. Fuzz becomes friendlier with Shep after Honey's death and even becomes one of his closest advisors, though he still retains his snarky attitude.

* WhatTheHellHero: When Shep refuses to let Fuzz join the pack in spite of being declawed, Honey retorts that if that's the case, then she doesn't want to be in his pack. She snaps at Shep for being uncaring about the dogs killing a cat.

* [[PoliticallyIncorrectHero Politically Incorrect Anti Hero]]: Like Shep and Zeus in ''The Storm'', she shows some disdain towards yappers at first. But unlike Zeus, Blaze seems to interact normally with them eventually.

* PutOnABus: She doesn't reappear again in ''The Return'', one of the dogs saying that she was most likely adopted by humans.

* InsistentTerminology: This part:
-->'''Blaze''': Looks like the pack has lost faith in their hero, Shep the Great Woof.

to:

* TheNicknamer: Frizzle calls Shep "big nose" and Boji "Bo-jellies".

* {{Catchphrase}}: "Oh, hang it all!"

!!Oscar

Oscar is a male dachshund puppy. He looks up to Shep ever since the latter promises to find his mother for him.
----
* BreakTheCutie: ''The Pack'' transforms him in a bad way. He starts worshipping Shep like a god, but the more Oscar goes into his fan club, the more aggressive and bitter he becomes. Fortunately, he bounces almost back to normal at the end of the book.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: A dachshund puppy and his adult German shepherd friend.
* SaveTheVillain: He wants to help Zeus get around with a hurt leg, in spite of the other dogs' protests.

* WhatTheHellHero: Fuzz is prone to calling out Shep's faults whenever something bad happens. But when Honey dies from her wounds from Zeus, Fuzz flat-out screeches at Shep for leaving him and Honey to face Zeus alone.

to:

* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Cat]]: In ''The Return'', while some of the other dogs whine about wanting to go home or scold Shep for being mean to humans, Fuzz does neither of those things. He even tells Shep that while he makes mistakes, he's still trying to keep them together.
* TrueCompanions: In the end of the series, Shep and Fuzz become close friends and even live together when the humans return.

----
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She wants to help other pets in need and is shocked that the dogs actually kill and eat a cat.
* WhatTheHellHero: When Shep refuses to let Fuzz join the pack in spite of being declawed, Honey retorts that if that's the case, then she doesn't want to be in his pack. She snaps at Shep for being uncaring about the dogs killing a cat.

----
* AntiHero: She's willing to help serve the pack, but her aggressive nature makes it hard for her to get along with other dogs.
* CruelToBeKind: Blaze believes that, even if it hurts her to stand up to Shep since she cares about him, an alpha needs to be strong.
* HotBlooded: She's ready to jump at the opportunity to keep the dogs surviving, even whipping up an anti-cat frenzy and pressuring Shep into driving Fuzz out.
* TheNicknamer: Blaze is fond of calling Shep "my shepherd" or "hero".
* [[PoliticallyIncorrectHero Politically Incorrect Anti Hero]]: Like Shep and Zeus in ''The Storm'', she shows some disdain towards yappers at first. But unlike Zeus, Blaze seems to interact normally with them eventually.

Higgins is a Brussels Griffon whose accent hints a British accent. He's also very knowledgeable about dog breeds due to wanting to be like his owner, who collects butterflies.
----
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: In ''The Pack'', while Shep was looking for Honey and Fuzz, Higgins gets killed by Zeus off-screen.
* TheSmartGuy: Along with Callie, Higgins is one of the smartest dogs in the pack.

!!Dover

Dover is an old male Labrador retriever. He was a hunting dog in the swamps before moving to the city.
----

!!Shep

Shep is a male German shepherd and the main protagonist of the trilogy. He lives a good life with his Boy in Miami, Florida, until a hurricane forces his owners to evacuate and leave him behind. At first reluctant to leave home, Shep finds himself becoming the alpha of a big group of dogs left behind in the storm
----
* AGodIAmNot: In the latter half of ''The Pack'', he tries in vain to tell the other dogs that he's not his hero, the Great Wolf.
* DogStereotype: He's the brave and heroic German shepherd of the story.
* HeroicDog: Of the German shepherd variety.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Being a German shepherd, he's bigger than his pug-mixed friend Callie.
* IWillFindYou: In a non-romantic way in ''The Pack'', he tells Callie he'll find her at where the humans take her.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: He may be heroic and brave, but he's pretty prejudiced against small dogs ("yappers") and cats. The trilogy shows him shedding this attitude.
* ShamedByAMob: He goes through this in every book. In ''The Storm'', he gets dirty looks for accidentally crushing Dover's tail under some wood. In ''The Pack'', he gets these most of the time for not being decisive on how to handle pack affairs, like running out of water or not getting rid of snakes. In ''The Return'', he gets scolded a lot for being mean to humans, even if he's well-meaning in trying to keep them safe.

!!Callie

Callie is a little pug/Jack Russell mixed breed who eventually becomes Shep's best friend. During the storm, she develops the brains between the duo.
----
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Callie had wanted to run free one day, just for one day, with no humans around. Well, the storm does a good job in bringing that reality to life.
** In a more serious manner, Callie decides to try eating plants to save up on food. Eating the wrong kind of plants makes her terribly sick.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Because Callie is a pug mix, she's smaller than her German shepherd friend Shep.
* [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]]: Out of the duo of her and Shep, she has more brains.

!!Zeus

Zeus is a boxer and one of the main antagonists of the trilogy. He was Shep's best friend before the hurricane hits and is very disdainful towards "yappers". He ends up leaving to form his own pack, swearing that he and Shep will fight for real one day.
----
* BigBadEnsemble: Along with [[BloodKnight Kaz]], [[WellIntentionedExtremist Blaze]], and wild dogs, he's one of the main bad guys of the trilogy.
* EvilFormerFriend: Once he was Shep's friend before the hurricane, but Shep wanting to protect the small dogs along with other dogs sets them up as enemies.
* HeelFaceTurn: At the end of ''The Return'', he makes a genuine turn for the good.
