* DudeWheresMyRespect: At first in Crimea, despite already having earned a reputation as a genius surgeon, Elise couldn't affect much of any changes done to the state of the field hospital due to her lack of actual rank and authority, forcing her to request said authority from Linden.

[[folder:Linden de Romanoff]]
!!Crown Prince Linden de Romanoff | Ron

The Crown Prince of the Britta Empire. Linden is the deuteragonist of the story and Elise's main love interest. In her first life, Elise was in love with him and eventually entered an ArrangedMarriage with him. However, Linden did not love her back and eventually had her executed for the many crimes she committed during her time as empress. When Elise starts her third life, she tries to get her betrothal to Linden dissolved to avoid her execution at his hands, only to end up developing feelings for his alter-ego, Ron.

----
!!Tropes:
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: The Brooding Boy to Elise's Gentle Girl. Linden is a dutiful prince but is bogged down by his tragic past and is obsessed with getting his revenge. He only begins healing from his pain after growing close to Elise, who always does her best to provide him comfort.
* KingIncognito: He frequently inspects Londo using a magical artifact to change his appearance. He later uses this disguise to meet with Elise (who is unaware of his true identity) without formality and court etiquette to taint their interactions.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Flashbacks reveal he was a cheerful child growing up, only for his disposition to grow cold after his mother and sister were falsely accused of treason, imprisoned, and eventually committed suicide by throwing themselves off the roof of the Ivory Tower--with their bodies landing right in front of Linden, traumatizing him.

* ImprobableAge: Zigzagged. From the perspective of her peers in Britta, Elise is incredibly young for a supposed genius doctor, which is why so many have doubts about her abilities at first. However, she has PastLifeMemories from both her first life as Elise and her second life in the modern-day. Combining both, including how many years she had to spend in medical school for the latter, and her mental age is probably closing in on middle age at the start of the story, an age that is more in line for someone with her skill in medicine.
* LovesMyAlterEgo: Because of how their relationship ended in her first life, Elise is initially reluctant to get close to Linden again, and instead develops feelings for his alter-ego Lord Ron first. Even after she begins to let her guard down around Linden, she doesn't allow herself to fully embrace her love for him again until she learns he's Ron.

* {{Bookworm}}: As a doctor who likes to keep up with the latest medical advancements, Elise spends a lot of her free time studying medical texts whenever she isn't working. It's particularly bad at the beginning of the story when she's studying for the physician's exam--even when she's locked up in the Ivory Tower while waiting for the results of an impending investigation, her only concern is studying.

* FriendlyEnemy: Even though their families are political opponents, that does not stop Elise and Julienne from being best friends--at least, after Elise apologizes to Julienne for all the terrible things she did to her while they were growing up. The rest of House Childe similarly grows fond of Elise, if to a lesser extent.

* CareerVersusMan: A major conflict in the first half of the story is Elise trying to get out of her ArrangedMarriage with Linden so she can devote herself to being a doctor, her true passion. As a royal consort is not allowed to have a second occupation, marrying Linden will force her to give up her career, something she does not want--especially since she no longer loves Linden as she did in her first life. [[spoiler:After Linden and her end up falling in love with each other for real, Linden helps her TakeAThirdOption by asking his father to institute a law allowing the Empress to have a second occupation, allowing Elise to continue her medical work]].

* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Owing to her occupation as a doctor, Elise always tries to save as many lives as she can, even when it's to her detriment. This nearly backfires on her when she saves the life of Duchess Harber; while she manages to save the duchess's life because she used an unproven medical technique to do it (namely, cutting the duchess's neck open and putting a straw in the opening to remove the blockage from her airflow), Elise is nearly mistaken for ''harming'' the duchess instead and confined as a result while an investigation is made into the treatment she used.

* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Her older brother Lenne is the only person who never indulged her when she was a RoyalBrat, and continues to treat her as a nuisance even after he sees her CharacterDevelopment. That being said, he's still cares for her and is deeply proud of all her accomplishments.
* BestFriends: With Mikhail. One of the reasons why her relationship with Linden in her first life began to sour is because he killed Mikhail as part of his revenge purge.

Added DiffLines:

* FamedInStory: Over the course of the story, Elise becomes famous and admired throughout the world for her medical prowess. At least one character explicitly states that they entered the medical profession because she inspired them.
* TheIllegible: Proving that she truly is a doctor at heart, Elise has ''terrible'' handwriting. Most notably, the ''only'' reason she doesn't get a perfect score on the physician's exam is because her answers for the two easiest questions are so illegible that the scorers can't read them, forcing them to mark the questions wrong.

Added DiffLines:

* UniversallyBelovedLeader: In direct contrast to her first life, Elise eventually becomes the most beloved figure in the empire due to her kind and generous personality, and for her many great feats as a doctor. Even the Aristocratic faction, her family's political enemies, have a positive view of her, mainly thanks to several of them owing their lives and the lives of their loved ones to her. [[spoiler:When they're forced to take her captive thanks to finding out their plans to assassinate Linden, they immediately dismiss the idea of killing her--both because they don't want to and because the public backlash wouldn't be worth it]].

[[folder:Elise de Clarence]]
!!Elise de Clarence | Jihyun Song | Aoi Takamoto

The main character of the story. In her first life as Elise de Clarence, she was the tyrannical Empress of the Britta Empire, who the people executed for her sins. After her death, she is reincarnated into the modern day as an orphan named Jihyun Song (Aoi Takamoto in the anime), who seeks to atone for her crimes as Elise by becoming a surgeon and saving as many lives as possible. She succeeds, only for her second life to be tragically cut short by a plane crash -- after which, she begins her ''third'' life, this time as Elise once again. With the combined knowledge of her first two lives, Elise seeks to correct the sins of her past and bring about a happier future for all her loved ones.
----
!!Tropes:
* TheAce: As Jihyun/Aoi, she is a top-class surgeon who is well sought out for her skills. As Elise, she is flat-out the greatest doctor on the planet.
* DudeMagnet: She's incredibly beautiful, and thanks to her CharacterDevelopment during her second life, also very kind and selfless. As a result, she attracts multiple admirers, with Linden, Mikhail, and Graham explicitly stated to be in love with her.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: Make no mistake, Jihyun/Aoi is an incredibly skilled doctor by the standards of the modern day, but only to the point of being considered extremely competent. By the standards of 1850s Britta, however, she's nothing short of a medical genius.
* RedBaron: During the Crimean War, the soldiers Elise cares for at the field hospital start calling her "The Lady with the Lamp", an affectionate nickname paying homage to the lamp she always carries with her while comforting them.
* {{Workaholic}}: After reincarnating again as Elise, she has started to develop and made a habit of overworking herself in the name of righting all the mistakes she had made in her first life. Unfortunately, thanks to her naturally fragile constitution, she tends to overwork herself and fall sick, much to the worry of her family and Linden.
