* {{Expy}}: In the first game, he’s one of Richter Belmont since he wields a whip similar to the Vampire Killer and has access to item crashes.

to:

* {{Expy}}: In both games, Efrain is, at least to some extent, one of Richter Belmont, owing to a few similarly styled sprite animations and affinity with divine powers. Its especially pronounced in the first game, he’s one of Richter Belmont though, since Efrain not only wears a similarly styled outfit to that of Richter, but he also wields a whip similar to the Vampire Killer and has access to item crashes.

* BadHabits: One of the first things you hear her doing in game is taking over a monastery by joining as a nun. She still keeps the image up even though she's anything but holy.
* BlasphemousBoast: Whatever she says when her boss battle begins is pretty much this, if it isn't her giving an EvilLaugh.
--> ''You fight for a lie.''

The main characters of the Lecarde Chronicles games.

[[folder:Efrain Lecarde]]
!!Efrain Lecade
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Jeremy Montoya
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/efrainlecarde_lc2.jpg]]
A knight of the Vatican church who is sent by the Pope to investigate numerous demonic activities in Europe. He is the main character of the series and the playable character of both games. In the first game he wields the Lecarde whip while in the second game he ditches the whip in favor of wielding a variety of swords, including his family sword, the Lecarde sword.
* AnAxeToGrind: He has access to the throwing axe subweapon, which he can upgrade in the first game to a heavy throwing axe.
* BagOfSpilling: In the second game, he’s lost all the skills that the statues gave him from the previous game, requiring him to collect them all over again.
* BarrierWarrior: In the second game, he eventually inherits Katharina Von Viltheim’s ability to summon barriers around himself.
* CoolSword: The Lecarde sword, a family heirloom gifted by Pope Innocent X and used by Efrain in the second game. It’s so cool that Death has to steal it at the beginning of the game due to it being too powerful, and it’s the third-strongest sword in the entire game.
* CrossAttack: He can use boomerang crosses as a subweapon, which in the first game can be upgraded into a silver variant instead of the standard crimson variant. Besides that, he can also use a giant cross as part of his attacks in both games: in the first game as his third-level cross item crash and in the second game as his last holy aura ability.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Downplayed. [[spoiler:He manages to defeat Lucifer himself at the end of the second game’s good route, but Lucifer isn’t at his full power due to Efrain’s interference making the ritual to summon him back incomplete.]]
* EpicFlail: In the first game, once Efrain upgrades his whip into the chain whip, his whip becomes this for the rest of the game.
* {{Expy}}: In the first game, he’s one of Richter Belmont since he wields a whip similar to the Vampire Killer and has access to item crashes.
* FlechetteStorm: In the first game, one of his item crashes with the dagger subweapon allows him to throw numerous daggers at his enemies.
* GlassCannon: The Ring of Fury in the second game turns Efrain into one. While he’s able to cause moderately more damage than before, his defense is also lowered extremely. The ring is permanently equipped onto Efrain in the Ring of Fury mode, except for the fight against Anna Von Viltheim since the fight requires Efrain to equip the Von Viltheim Ring in order to damage her.
* TheHero: He’s the main protagonist of both games, being sent by the pope to fight against whatever demonic forces haunt Europe.
* TheHeroDies:
** [[spoiler:In the first game’s normal ending, he ends up dying two years after the game’s events due to a curse Katarina places upon him.]]
** [[spoiler:In the second game’s bad ending, due to not having all eight of the black orbs, Lefrain ends up being crushed under the castle’s rubble and dies as a result.]]
* HeroicLineage: He’s the start of one, [[spoiler:as he’s implied to be the first of the Lecarde family to wield the Alucard Spear by the end of the second game.]]
* HolyHandGrenade: His Holy Water subweapon functions as this in both games as it creates a puddle of fire after being thrown. In the first game he can upgrade it to Sacred Water.
* HunterOfMonsters: As a member of the church, Efrain’s job is to destroy all sorts of demons and monsters during his investigations.
* ItsAllMyFault: [[spoiler:In the average ending of the second game, Efrain blames himself for not stopping Christine’s sacrifice and thus preventing Lucifer’s resurrection from completing and causing chaos across the world.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: “Efrain’s Theme”, which plays during both games. It’s especially prevalent in the second game, as it’s incorporated into several songs.
* LightEmUp: Efrain has a wide variety of light-based attacks, especially from his holy aura abilities in the second game.
* MagicKnight: Efrain attacks with both a primary weapon (either his whip in the first game or a sword in the second) and with aura power-ups, which are either tied to his subweapons in the first game or standalone in the second.
* PlayingWithFire: In the second game, he can summon a holy version of one as his second holy aura ability.
* ProtagonistTitle: The game series is named after his family name.
* ShockAndAwe: His second-level axe item crash in the first game allows him to summon a bolt of lightning from his hands.
* StormOfBlades: In the second game, he can throw numerous holy lances at his enemies as his third holy aura ability.
* SuddenlyVoiced: In contrast to his voice grunts and text dialogue in the first game, he fully speaks in the second game due to having a voice actor.
* VampireHunter: Downplayed. Even though he kills a vampire in both the first and second games, Efrain doesn’t specifically hunt down Dracula and instead stops other sorts of demons.
* WhipItGood: He wields the Lecarde Whip during the first game, which can be upgraded several times.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: His design in the second game doesn’t look similar at all to his design from the first game.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pope Pius IV]]
!!Pope Pius IV
Efrain’s boss and the head of the Vatican church who sends Efrain out on his quests.
* BigGood: He’s Lecarde’s boss and the one who sends him out on his quests to stop the evil forces of the Devil.
* TheGhost: Even though he’s Lecarde’s boss, he’s never once seen in the games.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alucard]]
!!Alucard
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Robert Belgrade
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alucard_lc2.jpg]]
The son of Dracula who is searching for a relic stolen from him in the second game. He occasionally helps Efrain in his journey and is a playable character in the game’s boss rush mode.
* AdaptationalWimp: Unlike the main Castlevania games, he cannot fully transform himself into a bat and can only use giant bat wings for his multiple jumps and as his equivalent for Efrain’s whirlwind attack.
* {{Alucard}}: This is obviously his name.
* {{Animorphism}}: He can give himself bat wings in order to jump multiple times and to create a sonic blast that harms enemies. He can’t fully transform into a bat unlike in the main series, however.
* BadassBaritone: Since he has his original voice actor from Symphony of the Night, his voice is naturally low, and he’s certainly a badass.
* BadassCape: He uses the same cape that he used from Symphony of the Night.
* BadassLongCoat: He wears the same coat that he wears in Symphony of the Night.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: Even though he has demonic powers due to being Dracula’s half-breed son, he’s firmly on the side of good and helps out Efrain in the second game.
* {{Bishonen}}: He carries over his beautiful-looking design right from Symphony of the Night.
* CoolSword: His family relic, the Alucard sword, which he spends a majority of the second game searching for. It’s stronger than Efrain’s own Lecarde sword, warrants additional dialogue in the Lucifer fight, and is Alucard’s weapon during the boss rush.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being the son of Dracula and having demonic powers, he uses his powers for good.
* {{Dhampyr}}: He’s noted to be the half-breed son of Dracula and thus half-vampire, half-human.
* FragileSpeedster: While he’s faster than Efrain in the boss rush mode and has unlimited air dashes, he also has substantially less HP.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Though technically a Dhampir, he still helps Efrain in his journey by giving him items, which eventually includes giving him his own sword.
* {{Hellfire}}: His first aura ability is named Hellfire, and Alucard uses this type of fire in his first two aura abilities.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: He’s a major protagonist of the proper Castlevania series, but since neither of the Lecarde Chronicles games focuses on the fight against Dracula, he’s more of a supporting character this time around.
* {{Intangibility}}: Alucard can use a mist vanishing ability as his fourth aura ability, allowing him to temporarily not receive any damage from enemy attacks.
* MagicKnight: Just like Efrain in the second game, Alucard is primarily a sword-user who can use a variety of magic spells with his aura abilities.
* PlayingWithFire: He can summon three fireballs to attack his enemies as his first aura ability, and he can summon the “Dark Inferno” variant as his second aura ability.
* TakeUpMySword: [[spoiler:A non-fatal example of this in the second game. After Efrain’s fight with Death, he lends Efrain his Alucard sword since he’s too wounded to continue.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Downplayed. Although he can fully transform into a bat in the main series, here he can only give himself giant bat wings.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lucifer]]
!!Lucifer
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Douglas Rye
The leader of Hell’s demons and the overarching antagonist of both Lecarde Chronicles games. He was the being that gave the Von Viltheim family their desires in exchange for their souls and is the being that Duke Guillecourt attempts to bring onto the world in the second game. Also, he serves as the true final boss of the second game.
* TheAntiGod: As the Devil, he’s naturally the evil counterpart to God. He even refers to himself as a god in his special dialogue should Efrain confront him with Alucard’s sword.
* ArchEnemy: He’s this to Efrain Lecarde since he’s the force behind both the corruption of the Von Viltheim family and the plans of Duke Guillecourt.
* BadassBoast: Before his fight with Efrain, he boasts that he “brings the light of one million suns.”
* CameBackWrong: Should the player collect all three of the Nine Gates books in the second game, the ritual to bring Lucifer onto the Earth will be incomplete, thus making him far less powerful than he would have been otherwise.
* DealWithTheDevil: He made one with the Von Viltheim family, where he granted them everything they desired in exchange for their souls.
* DoomedByCanon: Thanks to the series being set within the Castlevania timeline and since the story occurs in 1781, Lucifer can't succeed in wiping out humanity since otherwise the games set after this period wouldn't happen. This is why no matter what ending the player gets in the second game, Lucifer is vanquished before he can succeed.
* EvilLaugh: He gives one after being successfully resurrected in the bad and average routes of the second game, and also frequently laughs during the battle against him.
* FallenAngel: His general motif, as he has giant black wings and calls upon other fallen angels in his battle against Efrain. He also primarily uses the element of light in his attacks.
* FinalBoss: Only in the good ending of the second game, as he’s weak enough for Efrain to beat by himself thanks to the ritual being incomplete.
* FlunkyBoss: He summons fallen angels to help destroy Efrain during the fight against him.
* GreaterScopeVillain: He’s this for the entire series due to him being the one that granted the Von Viltheim family their wishes in exchange for their souls in the first game and being the one who Duke Guillecourt attempts to resurrect in the second game. Efrain only fights him at the end of the second game’s good route.
* LightEmUp: He uses the power of light to try and kill Efrain during their fight.
* LightIsNotGood: Even though his powers are light-based, he’s also the head of the demons and thus the greatest evil to ever plague humankind.
* PhysicalGod: In anything other than the good ending in the second game, he becomes one after being properly resurrected into the world, as he’s so powerful that it takes numerous knights of the Church and several years to stop him.
* {{Satan}}: Obviously, since he’s the devil, with Satan being another of his names.
* WalkingSpoiler: It’s almost impossible to speak of his role in the second game without revealing that Duke Guillecourt’s main plan was to resurrect Lucifer onto the world, and that Lucifer is the true final boss of the game.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Death]]
!!Death
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Jeffrey Montoya
A powerful demon who in the main series serves under Dracula as his right-hand man. He continually confronts Efrain during his investigations in both of the Lecarde Chronicles games, usually serving each game’s respective Big Bads in their plots.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: In the Castlevania series, Death only has loyalty to whoever wields the Ebony Stone, which means he serves Dracula over anyone else. Here, he seems perfectly willing to aid both the Von Viltheim family and Duke Guillecourt in their plans despite them not wielding the Ebony Stone, although this might be because Dracula isn’t around.
* AffablyEvil: He’s rather polite towards Efrain in the second game, as he admires Efrain’s strength as a warrior and doesn’t even fight against him in their first encounter. That doesn’t stop him from taking Efrain’s sword and trying to kill him later on once he’s grown more powerful, however.
* BadassLongRobe: Death wears one in both of the games that he’s in, a purple one in the first game and a light brown one in the second.
* BloodKnight: Efrain not being strong enough is possibly why Death spares him at the beginning of the second game, as he warns Efrain of the dangers awaiting him and only fights Efrain when he’s grown powerful enough to be a WorthyOpponent.
* CoDragons: With Friedrich Von Viltheim in the first game, as they’re the two last opponents fought by Efrain before Katharina.
* EvilLaugh: He has a high-pitched laugh in the first game and a deeper, more sinister laugh in the second game.
* FinalBoss: [[spoiler:Due to the easy mode of the first game ending at the first of the three final levels, he becomes this for the first game’s easy mode.]]
* FlunkyBoss:
** In the first game, he summons zombie and undead horses to attack Efrain in his first fight and later upgrades to Lord Zombies during his rematch.
** He’s also one in the second game, where he summons necromancers (and later evil Slogras when his HP is mostly depleted) to attack Efrain.
* TheGrimReaper: Naturally, since he’s the embodiment of death.
* TheHeavy: He’s the most recurring threat that Efrain faces during the first game.
* {{Leitmotif}}: “Room of Close Associates” from Super Castlevania IV, which plays during the second fight against him in the first game and the battle against him in the second game.
* PaperThinDisguise: He wears a mask over his face in the Lecarde Chronicles, but it doesn’t really hide the fact that he’s Death in disguise due to him still looking like Death otherwise and because he still uses his signature scythes.
* PowerFloats: Just like in the regular series, he’s one of the most powerful enemies, and he always can be found floating in the air.
* RecurringBoss: In the first game, he’s fought in both Ungetstadt in his masked appearance and in the third-to-last stage of the game in his unmasked appearance.
* SinisterScythe: Given that he’s the Grim Reaper, it’s natural that he wields a giant one in battle, which he can throw at Efrain in the second game. He also has his signature miniature scythes that he summons as his SpamAttack in the first game.
* SpamAttack: He uses his signature attack, namely his numerous conjured sickles, in the first game. Strangely, they’re completely absent in the second game.
* SuddenlyVoiced: He only makes noises in the first game but speaks properly in the second game due to getting a voice actor.
* WeWillMeetAgain: Similarly to his appearance in Symphony of the Night, he says that he’ll meet Efrain again later before stealing his sword.
* WorthyOpponent: Said verbatim to Lecarde before the battle against him in the second game, as Death admires how powerful he’s become.
[[/folder]]

!The Von Viltheim Family
[[folder:In General]]
An Austrian family who was once a holy family. After Katrina made a deal with the devil, the family mysteriously vanished. They serve as the antagonists of the first game.
* AristocratsAreEvil: The Von Viltheim family presided over Austria as noblemen, but were seduced by the devil and turned into demons. In the second game, their spirits have been purified and they actually help Efrain with his quest.
* DealWithTheDevil: They formed a deal with Lucifer to get whatever they desired in exchange for their souls.
* DeathEqualsRedemption: After being vanquished by Efrain Lecarde in the first game, most of them save for Friedrich help out Efrain with their powers in the second game.
* EvilLaugh: The entire family save for Leopold and Gerof have one.
* HeelFaceTurn: After their defeat in the Lecarde Chronicles, the spirits of the family help out Efrain in the sequel by granting him aura powers.
* TheVonTropeFamily: They’re the Von Viltheim family, naturally.
* WasOnceAMan: All the members of the Von Viltheim family were once human, but were converted into demons by the devil after making a deal with him. Their souls are restored once Efrain defeats them after the first game.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Katharina]]
!!Katharina Von Viltheim
The duchess of the Von Viltheim family who was once known as the most clever and beautiful woman in Austria. She was seduced by the Devil’s power and led her family towards making deals with him. She serves as the primary antagonist of the first game and serves as the last of the Viltheim family’s spirits to lend Lecarde her power in the sequel.
* {{Animorphism}}: [[spoiler:She can transform herself into a giant wasp.]]
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: [[spoiler:Katharina transforms into the largest wasp in the game in the second phase of her fight.]]
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:During the worst ending of the first game, Katharina succeeds in cursing her district and making it uninhabitable.]]
* BarrierWarrior: In the first phase of her fight, she frequently forms a magical barrier around herself. She grants Efrain this magical barrier when he calls upon her power in the second game.
* BigBad: She’s the main antagonist of the first game.
* ExBigBad: She goes from being the Big Bad of the first game to being the last of the Von Viltheim family to lend their power to Efrain in the second game.
* FinalBoss: She’s the final boss of the first game on the normal and hard routes.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:All the giant wasps and hives seen throughout the first game foreshadow Katharina’s true form as a giant wasp.]]
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:In the second phase of her fight, she transforms into a giant wasp to kill Efrain.]]
* SequentialBoss: The first fight against her is in her human form, [[spoiler:then after destroying two giant wasp’s nests, Efrain faces her true giant wasp form.]]
* WeaponizedOffspring: [[spoiler:She can give birth to regular wasps during her second phase to attack Efrain.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Friedrich]]
!!Friedrich Von Viltheim
A member of the Von Viltheim family who, after making a deal with the devil, became a famous scientist. He was eventually defaced by his experiments and disappeared behind a mirror afterwards. He’s the second-to-last boss faced in the first game and is the only member of the family not to reappear in the second game.
* TheCameo: Even though he’s the only Von Viltheim family member whose power isn’t called upon by Efrain, Death uses his deceased body to attack Efrain.
* CoDragons: With Death in the first game, as they’re the two last opponents fought by Efrain before Katharina.
* {{Expy}}: Since he can enter in and out of mirrors and has his face covered, he’s one of Paranoia from Dawn of Sorrow.
* FlunkyBoss: He calls upon several mirror clones of Efrain to help out during his boss fight, although these clones disappear once all the mirrors are broken.
* MadScientist: He created several abominable creatures during his experiments, three of which are fought in the conservatory. He also defaced himself in his experiments and became a mirror demon in the process.
* NighInvulnerability: While there are still mirrors in his area, Friedrich can just enter back into the mirror realm to restore all of his health faster than Efrain can kill him.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: There's no explanation given as to why he's the only member of the family whose spirit doesn't help Efrain during the second game, and any reference to him is completely absent save for Death using his corpse during a fight.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Leopold]]
!!Leopold Von Viltheim
A member of the Von Viltheim family who, after making a deal with the devil, constructed the largest library in Europe. He also lost his mind to the field of necromancy because of the deal. He is fought in the basement of the castle during the first game, and he’s the second of the family to lend his power to Lecarde during the second game.
* BodyOfBodies: He surrounds himself in a sphere of corpses during the second phase of his fight.
* {{Expy}}: His robes, sitting position during his second phase and his field of necromancy make him one of Shaft. Likewise, his second form consists of a giant ball of skeletons and flesh, making him also one of Legion.
* {{Necromancer}}: He became one after losing his mind to books on necromancy, and his powers when fighting against Efrain revolve around using the deceased.
* SequentialBoss: After Efrain defeats his first human-shaped form, Leopold summons a gigantic sphere of corpses to shield his body in his second phase.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Liese]]
!!Liese Von Viltheim
A member of the Von Viltheim family who, after making a deal with the devil, attained eternal beauty. She ended up dying at an early age because of her deal. She’s fought in the castle in the inner yard in the first game, and she becomes the fourth of the family to lend Lecarde her power in the second game.
* MsFanservice: She’s the most scantily-clad enemy fought in both games due to her body being completely nude save for vines of roses covering her private parts. It’s fitting considering she wished for eternal beauty.
* {{Stripperific}}: Her ghost wears nothing but a long vine of roses that covers her private areas.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Wilhelm]]
!!Wilhelm Von Viltheim
A member of the Von Viltheim family who, after making a deal with the devil, became a great musician. He also eventually became a vampire due to the Devil’s influence. He’s fought in the maze of curtains in the first game, and in the second game, he’s the third of the Von Viltheim family to lend his power to Lecarde.
* OneWingedAngel: He transforms into a gigantic vampire bat in the second part of his fight against Efrain.
* SequentialBoss: After fighting against Efrain in his human form, he transforms into a gigantic vampire bat for his second phase.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Gerof]]
!!Gerof Von Viltheim
A member of the Von Viltheim family who, after making a deal with the devil, became a great hunter. He’s encountered outside of the Von Viltheim castle in the hunting grounds during the first game, and he is the first spirit of the family who lends Lecarde his power in the sequel.
* FlunkyBoss: On hard mode, he fights Efrain with zombie hounds helping him.
* SwordBeam: He can fire energy projectiles from his sword.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Anna]]
!!Anna Von Viltheim
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Rachael Montoya
A member of the Von Viltheim family from around a century before the events of the second Lecarde Chronicles game who fell in love with a member of the Lecarde family. After the engagement was broken, Anna went to France to commit suicide and was buried in her wedding dress. Her restless spirit is eventually fought by Lecarde in the Castle of Eternal Night, where she guards one of the Nine Gates books. In order to defeat her, Lecarde must collect and use all the Von Viltheim equipment.
* DrivenToSuicide: After her lover broke off their marriage engagement, she ended up committing suicide in France.
* FlunkyBoss: During the fight against her, several ghostly bridesmaids attack Efrain with affliction-causing flowers.
* NighInvulnerability: Unless Efrain equips all the Von Viltheim gear, Anna cannot be damaged by anything that Efrain uses against her.
* WalkingSpoiler: Any discussion of her appearing in the game spoils her role of guarding one of the Nine Gates books required for getting the best ending and that she can only be defeated with the full Von Viltheim equipment set.
[[/folder]]

!Duchy of Guillecourt
All the living residents of the Duchy of Guillecourt.

[[folder:Henri de Guillecourt]]
!!Duke Henri de Guillecourt
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Sam Cope
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/henri_de_guillecourt_lc2.jpg]]
The Duke of the Duchy of Guillecourt and the main antagonist of the second game. He kidnaps Christine for unknown purposes that Lecarde hopes to uncover during his adventure.
* AchillesHeel: [[spoiler:He’s normally almost completely invulnerable in his demon form, but whenever he transforms into a cloud of shadow, Efrain can cause major damage to him. And since he has to transform into one in order to move, he does this quite often.]]
* AristocratsAreEvil: He’s the Duke and the main villain of the second game, [[spoiler:planning to bring Lucifer onto the world.]]
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:If Efrain doesn’t have all three of the Nine Gates books by the time he encounters the ritual, Guillecourt succeeds in bringing Lucifer onto the world and causing untold amounts of chaos and bloodshed in the process.]]
* BigBad: He’s the main antagonist of the second game, as it’s his actions that drive Lecarde’s quest and his plan that [[spoiler:brings Lucifer into the world.]]
* CastingAShadow: [[spoiler:He has the power to turn himself into a dark cloud in order to move around the room, although this removes his near-complete invulnerability and allows Efrain to damage him normally.]]
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: To Katharina from the first game. While Katharina was only a threat to her domain in Austria, Guillecourt’s plan to [[spoiler:resurrect Lucifer onto the Earth causes chaos around the entire world if successful. Also, while Katharina is fought in both her human and wasp forms and serves as the final boss of the game, Guillecourt is only fought in his demon form and doesn’t serve as the true final boss, with that role going to Lucifer.]]
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:He only serves as this in the good ending of the second game since the ritual is disrupted by Lecarde, and thus Lecarde can feasibly beat Lucifer by himself.]]
* EvilLaugh: He gives a rather deep laugh occasionally during his fight.
