Why he bothers is not clear, but what we do know is that Baal was the cause of his father's death. * BoobsOfSteel: The bustiest character in the game (not that she has [[ACupAngst much competition]]), and fittingly a brawler.

* BoobsOfSteel: She's very busty and a very powerful physical warrior.

* UglyGuysHotDaughter: [[spoiler:She is heavily implied to be Hoggmeiser's daughter if you talk to her with max affection.]]

* BladeOnAStick: Is almost always seen with her signature Elder Spear. There's nothing truly special about it, and in its various appearances, it's just a generic slightly above mid-level spear, and was likely chosen from all the weapons in Disgaea 2 due to its red color. Later games, however, make reference of her fondness for it by noting it's favored by "a certain demon lord".

* PalateSwap: When flowers from Celestia start blooming in the Netherworld and cause Laharal to turn into a woman, Etna is also affected. They turn all the red in her design blue. Upon actully looking at herself and noticing, she declares "What the hell? I look like Player Two". A bill in the dark assembly allows the player to turn her back into "Etna P2", though the desgin is entirely cosmetic. Later games referance this by having blue be one of her default alternate palates or as seperate unit in RPG.

* EliteMook: All three of them belong into generic monster classes, but have traits that stand out from the generic monsters. Grosso is a golden Gargoyle with a hat and glasses, Grosso is a red Golem with a scar, chains and wrapped-up left arm, and Rainier is the only known grown-up Sea Angel.

* BrokenMessiah: Flonne does several deeds during the course of the story that are considered less than appropriate for an angel (helping Laharl to become the overlord and beating Gordon, for example). She doesn't realize it's treason against Celestia's dogma before it's too late and desperately tries to explain it away, but she doesn't fool anyone, not even herself.

[[LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels The novels]], though not canon to the games, paint a much darker story; Laharl's aversion to busty women was instilled into him by his aunt, a well-endowed demon who [[spoiler:abused him quite severely after his mother's death (for a century's worth, no less), on the account that no one with human blood should take the throne of the Overlord]].

* DarkAndTroubledPast: You wouldn't expect it from a ''Disgaea'' game, but the [[LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels novels]] say otherwise.

* UnwantedHarem: In [[LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels the novels]], both Gordon and Jennifer's daughter and Flonne's little sister are in love with him, and even Etna and Flonne have a crush on him (rather surprising, since whether or not their game counterpart feel this way is VERY debatable). And the list does not end there: the girls and [[{{Squick}} women]] who want to get into his shorts get more numerous as the novel series goes on, to Laharl's major frustration.

* FriendToAllChildren: Etna appears to have an easy time befriending children like Aramis and Hanako, and seems to genuinely care about them. This extends to the [[LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels novels]], even though Aramis does not appear in them, where Etna shows concern for Laharl's cousin Shas.

* CharacterExaggeration: Flonne is the victim of this in [[LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels the novels]], see {{Clingy Jealous Girl}} below. She also goes so far as to call Laharl a pervert, [[CelibateHero even though she of all people should know him better]]. Also, her later game appearances dial-up her otaku-ness.

* ParentalSubstitute: Arguably Lamington. Flonne got parents of her own in [[LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels the novels]], but this is never mentioned in the game. He talks about her with great pride and fate, and the game shows she had permission to speak to him casually even thought she is a mere angel trainee and he is no less than the [[PhysicalGod Seraph]]. Arguably, she's also one to Sicily, being the closest thing to a mother she's ever had [[spoiler:which only strengthens her connection with Laharl's Mom.]]

** And the LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels take it even further.

* PhenotypeStereotype: American? Most likely (in [[LightNovel/DisgaeaNovels the novels]] they do live in [[{{Eagleland}} America]]). Blond hair and blue eyes? Duh.

[[spoiler:Averted in ''VideoGame/Disgaea2CursedMemories'', where almost all of his closest vassals have left him, including the servant Prinnies, during his feud with Etna.]]
** ''VideoGame/DisgaeaD2ABrighterDarkness'' (apparently set in between the first and second games) reveals that almost no one even ''knows'' he's the overlord, and his own father's vassals are conspiring against him for being an InadequateInheritor. He gains their respect, but it requires saving the entire Netherworld.

* OneHundredPercentAdorationRating: Extremely beloved by his vassals, at least the ones who were loyal to him anyway.

* UndignifiedDeath: He ''choked to death'' on a black pretzel. [[spoiler: At least, that's what he wanted people to believe. The truth was that he sealed away [[EldritchAbomination Baal]] but suffered fatal wounds in the process.]]

* NoPronunciationGuide: In Japan, her name is pronounced "Furon", sounding a lot like the English word "Flown". Outside of Japan, her name is pronounced similarly to the dessert "Flan".

* {{Pretty Freeloader|s}}: Flonne is not often referred to as Laharl's vassal (despite Laharl forcibly conscripting her into the role after her failed assassination attempt), she lives at Overlord's castle free of charge and her needs are taken care of by the Prinnies, which she feels bad about, as mentioned in ''Prinny 2''.

* CoolPet: A whole bunch of zombies.

* CoolPet: Etna used to have a puppy Mystic Beast, which are basically blue wolf puppies with pink afros. Formally introduced in ''Disgaea 2'' as an actual creatable monster.
