* A UsefulNotes/ConsoleWars example: despite coming from two different platforms and released a year apart, some players began comparing ''UX'' against the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Third Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-hen]]'' (and its subsequent {{Sequel}} for the latter) regarding which was the better handheld ''Super Robot Wars'' title. While both had a [[Anime/Gundam00AWakeningOfTheTrailblazer few]] [[Anime/DancougarNova things]] [[Anime/MacrossFrontier in]] [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny common]], the fact the games were remotely ''comparable'' in the fandom's eyes didn't sit well with some (specifically, which one had the better battle animations and {{Leitmotif}}s).

** The decision to have ''Wataru'' be very prominent in this installment usually splits the camp into two: one welcomes or at least understands that Bandai Namco wanted to appease Chinese audiences who were big fans of the series and consider this a step in the right direction the publisher wanted by expanding their borders as part of the International Era, while the other is livid that the show isn't to their tastes since ''Wataru'' was pretty obscure outside of Japan and China[[note]]While it did appear in the West, it was {{Bowdlerise}}d as UsefulNotes/TurboGrafx16 game ''VideoGame/KeithCourageInAlphaZones'', which was similarly obscure[[/note]].

Much of the complaints were also rooted in hardware issues, since a UsefulNotes/PlayStationPortable UMD can only hold so much data. ** The prior ''Gundam 00'' problem in ''Jigoku-hen'' (not finishing the plot of the movie in that game, thus resulting in the units not having all their weapons from the movie) seemed to be relieved in ''Tengoku-hen'' except some players were still miffed about certain elements (for one, [[Anime/Gundam00AWakeningOfTheTrailblazer Graham Aker]] ''still'' didn't have the [[SummonMagic Solbraves Team Attack]]). A Broken Base requires arguments from two different sides to exist. It must not be used for every little thing some fans complain about.

** The arrangements for some of the {{Leitmotif}}s in ''Hakai-hen'' had fans either cheering (such as "[[Anime/ShinMazinger Kanjite Knight]]" and "[[Manga/GetterRobo HEATS]]"), or outright wanting to murder the composer in cold blood, with "[[Anime/DancougarNova Tori no Uta]]" being the largest offender. It wouldn't be that big of an issue had not the same track been used in ''L'', giving fans something to compare.
*** Also, fans were upset certain songs were NOT in ''Hakai-hen'', such as "Yuusou" (the theme of the "Stoner Sunshine" event from ''[[Manga/GetterRobo Getter Robo Armageddon]]'') as well as "New Frontier" and "Angel Voice" from ''[[Anime/{{Macross 7}} Macross Dynamite 7]]''.
*** Not just music: let fans watch and compare the animations of the ''Anime/DancougarNova'' in ''L'' and the ''Second Z''. People ''will'' argue which one is better (recall ''L'' is on the UsefulNotes/NintendoDS while the ''Second Z'' is on the [=PlayStation Portable=]. *** The use of synth violins ("[[Anime/MacrossFrontier Triangular]]" and "[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Hakanaku mo Towa no Kanashi]]" are the biggest examples); in all fairness, this is a near universally hated thing when it comes to licensed music in ''Super Robot Wars''.

** The divide of whether ''Tengoku-hen'' is worthy of a GrandFinale installment like ''Alpha 3'' or not.
*** Many characters [[BackFromTheDead killed in previous installments returned]] for ''Tengoku-hen'', most without much explanation and/or HandWaving. Naturally, the latter is seen as lazy, shoddy writing, earning the writers flak for skimping out on {{Crossover}} material.
*** Background information regarding [[spoiler:[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsZ Asakim Dowin]]]] had been rewritten in ''Tengoku-hen'', so much that it has little to no relation to the description seen in the character's profile back in the ''first game'', particularly [[spoiler:the "sins" he mentions throughout the saga]]. The fact this character's final line of dialogue is [[spoiler:a parallel to the opening lyrics of Masaki's "Neppu! Shippu! Cybuster!" {{Leitmotif}}]] leading to an abundance of WildMassGuessing and MindScrew for many players has led them to point towards WriterCopOut for neglecting built-up origins in favor of {{Retcon}}s.

* Pick a HumongousMecha series...''any'' HumongousMecha series, regardless of its originating medium or where it was created (East or West): chances are if it isn't featured in ''Super Robot Wars'', fans of that series will complain about its exclusion and blame another series for "[[{{Filler}} stealing its spot]]" on the roster, usually one they don't like.

** Then again, [[http://i.imgur.com/dCNc6wE.png all may not be as the first trailer made it seem...]]

* Giving ''Macross Frontier'' another entry: at that point in time, it had appeared in ''eight consecutive installments'' since its debut in ''L''. Whereas ''Dancougar Nova'' and ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny'' took a break with ''BX'', some fans got tired of seeing ''Frontier'' in another title. Fortunately, the hate died down a little as ''Frontier'' starts in its PostScriptSeason in order to connect with ''VideoGame/{{Macross 30}}'', which takes place after ''Frontier'', until players discovered the ''BX'' plot stated the events of ''30'' were concluded six months before the start of the game, meaning both ''Macross'' entries were nothing but {{Filler}}s.

* Despite Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment personally stepping in to translate ''The Moon Dwellers'' into English for the Southeast Asia region, only the Sony UsefulNotes/PlayStation4 version was localized, leaving Sony UsefulNotes/PlayStation3 owners in the dust, giving the latter something to complain about; in Bandai Namco's defense, other games (which weren't necessarily Bandai Namco-published releases) with dual-console releases were slowly phasing out the [=PlayStation 3=] versions in the region.

* Though the majority of opinions remained positive, certain Japanese players weren't entirely thrilled over how ''UX'' handled the MassivelyMultiplayerCrossover elements (or considered the OriginalGeneration plot over-hyped by previews).

saga. Much of the complaints were also rooted in hardware issues, since a UsefulNotes/PlayStationPortable UMD can only hold so much data. The fact the ''Second Z'' was split into two parts resulted in [[WhatCouldHaveBeen certain things being wound up on the cutting room floor]].

** The removal of certain series like ''Anime/EurekaSeven'', ''Anime/OvermanKingGainer'', ''Anime/AfterWarGundamX'' and ''Anime/TurnAGundam'' in favor of new series; like ''Hakai-hen'', it is but part ONE of the ''Third Z'', making these complaints feel redundant.
** Upon the reveal of screenshots, certain players were upset Banpresto wasn't taking full advantage of the [=PlayStation 3=] and UsefulNotes/PlaystationVita by going the 3D route for maps, instead opting back for the heads-down display as the ''Second Z'' did. Grumblings of LazyArtist were abound since both systems have the hardware and power to do it, especially when the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Second Super Robot Wars Original Generation]]'' could.
** The second promotional trailer revealed the plot of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack'' is happening, which irked some players, particularly since [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Quattro Bagina]] said he wouldn't let it happen back in the first ''Z'' title. Not only did this make [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Char Aznable]] a {{Hypocrite}} and liar, {{Colony Drop}}ping Axis had been done too many times in previous installments, especially when [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn another character who looks like Char (Full Frontal)]] could be the one to do it in place of the man himself, a theory most players felt positive about when the game was announced. [[spoiler:Turns into {{Superdickery}} when Full Frontal ''is'' the one performing the drop, whereas Char is working behind the scenes to prevent it, going so far as to pull a XanatosGambit in case the ColonyDrop occurs]].

** The plot for ''Anime/Gundam00AWakeningOfTheTrailblazer'' was not concluded in ''Jigoku-hen'', pulling another ''Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann'' delay via ''Hakai-hen''. This was especially bad when comparing with its debut in ''UX'', where their machines had a healthy amount of weapons available before the final battle against the [[Anime/Gundam00AWakeningOfTheTrailblazer ELS]] (for that matter, ask anyone who's played ''UX'' about the [[Anime/Gundam00AWakeningOfTheTrailblazer Raphael Gundam and the Brave]]).
** In addition, ''Jigoku-hen'' [[WhatCouldHaveBeen cut a lot of content]] made from the ''Second Z'' duology, such as visual effects[[note]]"Mirror Image", barriers, etc.[[/note]] and {{Combination Attack}}s, when they're perfectly adaptable for this game and hardware (as seen for certain units from returning series like ''Anime/CodeGeass''). Cue fan outcry and accusations of Banpresto being too concerned about their financial budget, leading to this occurring.

** With its reveal, fan rage intensified as ''Anime/SpaceWarriorBaldios'', ''Anime/GodSigma'', ''King Gainer'', ''Anime/{{Xabungle}}'', ''Anime/{{Gravion}}'', ''Anime/{{Dancougar}}'', and ''Anime/EurekaSeven'' were no longer part of the roster, particularly the latter, as its plot had the most impact in the first two ''Z'' installments. [[OlderThanTheyThink While previous games in the franchise have shafted older series for new debuts]] (such as ''Anime/BrainPowerd'' and ''Manga/MobileSuitCrossboneGundam'' for ''Alpha 3''), some fans claimed such series removal in this {{Continuity}} was a detriment to the overall narrative.
*** The absence of ''Anime/EurekaSeven'' might be explained by the [[FanonDiscontinuity poor reception]] of its [[Anime/EurekaSevenAO sequel]], which would otherwise have been a natural fit. Still, it didn't account for their complete absence when the setting of ''Anime/EurekaSeven'' was an integral part of the ''Z'' saga.
** Since ''Tengoku-hen'' was the final ''Z'' installment, the plot of ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'' potentially ending off as a {{Cliffhanger}} via ''3.0: You Can (Not) Redo'' or using something entirely new (a la ''Gurren Lagann'' in ''Saisei-hen'') didn't sit well with some people, especially when "4.0" is still in production. Prior to release, WordOfGod confirmed ''Tengoku-hen'' would not include the plot from ''3.0'', but rather its AfterTheEnd setting and {{Mecha}}, giving players something to complain about.

** The lack of {{Combination Attack}}s, as many players were upset over the absence of obvious (or potential) choices, such as "Triple Inazuma Kick" between the ''Anime/{{Gunbuster}}'' and ''Anime/{{Diebuster}}'' casts being the primary one, "Final Dynamic Special" from the [[Anime/ShinMazinger God Scrander-equipped Mazinger Z]] and [[Manga/GetterRobo Shin Getter]], and anything from the Universal Century characters, particularly ''Char's Counterattack'' and ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn''.

** Three words - SequelDifficultySpike: many players enjoyed ''Tengoku-hen'' with increased difficulty over previous titles, but some complained that, at some point, the game became downright ''unforgiving''.
*** {{Irony}} ensues when opinions flew off in [[SequelDifficultyDrop the opposite direction]] about two-thirds of the way into ''Tengoku-hen'' (around the point when [[spoiler:[[Anime/{{Diebuster}} Nono acquires her Buster Machine #7 transformation]]]]), with allied characters becoming too powerful, the game not creating a challenge anymore. This was compounded with a [[spoiler:mandatory, ''permanent'' status effect]] dropped onto players' laps with absolutely no strings attached for the rest of the game. The issue was more of the difficulty curve being too sharp in the beginning and middle of a play-through, yet the curve became non-existent by the end.

* In spite of the franchise being famous for this, the FixFic elements can be quite contested. Several fans believe that the changes (especially extreme changes related to alternate character developments or plot-important deaths being averted) heavily go against the narrative and messages of the original shows, while other fans enjoy the changes while acknowledging they're still different canonities.

** The ''X-Ω'' debuts, particularly the One-Time event-only series: perfectly fine on expanding the playable roster for the game or does it cheapen their inclusion into the franchise for an installment that isn't the traditional TurnBasedStrategy?
* "[[PropRecycling Asset/Sprite recycling]]": justified due to the limited budget for every game (which includes acquiring potentially expensive licenses for any series Banpresto intends to use for an installment) or a case of LazyArtist? * "Universal Century" ''Gundam'' in general: there are many fans who feel that a ''Super Robot Wars'' is not complete without Amuro Ray and the other UC Gundam protagonists, and many others who feel that the developers have long run out of tricks to keep ''Zeta Gundam'', ''Gundam ZZ'' and ''Char's Counterattack'' interesting. This is exacerbated by the fact that, unlike the ''Mazinger'' and ''Getter Robo'' series, there have been almost no new ''Gundam'' works involving Amuro since the release of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars1'' that could be adapted to spice things up.

* While it is widely agreed upon that the ''VXT'' trilogy is a great place for newcomers (with fans recommending they choose the one with the most series they like/are interested in), the actual debate comes to ''which one'' is considered the best, as the similarities of all three games result in the positives highlighting the flaws of the others. (A common example is ''X'' detractors complaining about the SpotlightStealingSquad nature of ''Wataru'', only for ''V'' detractors to point out ''Yamato'' is actually a bigger offender with this.)
* The main trend started by ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ'', where parallel worlds are used for the stories. Is this a lazy cop-out for writers not trying to make every series involved in a single world, or is it a natural result due to how different several of the settings can be?

(A common example is ''X'' detractors complaining about the SpotlightStealingSquad SpotlightStealingCrossover nature of ''Wataru'', only for ''V'' detractors to point out ''Yamato'' is actually a bigger offender with this.)
* The main trend started by ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ'', where parallel worlds are used for the stories. Is this a lazy cop-out for writers not trying to make bypass CanonWelding every series involved in into a single world, or is it a natural result due to how different several of the useful story trope that allows for series with more varied settings can be?to to be included together?

* The ''Manga/GetterRoboDevolution'' characters appearing as DownloadableContent. While many were happy to see a new Getter Robo entry show up since ''New Getter Robo'' showed up in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsNEO'', there are fans who hate the series' strange aesthetics or the series itself and believe that ''Getter Robo Arc'' should have shown up instead, despite its manga being LeftHanging and the anime iteration not even launching until 2021, when ''30'' launched.

* The SpotlightStealingCrossover of ''Anime/CrossAnge'' into the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsV'' narrative was divided due to how controversial the show is. It mostly boils down to whether players liked ''Cross Ange'' or not. Those who liked it find it a welcome addition like the new units and their attacks, the way it integrates itself into the ''V'' setting and ''Cross Ange'' BigBad Embryo's performance as one of the main antagonists of this {{Crossover}}, as well as toning down some of the protagonist's violent tendencies, making it akin to ''Anime/GundamSEEDDestiny'' in the same vein of 'controversial series saved by the magic of SRW'. Capping the latter point is Embryo kidnapping every heroine to MindRape and turn them into his harem, which screams of GratuitousRape and can come across as disrespectful to the beloved heroines. It comes to no surprise that naysayers prefer that ''Cross Ange'' was never added to this installment's roster; combined with ''V'' being [[ItsEasySoItSucks easier]] and [[ItsTheSameSoItSucks too similar]] to the preceding ''Third Z'' duology, some fans outright [[FanonDiscontinuity ignore its existence in this game]].

[[folder:Super Robot Wars Z]]

* ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Second Super Robot Wars Z: Hakai-hen]]''
** While some found the cast list to be the best thing ever, others hate it for removing the "[[TacticalRockPaperScissors TRI-Battle System]]" from ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ'', having only one protagonist, a lack of {{Secret Character}}s and the inability to save certain characters whom players wanted to survive throughout the course of the ''Z'' saga.
*** Much of the complaints were also rooted in hardware issues, since a UsefulNotes/PlayStationPortable UMD can only hold so much data. The fact the ''Second Z'' was split into two parts resulted in [[WhatCouldHaveBeen certain things being wound up on the cutting room floor]].
Same thing can be applied to the ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'' animations.
* ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Second Super Robot Wars Z: Saisei-hen]]''
** People were rejoicing that ''[[Anime/{{Gigantor}} Tetsujin #28]]'', essentially the [[UrExample great grandfather of]] HumongousMecha, finally showed up in ''Super Robot Wars'', only it's the 1980 remake and not the original, which had some people happy ''Tetsujin #28'' was showing up at all, some wishing it was the original, and some happy it's that version.
** The plot of [[spoiler:''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'']] doesn't end in this game, and [[spoiler:the [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann]]]] isn't playable, despite the [[spoiler:[[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Cathedral Lazengann]]]] appearing: while it's an obvious setup for a SequelHook, this still annoyed certain players because it meant they had to wait until further down the line in the ''Z'' saga.
*** Technically it ''had'' ended[[note]]Banpresto made an original [[spoiler:"Anti-Gurren Lagann" piloted by the Anti-Spiral]][[/note]], so they could still continue it into ''Jigoku-hen''[[note]]That said, [[spoiler:the Anti-Spiral simply up and leaves]], stating ZEXIS will live a little longer[[/note]].
** The fact that [[spoiler:[[Anime/CodeGeass Euphemia li Britannia]] turned out NotQuiteDead]] in the "Trust Zero" Route, but [[spoiler:[[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Lockon "Neil Dylandy" Stratos]] stayed KilledOffForReal]] annoyed some players. To be fair, [[spoiler:Euphemia being alive]] had less negative impact to the overall plot (for ''Saisei-hen'' and ''Anime/CodeGeass'') than having [[spoiler:Kamina and Neil]] come back would.
* ''Third Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-hen''
** When it was released, players weren't pleased to discover some attack animations had taken a step back against [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLVdkgwbHdc previous]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aopzdml43n8 titles]], especially when new animations were [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsDKOj6n-Os given better treatment]]. While this base is always broke regarding Banpresto's bias towards different titles (particularly series debuts), ''Jigoku-hen'' seemed to be the worst yet.
* ''Third Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku-hen''
** The prior ''Gundam 00'' problem in ''Jigoku-hen'' seemed to be relieved in ''Tengoku-hen'' except some players were still miffed about certain elements (for one, [[Anime/Gundam00AWakeningOfTheTrailblazer Graham Aker]] ''still'' didn't have the [[SummonMagic Solbraves Team Attack]]). Furthermore, while some players considered the treatment for the movie in ''UX'' was at least comparable to, if not, better than ''Tengoku-hen''[[note]]The lack of DVE (or worse, the original subtitles) for [[Anime/Gundam00AWakeningOfTheTrailblazer Setsuna F. Seiei]] during the ''Gundam 00'' finale of ''Tengoku-hen''[[/note]], the result was nothing but this trope. All this is before certain players continuing to compare the animations between ''UX'' and ''Tengoku-hen'' to further fuel UsefulNotes/ConsoleWars.
** Multiple characters being DemotedToExtra or [[AssistCharacter as part of another character's attacks]] wasn't received well, particularly for characters who were already shafted out of playable roles in ''Jigoku-hen''. Some fans, however, did appreciate some of the new "summon" attacks the game presented.

Detractors find the series does not mesh well with others, [[PlotHole creates gaping plot inconsistencies]], and Embryo being a lousy villain who draws attention away from more fascinating examples.
* The balance between RealRobot and SuperRobot is quite contested, as there are much more Real Robot representitaves over Super Robot (a total of six). Some argue that the lack of balance could have easily been avoided by removing several of the ''Gundam'' representatives (as many of them are post-plot and could easily be removed) for something else. Others argue that the story balances things out enough by giving all the Super Robot shows enough of a focus, with none of them really being left out.

Those who liked it find it a welcome addition like the new units and their attacks, the way it integrates itself into the ''V'' setting and ''Cross Ange'' BigBad Embryo's performance as one of the main antagonists of MassivelyMultiplayerCrossover; if they like these characters, chances are the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration'' and ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsGaiden Masou Kishin]]'' sub-series will offer them something to look forward to when a licensed-''Super Robot Wars'' installment isn't on the horizon. Further helping this {{Crossover}}, as well as toning down is some of these characters (such as [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Sanger Zonvolt]]) turned into {{Breakout Character}}s, such that even naysayers acknowledge as great.
** The second camp consider
the protagonist's violent tendencies, making it akin to ''Anime/GundamSEEDDestiny'' in the same vein primary focus of 'controversial a {{Crossover}} should be centered on characters from licensed series saved by the magic of SRW'. Detractors find the series does not mesh well interacting with others, [[PlotHole creates gaping plot inconsistencies]], and Embryo being a lousy villain who draws attention away one another, aside from more fascinating examples. Capping the OriginalGeneration, thus they place the latter point is Embryo kidnapping every heroine to MindRape and turn at a low priority. More often than not, they won't gravitate towards them into his harem, which screams of GratuitousRape and can come across as disrespectful because these characters are deemed pointless to the beloved heroines. It comes to no surprise that naysayers prefer that ''Cross Ange'' was never added to this installment's roster; combined with ''V'' being [[ItsEasySoItSucks easier]] and [[ItsTheSameSoItSucks too similar]] cross-series interactions or an unnecessary addition to the preceding ''Third Z'' duology, some fans outright [[FanonDiscontinuity ignore its existence narrative.
** [[TakeAThirdOption A third, but minor camp]] do not mind having an OriginalGeneration-only premise existing alongside licensed games

their own {{Continuity}}, especially when ''Original Generation'' was the first title to be officially translated - a GatewaySeries for the overall franchise.
* The balance between RealRobot ''[[Characters/MasouKishin Masou Kishin]]'' cast members, aside from mainstays [[Characters/MasouKishin Masaki Andoh, Lune Zoldark and SuperRobot is quite contested, as Shu Shirakawa]]: the majority of players were very glad with them being in the ''Second Original Generation''. However, there are much more Real Robot representitaves over is a camp that [[NeverLiveItDown won't let it down regarding]] their previous [[CrutchCharacter lackluster performance]] in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Super Robot (a total of six). Some argue that Wars Alpha Gaiden]]'' (as ''Alpha'' is probably the lack of balance could have easily been avoided by removing several of the ''Gundam'' representatives (as many of most known licensed-''Super Robot Wars'' to them) and consider them are post-plot and could easily be removed) useless or a waste of space.
* Despite Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment personally stepping in to translate ''The Moon Dwellers'' into English
for the Southeast Asia region, only the Sony UsefulNotes/PlayStation4 version was localized, leaving Sony UsefulNotes/PlayStation3 owners in the dust, giving the latter something else. Others argue to complain about; in Bandai Namco's defense, other games (which weren't necessarily Bandai Namco-published releases) with dual-console releases were slowly phasing out the [=PlayStation 3=] versions in the region.
** Upon release of the English localization, the translation was met with mixed reception: although some fans were pleased at having an official English translation at all, others were pissed its quality was comparatively sub-par and unfit for a release, leaning towards BlindIdiotTranslation levels; notable examples include mistranslated character names and terms, certain names spelled in ''three different ways'', poor grammar use and lack of proper sentence formatting. On the other hand, some deemed the translation "passable", without ruining the overall story-telling. Ultimately, it's universally agreed ''The Moon Dwellers'' translation served as a [[NecessaryFail stepping stone for a better effort at localizing succeeding games]], thus there was something good
that came out of it[[note]]Widely-regarded PromotedFangirl Christina Rose, who worked on the story balances things out enough FanTranslation of ''Alpha Gaiden'', would be hired by giving all Bandai Namco at officially translating games for the Super Robot shows enough of International Era[[/note]].
* Was ''The Moon Dwellers''
a focus, proper ''Original Generation'' installment or a mere GaidenGame? Those who agree with none the former justify ''The Moon Dwellers'' explicitly states it is "Episode 4" in the prologue of them really being left out.the game[[note]]Prior installments also use an episodic naming format[[/note]] while the other camp cite the latter is the case due to game length, fewer included {{Crossover}} series and relatively barren plot, with many assuming Banpresto is saving the events of the concluding ''Alpha'' saga for a GrandFinale.

* While the UnexpectedCharacter reveals like ''Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}}'', [[Characters/MasouKishin Masaki and the Cybuster]], and the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Hi-Nu Gundam]] were well received, the fact that there were only four new debut series for ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsX'', with the rest being rehashes from previous titles, didn't sit well with fans, thus opinions were split on the choice of roster.
* The OriginalGeneration character designs for ''X'': for a franchise generally played by males, in contrast to the look of the characters from ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsV'', the protagonists of this game are remarkably {{Shoujo}}-ish, a design choice not entirely favored by opposing parties, while those in support of it applaud the franchise for [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_and_video_games embracing their female players]]. However, this seems to apply only to Iori Iolite; Amari Aquamarine, on the other hand, [[AvertedTrope is usually favored on both sides]] for "fitting in" the AdventureFriendlyWorld setting and {{Shoujo}}-ish design more.
* Once again, ''X'' uses the {{Alternate Universe}}s set-up of multiple Earths to ease up on writing a {{Crossover}}: some players were fine with it, but most agreed the roster distribution (Universal Century-exclusive Earth, a SuperRobot-only Earth, a ''Second Z''-esque Earth, Earth with only ''Anime/BuddyComplex'') was even blander than what ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsV'' used (though quite a few fans agree that the ''Second Z''-esque Earth's story featuring ''Daitarn 3'', ''Code Geass'', ''Gundam Wing'' and ''Aura Battler Dunbine'' had a lot of potential behind it story-wise, and were disappointed that it was reduced to PostScriptSeason).
* The addition of "[[NintendoHard Expert Mode]]" and whether it actually adds difficulty: while it does make enemy units stronger, it does away with mission-specific SR Point conditions; instead, SR Points are automatically earned so long as players clear the scenario, thus there were disagreements on whether Expert Mode truly turned the game harder or rendered it easier since some of these SR Point objectives were more difficult than simply beating the stage.
* Due to the SpotlightStealingCrossover treatment of ''Anime/MashinHeroWataruSeries'' in ''X'', plot enthusiasts claim the LighterAndSofter elements of the game is "too kiddy" compared to ''V'', which had an overall dramatic, serious narrative approach and was praised for it; in particular, ''Anime/CrossAnge'' was hit the hardest by the ''Wataru'' influence - while ''V'' downplayed the original anime's darker elements, ''X'' softened it further (without going overboard). Others defend that ''X'' had a satisfactory story with an appreciation for Wataru's StoryArc, and some of the detractors of ''Cross Ange'''s inclusion in ''V'' feel that ''X'' handled the series much better in comparison by somewhat lessening its importance, making the eponymous Ange made more believable and likeable, and averting the BrokenAesop of the original series, thus giving the ''X'' setting a far more uplifting conclusion; in other words, a LighterAndSofter approach doesn't necessarily harm the overall narrative.
* After time had passed, there's quite a bit of contestion on how ''Anime/BuddyComplex'' was handled in the story. Namely, [[spoiler:[[Anime/CrossAnge Embryo]] being the true BigBad of the story, and [[Anime/GundamWing Heero]] playing a major role as more or less the 4th protaganist]]. despite coming from two different platforms and released a year apart, some players began comparing ''UX'' against the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Third Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-hen]]'' (and its manga being LeftHanging subsequent {{Sequel}} for the latter) regarding which was the better handheld ''Super Robot Wars'' title. * When it was revealed that ''[[Toys/BBSenshiSangokuden SD Gundam: Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors]]'' received a spot on
the anime iteration not roster, long-time players were peeved, likely due to their opinion the "cute irises" effect on SuperDeformed Franchise/{{Gundam}} units makes them too cutesy, at least for the ''Super Robot Wars'' environment. Other fans, however, got annoyed there was even launching such an outburst since, until 2021, when ''30'' launched.''Videogame/SuperRobotWars64'', Gundam units (all of which were piloted) had the same irises SD units sported [[OlderThanYouThink in as early as]] ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars2'', not to mention the SuperDeformed concept and look to ''SD Gundam'' is what ''started'' the franchise in the first place.

* ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Second Super Robot Wars Z: Hakai-hen]]''
Same thing can be applied to the ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'' animations.
* ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Second Super Robot Wars Z: Saisei-hen]]''
* ''Third Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-hen''
* ''Third Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku-hen''

** The decision to have ''Wataru'' be very prominent in this installment usually splits the camp into two: One welcoming or at least understanding that they wanted to appease the Chinese audience that were big fans of the series and considering that this is a right step if Bandai Namco wanted to expand their borders as part of the International Era, and one being very livid that the show isn't to their taste since ''Wataru'' was pretty obscure outside of Japan and China.
